- How to use BirdNET to Identify Birds from their Song.
This smart phone application helps your bird identification from their calls.
In this demonstration how to use the app, the Carolina Wren song is identified. This is a great birding tool to have on your smart phone.

Hello! Leslie, the bird nerd, sent me. She is super and I really enjoy her sweet relationships with her birds. I look forward to learning about your birds too.
Welcome!
@Jack Miller Welcome!
I've identified several birds using this app... glad it's available.
So have I!
Thank you! My son & I hear some birds that we can’t ID & this will help!
Wonderful!
I'll have to check this out. We have a lot of intriguing bird sounds in the prairie as well as the forests nearby.
Thank you much for your suggestion.
You're welcome! Hope you enjoy it.
The Carolina wren is one of my favorite birds, both for its perky personality and its beautiful song. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to more episodes!
Thank you so much!
Identified Carolina wren here in upstate NY. Very pretty song.
The Carolina wren is one of my favorite birds. Thank you for your channel. I subscribed and look forward to more episodes!
Awesome! Thank you!
The makers of this app are charmingly excited about recording and analyzing birdsong. So excited that they seem to have forgotten a "delete recording" button. Or at least they've forgotten to say how deleting is done. Please, please add a delete button so I don't have bad recordings taking up space on my phone!
Also, I forgot it would need my location and told it no on that. When I realized it needed that, I went to settings, hoping I could change it, but, again, no. There's no way to add location once you've refused. I tried exiting and reentering, but it didn't ask again. So I've removed the application entirely and hope if I re-install it will ask again.
I just looked at this app, and seems like clicking on the saved recording there is a delete button at the bottom. You might also consider trying Merlin Sound ID. I made a video about that also. ua-cam.com/video/-5npm3LS8mY/v-deo.html
Those darn Carolina Wrens always wake me up in the morning. No such thing as sleeping in! 😆
They can be loud!
What a vocal little guy! Great video! Just saw a clip of yours on Lesley the bird nerds channel.
Thank you and welcome
Carolina Wren is one of the most common birds here in Florida. They are loud and fascinating to watch.
They are loud and bold for little birds!
This will be helpful when I’m on my walks and I hear and can’t recognize a new sound. Thanks.
You're welcome
This is cool. I hear a lot of bird song but often can't see the bird, so I'll give the app a try next time.
Hope it works well for you
Oh it's my little cutie, the Carolina wren! I had one that had such messed up feathers that I called it janky bird. And every time I saw it I made sure to put out just what it wanted. I have two others with good feathers, but janky bird is my favorite!
That's funny
Thank you .. Downloading the app now!
Awesome, since I made that video though, Merlin Bird ID added sound identification and I think I like that one better. I have another video about that here ua-cam.com/video/-5npm3LS8mY/v-deo.html
Is there anyway to find a previous recording? It seems I am unable to scroll backwards on the spectorgram to find a previous recording that I wanted to listen to again. The recording did not return a probable bird when it analyzed and therefore it is not showing up in my show observations tab. Now I cannot find the recording. Thanks for any help
Merlin now has sound id built into it which works nicer in my option. Check this video out about it. ua-cam.com/video/-5npm3LS8mY/v-deo.html
thank you so much, I will be giving this app a try!
Hope you like it!
Thanks for the app info! (Lesley sent me!✌🐥🐦🕊🦅)
Welcome!!
this is very useful for identifying
Glad it was helpful!
Use it a lot. Excellent, thanks
You're welcome!
Awesome tool! It has to be using or at least made using some neural network or machine learning type stuff, I'd imagine. I can't wait to give it a try!
You are right
That is really neat. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
How do you like song sleuth?
I haven't tried that one. Is that a phone app? Who makes it?
Made by Wildlife Acoustics Inc. with David Sibley. It is a phone app
@@Olympics2048 I will check it out. Thank you!
Thank-you!
You're welcome!
Why is your lovely channel called Birds Walking Down?
Years ago I wrote a song titled Walking Down, which to me was about someone's path / journey through life. And more recently, I developed a passion for birds. So I guess it means Birds Path through Life
Birds Walking Down, thanks! Clever and interesting! 😊
Thank so much Sr. ...
Most welcome
Thanks!
You're welcome
I always get a Grackle , Graling or Jackdaw. Today i got lucky and got a Yellow Belly Hummingbird, Bard Wood Pecker, Siccor Tail Flycatcher, Bewick Wren, Canes Sparrow, Loggerhead Shirike.
Nice
It's so much fun and I got barn swallows at the barn where my horse was boarding.
Have you tried the new Merlin App feature "Sound ID"? I like that one better than BirdNET
