Nana, I love all of your recipes. I always wanted to learn Lao, love that you mixed Eng/Lao together. I’ve actually learned few words by just watching your cooking show!!! Thanks
Kop jai lai lai Nana! My father use to make this for me as a kid. I miss him so much! Som pak galum is my comfort food but they're so hard to find pre-made in stores, so thank you!
The pig ears, feet, and other pig parts are added as a bonus by most Lao cooks, but it won't affect the taste of the pickled cabbage if you leave them out.
Thanks sis for taking the time out of your busy life to share and especially show us how to cook! Btw, whenever you have time, can you make the mustard version?
I have always used sticky rice for pickling vegetables, and have never thought of trying using jasmine rice. Perhaps another viewer who has tried using jasmine rice will be able to answer this question for you.
Pig ears are really quite the interesting experience of textures. Be brave and give it a try! If you do not like those combinations of textures, just pick them out and give them to your neighbor who will appreciate them. the resulting vegetable is going to be amazingly delicious.
Nana I LOVE your recipes! I remember my grandma made this which is my favorite but she also made another but only using green onions! I would like to shock my family because they all go crazy when my grandma used to make Som green onions, is it the same process as this Som? Also can I do half cabbage and half green onions?
Oh I believe you, believe me I do. Pigs ears were one of my favorites but due to health risks I had to place that ingredient, among others, on that list that I can no longer consume. :(
Sabai dee Nana. Love your cooking, I also love pickled cabbage with cow muscle feet skin can you show or demonstrate how to made it? Is it just make as the same as you made here with Pork ear? Thank You.

jerrynorasing, I have never seen people put whole garlic in "som pak galum." I have seen pickled garlic on its own (gatiem dong).
