More of a performance, deep and thoughtful, of a deep and thoughtful poem, than a reading, just great. Definitely will look for more readings by Glover.
Poor death! Thou are slave to ... desperate men and dost with poison, war or sickness dwell - fresh view to turn the tables on Death. Very nice job, scansion, cadence.
Stupenda lettura, bellissima voce. Non conoscevo questo attore,ma la sua maniera di leggere poesie è superiore a quelli che vengono di solito lodati, Gielguld o la ridicola voce chioccia di Richard Burton
I have not heard a single person recite it correct. He mocks and teases death. Like youd say to someone whos pathetic and pretends to be strong. Death be not proud! Its not a dark poem...but a mocking fun poem with dark humor.
Absolutely wonderful! From the heart and to the heart.
Great delivery of a powerful and beautiful sonnet!
Thanks for this video! I've listened to it at least a dozen times in an effort to memorize the poem... it's a great recitation.
10 YEARS AGO.... WOW.. where are you now in life?
how did the memorizing go?
@@rae4007 swimmingly! I still remember it today
@@whisper432 wow good to see it stuck with you!
I enjoy listening to this poem read by Julian Glover. I like his voice quality and cadence.

Nicely done, with wonderful dramatic pauses and inflections of the voice.

@simulachra John Donne was born in London in 1572. It's a British poem.

I've always loved that about this poem it's one of the only poems I've studied which doesn't show death as something to be feared
