This is hands down my most favorite ps1 game. The unique trap setting mechanic, the branching storyline implemented into the gameplay and the old school graphic design were jist perfect for me
My first Deception game. I've got so much nostalgia for this game. I just wish more people were aware and would give them a try. It's a series you never really see on hidden gems or underrated lists. It's one you have to specifically seek out.

Dropping by to say I always adored her outfit and always hated the word "Timenoid"
I'm also reminded why even though I really liked this game I've always shied away from replaying it, and that's down to feeling downright awful about Millennia's story, like it's just so goddamn depressing.
Deception 1 had some bummer stories from the people you killed, but the overall concept of sacrificing people to exalt The Devil has this sort of inherent camp value for me that softened the blow, but for Kagero? Just leaves me feeling down in the dumps. I get the same reaction from the Fatal Frame stories, they don't all end depressingly but the sadness of them and this hit me really hard.
I kinda wonder if the translators intentionally started calling them TMDs almost instantly because it sounds easier to take serious than "Timenoid." It almost sounds like a military term in the way it typically gets used in the midst of talks of politics and betrayals.
And yeah, Deception 1 had some more buffers to taking the character writing seriously. Kagero doesn't pull any punches at all, and it ends up being the much darker story because of it.
I can understand Timeoid but TimeNOID just makes me think of that Dominos Pizza mascot.

All the trilogy in PS1 is so good, but Kagero is the best one for me, i found this game in my childhood and this game give me a terror, no only me but all my friends than played too. I remember that time i have so many nightmare with this game. Today i consider one of my favorite games of PS1, i know than game is a strategic game, but the dark theme in the game is so been mixed. I think the poligonal graphics of PS1 make the game more creepy but, the OST, the history, all os this is so dark and GOOD, the game have a awesome atmosphere. I love the Deception III, but the game is more "light" in his theme than Kagero.
Just discovered this series yesterday, and it's freaking awesome and beautiful for its time. I think i'm going to buy some of those games soon for my PS1 and maybe PS4 because i found out that there was Deception IV on it.
Finally! I've been looking for this game for ages but couldn't remember its name, or much else besides some vague memories of a girl using traps. Glad to have stumbled onto this whilst watching the backlog :]

The essence of this game is how to continue combos and earn a lot of money in one stage. The satisfaction of defeating a strong enemy with one combo or continuing 10 or more combos is something you can never experience in other games. Vases, bouncing floors, and popping walls always help you earn a lot of money.
You deserve more subscribers.
I think I was like 11 when this came out and I loved it. None of my friends had ever heard of it though, even now. Shame.
I played this game when I was about 12 year old and it scared the shit out me. I gotta play it again cause it still looks mindblowing
I too, in my childhood this game become my nightmare, the graphics, soundrack and the scream. LOL hard times, but today i say this is the one best games of Ps1.
Same ahahaha I always played with my sis and we loved but were so scared and had to interrupt many times🥲 at night I still have nightmares ahaha
It's great, but the tank controls make it hard at times. I tryed going back from 4 to 2 and had to get use to the movement again lol.
Deception 3 remains my favorite. Really enjoying your video series on Deception and eagerly await the next one.
Holy cow this takes me back. It's SO different to see in colour, I played a pirated copy in the UK as a kid therefore it was black and white. Felt a lot more gothic/medieval but not as in depth as it is in color. Such a cool game, I've never forgotten it
I remember loving this game as a kid!! The only gripe I had was that the back of the box said multiplayer and i could never figure out how to get to it!

This Kagero Deception II game has 4 endings and how to witness each of them:
1. Ending 1 with Draconia: Kill everyone in Chapter 17 to prevent the Red Blood from finding the Timenoid grail and also kill absolutely every enemy invading the maps in the game.
2. Ending 2 with Yocal: Let at least one person escape alive after finding the Timenoid grail in Chapter 17 then kill Keith later on while playing Chapter 24.
3. Ending 3 with Keith: Let at least one person escape alive after finding the Timenoid grail in Chapter 17 then answer Yes to agree to escape with Keith in Chapter 24 after Keith beats you until your health is at the level where you should take the Magic Loon.
4. Ending 4 with King Eclypse: Kill everyone in Chapter 17 to prevent the Red Blood from finding the Timenoid grail but let at least one enemy escape in any chapters (which would disqualify the 100-kill ending).
I love this trilogy (Never played Trapt or D4 BT/TNP, since I got them super late in my life). My favourite was the 3rd, but This one was incredible. When they released Orcs Must Die 1 I was really happy to see the inspiration they used as fundation. Great review!

I replayed this game relentlessly for different endings. Finally, I got the one where Millenia became a TMD herself and I was satisfied.
Ending 1 is if Millennia prevents the grail from being discovered and kills absolutely everyone who invade the maps with no escape (ending with Devil).
Ending 2 is if Millennia allows the grail to be discovered and kills Keith in Chapter 24 later on (ending with Yocal).
Ending 3 is if Millennia allows the grail to be discovered and intends to escape with Keith in Chapter 24 after being damaged by Keith until the life bar reach 1/4 (ending with Keith)
Ending 4 is if Millennia prevents the grail from being discovered and let someone escape (such as Rain/Gerald etc) (ending with King Eclypse).

@@CicoinTokyo777 honestly i don’t remember which route gets you there. But I do know it’s supposed to be one of the earlier endings and it took me a year to figure it out. Mainly because I had no idea it existed. She basically meets draconia which is like the devil or their deity they worship. he tells her she’s killed everyone and has now earned herself a spot serving him forever because she sucks for murdering all the TMD. This sequence comes on where she started going by on the screen faster and faster until she becomes light blue skinned and a TMD. One of my favorite endings.

I actually started with this one in the series. I still need to get through 3 and 1. I've played 4 though. 1 is really different from this one and 4(Blood Ties and Nightmare Princess, they are essentially the same game except one has a bit more stuff to it) in my opinion it doesn't give that grim feeling like this game does. 4 almost feels cartoony compared to this game. It doesn't have the atmosphere that 2 does. I've played this game so many times. Even got the Suezo trap you can get if you complete all the endings in the game. Which people have pointed out that Millennia is probably Astarte from the first game. Because if you put Astarte as your name in the beginning you get bonus trap ark.
Deception 2 is a good game and the first in the series to introduce many things that differentiate the sequels from the first game: pretty girl as a player character, third person view and the ability to string traps into combos, with bigger and more elaborate combos rewarding the player with more of the game currency. But personally, I feel like the game failed to make itself as replayable as its several endings and story paths could make you think it is. Want to hear the terrible and spoilerish truth? Whatever you do, and whatever story path you end up on, you will always fight the same enemies, just sometimes in different order and in different locations. It doesn't matter if the heroine remains a good puppet for the blue people or not, they will find a reason to try to kill her either way and their king will blame her for that. It doesn't matter if the heroine spares the cowardly but power-hungry merchant in one mission or not. If she doesn't, his adopted kids will come to kill her in revenge. If she does, he will return with those same kids to kill her. And so on and so forth. Maybe those are console and game limitations but I think its replayability could be immensely improved if the devs could make more enemies (they could have the same classes already in the game but with different colors and character motivations) and make it so that some enemies would fight the player only if he makes a certain decision or on a certain story path.

I loved this game as a kid. I was hooked. I remember how dark and wrong it felt to murder these people, so I tried to play as pacifist as possible. It was somehow more gut-wrenching.
Geizer rushing you in the speed of light is the true horror of this game
fuck man hahaha this is true, i take so much jump scare because of this. And you get affliction when you turn back to them and you known that he can dash in your back. Is a horror sensation.

Good ol goatbone and deadmoon. My friends and me use to laugh so hard at some of their names. Zealots were the worse for me. Such a pain in the ass.
I thought deadmoon was such a rad name. I was also around 10 years old so take from that what you will.

Duckstation or Mednafen as the emulator, I'd suggest Duckstation for ease of use, Mednafen's the more accurate but harder to get going with. And an ISO file. I'd suggest looking up CDRomance for that.
I always lost interest in these game because of the chapter to chapter structure but wasn't the first game the one where you could capture invaders? I remember one of them seeing a guide or secrets and something about capturing rare dungeon invaders like aliens lol.
