Hi, I was shopping for an optic for my new AR and saw your video. Based on it I decided to buy the ACOG. Short story is I love it ! Thanks for putting out info I can use and understand.
I love it, and in all actuality it doesn't matter what you use, if you use it frequently enough and aren't switching around often you will see increase in performance.
Just recently made the decision to switch from lpvo back to an Acog after using the razor 1-6x for about 2 years. Ordered my kram for it today. Nice video man!
I guess my question is why? Why switch back to the acog? I never shoot with an acog before. I just ordered my acog yesterday. As you can tell I’m new to shooting with optics.
@@Free_entertainment401 honestly, I like the simplicity and wanted to shed the extra weight. I had a Steiner 1x4 lpvo before I got the vortex and always felt the 4x on that optic was great for what I did (coyote hunting on property with lots of trees and some open space). I guess for me the decision was very much dependent on the specific role for the rifle. I don’t do any crazy courses of fire with the rifle like timed drills and up close shooting. It’s usually from a fixed position or somewhere where I know the distance walking the property. Sorry, that’s a lot of unnecessary info but basically, situation dictated on why I went back to an ACOG. It’s solid, robust and I didn’t myself using 1x hardly ever. That being said, I do have an Aimpoint Acro P1 in a 45 degree mount to supplement.
If you have a rmr, eye relief shouldn't be an issue. You would be using the ACOG for distance shooting which to me would require you to be closer to your reticle.
The problem with me is I never liked having the optic so far back. I like having a ntch approach to shooting and with that in mind, the acog never quite fit me. The optic that I felt best fit me would be the elcan. The eye relief is still somewhat horrible but the difference is enough to where I can mount it to about the #17 slot on the pic rail and have enough room for a buis in the back under it. I feel with this placement I can go with my ntch approach, have the right stock length, and hit things accurately. Shooting has been very comfortable.
Ditched my LVPO for an Acog a couple years ago on my 16” do all. Ran it factory mount for a bit but did find some slow down for close range targets. Mounted an RMR on top, and so far I’m really liking factory height because I can cant the rifle like an offset, and use my non dominant eye for the dot, or roll more chin weld and heads up as you put it. I never shoot unsuppressed, so LVPO weight was just too heavy with a can. I’ll probably get a lighter mount for the Acog, but weight is my main reason I prefer it.
Weight even with factory mounts, for what the optic gives you, is a fair trade off. I have always used an ACOG since I have began shooting AR15's. So for me, just because of my time behind the optic, and training to do so, I find that I can still use the "BDC" quickly to engage close range, BUTTTTT the top dot makes it infinitely faster, if you train.
Oh man nice! It gets some hate, but so does everything. I mean for versatility, I just believe it’s a good go to option. Solid, tested, proven and you can make it better. Hope you enjoy man!
That's the number one reason I chose ACOG for this GPR set up. Rounds behind it, comfortability, durability and the list goes on. Why change it up, when the old saying goes "If broke it ain't, fix it don't" or whatever they say.
Good video man! I actually went from and lpvo to an ACOG with a piggyback mount back to an LPVO. 😂 I’ve been issued one for 6 years and I was always like oh if it’s good enough for the mil it’s good enough for me. That eye relief is just too unimpressive for me. The optic is a tank! I’ve had students with acogs from 2010 still running just fine! I just think for the money and the capability you can find something better. Be easy brother
How far back does the kram space bring back the acog? So how many inches it will drop back compared to stock the stock mount? I consider ordering one But i live in germany and its a big hassle.
Not sure exactly. It could move it back a couple of inches enough to only require a chin weld, keeping you from having to goose neck a lot into the rifle.
@@zach7381 It would be a dream if you could take a fast measurement for me. Currently im using a relatively cheap Picatinny cantiliver , wich i want to get rid of. It drops back my PA 5x Prism (Acog Footprint) about 4cm (1,5") wich works perfect for me, but its just a cheap Amazon mount wich also build a littlebit to high.
@@mhhh7721 Dependent completely on where you mount the KRAM mount is can bring it back roughly three inches.... but again, you can mount that anywhere on the pic rail
So there’s a handful of ways. If you have a vice though or sandbags to place the rifle in place and not move- sandbag it in. Sight in on target with the primary sighting device, then reference the red dot and adjust to “area” the primary device is. “Slaving the optic” is what this is called. That’ll put you on paper, then finish the zero on paper and ensure grouping.
Acogs give you a half pound to a poundof weight savings over most LPVOS on the market, and are more rugged than any LPVO available besides maybe the VCOG Another reason to piggyback instead of cant your RMR is to still be able to both short stock your rifle and run it off of either shoulder
Great video. How does the 9.0 work with your glasses. I recently got my first prescription set and I’ve found the standard Acog mount is way to low. I’m thinking about getting the 9.0 but I can’t tell if it’s going to be to high. Lol
I do not find it too high. The only time I EVER have an issue with obtaining solid sight picture without paralax is if I have to get into an incredibly weird position where I can't get a solid base straight behind the optic.
How do you like the holosun? I have an older TA31 with the Doctor sight on top. Never had any problems, but I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the Holosun to go along with he pistol dots.
Wanted to get back into one but with their prices compared to many lpvo options it’s just a no brainer for me to go lpvo. Acogs may not be dead per say, but it seems like it’s becoming the .308 of optics.
The market gets flooded occasionally with surplus acogs that drop. Those are affordable. But I’d argue it depends on the quality of lpvo you’re getting. But I do agree, they are pricy. No doubt about that. At the end of the day- it’s what you want to gain out of your equipment. Can’t go wrong with a good lpvo, acog or dot. Just depends on the purpose design behind your setup! Thanks for watching man!
I do not use any back up iron sights. My "backup" in this case would be my dot. It is the same mentality with running an optic and BUIS, to have two sighting systems in case one drops. Technology is vastly advanced with optics, especially red dots, I would be more worried about my rifle going down, before either of my sighting devices.
This is the highest option available. Not sure off of the top of my head of the specs. Weapons outfitters has three different options for height, you should definitely check it out!

Man that is awesome! Thanks for letting me know!
Being a fellow crayon eater myself I always been an avid ACOG/RCO user. I use them for my DPMS AR15 and QD10 with excellent results.

I have the 4X ACOG w/ green triangle RMR. Love it!
Sick man!
Multiple JTAC classes and this is the first I find out you are El Gingero! This a secret UA-cam identity?
Shhhhh
It's 2022 and the acog is still my favorite combat sight, I still like ot better than my trijicon credo or any other combat optic!
If it works it works. Doesn’t mean it’s for everyone, but hey I sure dig it
I like the mount and how the optics are set on your rifle.
Thanks man! Appreciate ya taking the time to watch

Badass set up! What's your KRAM riser height? 5.5, 7.0 or 9.0 ?
Awesome shooting and advice. Subscribed & Semper Fi brother.
Semper Fi!
Acog is by far best universal optic for your rifle. Pair with some canted magpul sights and you're gold
Love the ACOG is an absolute tank, but that eye relief is abysmal
Thanks for the info!

What company makes those Holosun Acog mounts
What distance did you zero the piggyback red dot? It was high using the trijicon mount. Looks awfully high with the "elevated" acog.
I would recommend a 100 yard zero, on the top mount dot
Have you ever had the tritium start to fade?
Can you talk about how the flip up rear site is integrated into this set up? Is it even possible?

Just the regular Trijicon RMR mount for the acog

Are you using a 7.0 or 9.0 kram?
