After watching your video I decided to try it on mine. But I am having trouble getting the cases to separate. Do you have any tips to getting it to split apart?
Man, I remember that although it's been about 10yrs. It was a struggle but be careful not to damage the seating surface. I don't remember anything specific but having an issue with the lowest center bolt. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Did you ever find out what the problem was? I was just about to order the chain for mine until I saw your update. It's a snapping/clanking noise as I accelerate. Thanks for the video it is very helpful if I do need to change the chain.
JessiK Snapping/clanking noise in w163 may be caused from two things: 1) planetary carrier in the transfer case (in the movie it can be seen just after the chain); 2) plastic bushers in the torsion bars (OEM parts usually brake very fast, I installed reinforced ones from ebay).
Where did you get that chain because I just called Diller and they said there is no chain. Would you have a part number of that chain or you bought it from other sources other than Diller?
First let me say, I'm no Mercedes guru. Also, I don't know anything about the GL 450 but if it has all wheel drive I would imagine there probably set-up the same. Good luck.

@@playbig22 I finally got it off this morning, but The replacement chain is the wrong one.
I ran into the exact same problem 😂😂😂. It was really really tight 😢
Yes, I did finally find the source of my clunk noise issue. As it turns out, the motor mount on the driver side had gone bad.
God Bless you for this video. thank you.
You are welcome, good luck with your projects
Great video, thank you so much!
No problem, I'm glad the video was helpful

What if you remove the chain, and drive the car as rear wheel drive?
would that be possible?
That may work, I am sure you would get lights on the dash that won't go out if it does work
Just did it, you have to remove the rear shaft's Coupling Flange with a 30MM socket.

It's been a few years but it was off of Amazon or eBay for around $200.
@@playbig22 thanks I found it
can you do the same process on a GL 450?

...please excuse....not" there" should be "they're"
