The shot of Reachy giving out the gift bag, reminded me of all those scenes in movies and games where a robot gets torn in half, impaled on a pole and reactivates when the protagonist gets close to him.
Great video. I’m new to VR and it’s fantastic to see the VR community and UA-cam reviewers coming together. Subscribed to both your channels, keep up the good work guys 👍🏻.
Imagine 30-50 years from now people being able to work from home with this technology Or for military or police use. They could have people controling these robots remotely and not be risking their life.
This could seriously be a huge thing in our future.. think about the upgrades and custom work people could do.. big hardware tech companies behind em.. be sick!!! Would need some hard regualtion maybe.. also maybe have a rule that they can not become mobile in anyway lol... gotta stick em on some kind of special mechanical track or somethin for battle. Haha, just put too much thought into this. Happy 420!
do u know about the movie Surrogates a lot of people/companies have been trying to do it ...but it should get much more funding than what it's getting now
I remember when they started construction on the Star Wars section of Disneyland they were talking about working on animatronics that could be controlled using VR remotely to create characters that could interact with guests. I wonder how their efforts are going.
this is really amazing for work environments that are dangerous or extremely straining on the body I can even see amazon having something like this at some point
Stuff like this could have a serious impact for stuff like jobs where people need to train in hazardous conditions. Instead of facing the dangers they could use burner robots and take control of them remotely using a VR system
Never clicked so fast! Love Virtual Reality Oasis, and missing the F Reality podcast already. But I hope you guys are really enjoying your break - you all totally deserve it!

This reminds me of the episode of Big Bang Theory when Sheldon slapped together a robot to take his place in day to day life. If he had replaced himself with Reachy, his friends and coworkers probably wouldn't have wanted him back.
I wrote a science-fiction story about this concept when I was in middle school in the 80’s. My story took place well into the future and this remote technology was perfected to where the user would enter a tank full of gel that acted as full movement detection to control the robot. I called them SDC’s “Sensory Duplication Cyborgs” lol. I still don’t know if that’s a truly accurate name. But in my story, the applications were to to send them into deep space. It allowed for the years of travel and survival in unsurvivable conditions for humans. Basically you could experience walking on Mars from a lab here on earth remotely, with no risk of human life. But then my story was about the military applications, and how it went bad. The twist at the end was that they kidnapped the bad guy by drugging him, and they replaced him in his bed with a remote cyborg, without him knowing. Ah yes, wonderful 80’s sci-if fantasies! Haha.
The only problem with the Mars part is that the signal to and from the robot over there to a person on Earth would take about 3 minutes to transmit. That’s a lot of latency. Imaging if your video game character took three minutes to respond to your controller input.
People said that robots would take are jobs but we can use them for are jobs. I feel like if they do a little more work we’re it’s more clear in the vr headset and added weels also not to make it shake. This would work really well
Awesomely scary where this VR life is heading, im so glad I chimed in and got the quest 2, seams to he the one that is going places at the min. Thanks Mike, always a fun watch 👍🏻👍🏻
A couple strong use cases I thought of. 1) remote doctors. Eg have one in major remote locations like in Antarctica or the space station. That way if there is a major emergency, perhaps you could remote in a skilled surgeon (given 5 finger control, precision haptic systems and good communications). 2) Extreme danger work environments. Add a Segway type movement system, and they could be used in areas like 100% H2S environments or modify it and use it for underwater welding and such. That way we can still fully utilize the skills of skilled workers without risking their lives.
This is amazing! This is why I always say VR/AR is the future! Not only will this technology be incredible for the medical, law enforcement, military, etc. fields, but imagine having this tech during another pandemic. This could allow essential workers to stay safer and stifle the spread of the virus. This technology is just incredible.
Remote cooking service, you get the ingredients and then pay for someone to connect to your bot and cook (would need better latency, depth perception, and fingers on hands, so it would have to be a thing to look into in the future, though could be done with bad latency with practice).
I noticed at making the sandwich part that it was a little bit laggy and jittery. This might be just because you are so far away and remotely accessing it. But maybe it's because it's trying to find a way to position itself or it's hand to look natural.
Hello Mike you probably won't se or read this but I have an oculus quest 2 on it's way to my house. I've been saving up money for it for like 2 years now and I am so happy. I watch so many of your videos w/o the the oculus quest 2 and I think it's really helpful. Thank you for making me happy and making so many and so good videos.
banging idea oasis ... this is how we can teach a bot to do everything .. just think of having such a bot at home .. cook anything you want for .. so fancy a 5 star meal .. bang you got .. want a newhouse .. bang it builds one for you .. from 1000's of design .. this is what every human needs .. they could grow food for you .. they could even spend time planting trees and it endless one could be done :O)
Id have it do my dishes lol.... I'd most likely feel bad for it at times and find myself going out of my way to make sure he/she is happy haha. I imagine alot of people would feel this when human like robots eventually become a reality in our home. Pretty awesome stuff.. You just walked on the VR/AR moon!... lol nice!
reminds me of that one movie with VR controlled Robots building a skyscraper via rails and using welding torches and various tools and when one broke down or an accident happened no one was hurt and no sapient robots were sacrificed either as they were essentially puppets
It seems a bit laggy, but it's an awsome tech experiment done by the company !! i understand it's verry early tech and i know it's still been working, I'm so impressed by that
i would love to get something like this to talk to family with the vr application as it means we can say hello and interact with them while not being there but its to early for us to be getting these kind of robots due to their pricetag tho i love what their doing and love to see future developement i dont see myself buying one rightnow
This could be amazing for remote chefs, like if you want to invite a korean chef for a special event, you could let them connect via VR to make the special meals virtually
I normally don't comment on anything, but I think Reachy would make for an excellent and immersive remotely operated vehicle for exploring the surfaces of planets that don't yet have a settlement on the surface, but do have space stations orbiting said body.

hi
In 10 years:
“I can’t come in to work, there’s too much snow on the road” will be responded with
Boss: “Stop making excuses and get your VR on”
Job Simulator
😮
with stuff like virtual desktop or just those vr workstations apps i can bet it can be responded with even now
I bet that’s gonna be in the future
Lol 😂 so many people do this in winter time it’s hilarious. It’ll totally be non excusable if this becomes common one day for jobs.
Imagine 30-50 years from now people being able to work from home with this technology Or for military or police use. They could have people controling these robots remotely and not be risking their life.
if u ask me it should be doable ...meaning offer a great experience ...in less than 10 or 15 years.... if it gets a lot of funding
You should check out Espire 1: VR Operative. It's a sci-fi stealth game centered around controlling a military telepresence stealth robot.
@@ericbazinga oh yeah. I've played it. It's super fun.
They already use this technology with bomb disposal robots in the military and with police.
Like the movie Surrogates with Bruce Willis.
In the future we are gonna have giant versions of these and the construction workers are just gonna be playing with legos in vr
Thats kinda a great idea instead of using ai
