Black-necked cranes in Bhutan

  • The Bhutanese consider the globally threatened black-necked cranes as holy messengers and heavenly birds. They're said to circle Gangtey Monastery three times when they arrive from Tibet in late Oct, and another three times before they return in mid-Feb.
