    mike your the best. your the only person on youtube who's rig is basically the same as mines. I received my asi plus today and will be testing it out soon using your vids as a guide.

    Mike, I went ahead and got a StarSense auto align for my 70s C8 on an Evo mount. Tried it last night in very cloudy conditions and was impressed with its efforts. It was looking everywhere but I had to give up in the end. Looks nicer tonight.
    Your vids have been inspirational. Thanks!!
    How do you transition to the ASI/iPad after the Starsense align? How does the ASI know how the scope is aligned?
    I was using my iPad to do the Starsense align - when that is done, do I just plug in the ASI Air to the HC Port or do I have to use the HC to control the align?

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 5 місяців тому

      You can plug it in from the get go. I get into ASI Air once the mount is aligned 👍

    mike where you get that batinov mask with the pegs that fit on top of the dew shield?

      Farpoint astro, it's this one: farpointastro.com/products/farpoint-bahtinov-mask-for-telescopes-from-8-5-to-10-5?_kx=ZWlkvDwOrSf34GSUwrOCdONnVFJKjWFO6DBU-aq0wBM%3D.RmjGsX

    Neat! What is the app you are showing the images on? Is *it* doing the stacking in real time or just showing the results. I just acquired a C9.25 with Hyperstar on an EQ6. I was buying the C9.25 with it’s (broken) Evo mount and the hyperstar & some older imaging stuff was thrown in. Planning to put my old C8 on the Evo for visual but this EAA stuff looks cool! Sub.

      Hey there, it's the ASI Air app and it's stacking in real time but it has to send the images over 5Ghz WiFi to the tablet, so "almost" real time. Your 9.25 will be brilliant for this use case and it'll be around 500mm instead of 390mm.

    Is there a way to control the celestron mount with the asi mini through the ipad?

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 8 місяців тому +3

      Yes absolutely. For the purposes of this video I didn’t add that complexity, but you can connect a USB cable from the Mini to the StarSense hand controller. Once roughly aligned, it’ll “drive” via a quick plate solve since it has got the camera for reference. The Air app has a full catalog of objects in there, at least as many as the Celestron hand controller has.

      @@MikeLikesChannelso the asi air uses the same camera you use for imaging to plate solve instead of a seperate guide camera?

    So do I understand that you are not using the Celestone Evo Wi-Fi? Do you plug the Evo mount into the ASI air?

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 8 місяців тому

      That’s correct. I kept that out of this video to simplify it for beginners, but a USB A - Mini USB cable from ASI Air to the port on the hand controller allows for the ASI Air to drive the mount. First you do a basic Starsense align, then the ASI Air can drive from there and gives you a full sky map to choose from whatever objects are up.

    • @randallpatrickc
      @randallpatrickc 8 місяців тому +1

      @@MikeLikesChannel thanks - I see there is a little USB socket on the bottom of the controller. I guess that’s what it is. I like this in that it would presumably allow me to use the better Wi-Fi on the ASI air instead of the flaky Wifi on this early Evo. Would you recommend any particular type of ASI air? I also have a MacBook and iPad. I noticed that trying to use the iPad and SkySafari with the onboard wifi was hopeless. Was on the point of giving up on that. Do you happen to know if the ASI would work with an EQ6-R mount? Buying the Evo & 9.25 used, it came with this enormous white mount! I had to put it on a dolly even to move it out into the yard!
      Highly impressed with what you are achieving considering your neighborhood lights! Great job and encouraging EAA vid.

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 8 місяців тому

      I’m not certain if ASI Airs work with that particular mount but I’d *assume so*. For simple EAA, the Mini does just fine, but some people supersize to a Pro. I won’t be connecting Ethernet to mine nor lots of accessories (just mount and camera), so no real need.

      I’m back! Still waiting on Celestron to mend and return my Evo mount. Have the Hyperstar and a C9.25. I note this time you are on an iPad not MacBook. Why is that? I have an older MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro. What should I use?

  • @randallpatrickc
    @randallpatrickc 8 місяців тому

    How do you cover the front of the telescope with the hyperstar in place? See you then. Thanks.

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 8 місяців тому +1

      With the dew shield in place, it includes a dust cap and the hard metal shield protects the hyperstar =)

    mike how are you getting power to work from your evolution mount to your asi air? my evolution mount wont turn on my asi plus.

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 7 місяців тому

      I have not tested it with an ASI Plus but it works great on the Mini. Does it deliver power to something like your smartphone?

    • @poisonpen26
      @poisonpen26 7 місяців тому

      yes I do get power when I connect my cellphone but nothing works when I connect that same usb c wire to my asi plus pc port. The only way I get my asi plus powered on is through the 12 volt jack. Im wondering if the plus doesnt allow for that feature. I tried doing this with the hand controller not plugged in though so im gonna try again later on with the hand controller plugged in to see if it makes a difference.

    I’m guessing the StarSense doesn’t talk to the ASI Air? And, I have a floppy dew shield - does the mask have to be centered on the OTA?

    • @MikeLikesChannel
      @MikeLikesChannel 7 місяців тому

      Starsense does not talk to the ASI air, correct. You can use the mask on a floppy dew shield, depending on how floppy it is… if it’s sufficiently rigid, the shield hardly weighs anything and you’ll only use it for 2-3 minutes anyway.
