IME once you learn the playstyle of the f5c it's still one of the best in its tier still in recent patches, outturns anything at the right speed other than a 21 and the energy retention at .85+ mach is borderline goofy. the missiles are trash, sure, but with air target ammo it's a beast. My favorite way to use the missiles is chasing a plane of similar speed, if the enemy doesn't play their cards right and trys to turn away from your missile the speed retention and maneuverability of the f5 let's you catch up and get a broad side shot very easily. it dominates a10's and su 25's since they're so slow, and even against mig 21's a well played rate fight will drop their speed enough to let you turn back on top of them because you just hold speed so well. a mig23 or f104 will outrun you or chase you down 9 times out of 10, but those planes simply cannot follow you through any hard turn. It took some time for me to learn as when I originally bought the plane a couple years back I did so with zero jet experience (lame, I know), but now after knowing the plane its a consistent 2-3 kills a game often with some assists. I would still highly recommend it for grinding the US tree, but be warned if you are new to jets it may take a while to get into the flow. I definitely advise against base bombing for grinding though as with a full loadout this thing is essentially a flying brick and you likely wont even make it to an enemy base before a friendly tornado takes them all out. At 10.7 it's in my opinion a better choice than the f4s and f20a. the f4s may be a quicker grinding plane with it's ground target abilities, but the f5c gameplay is just incredibly fun and feels almost unfair.
ngl i looked at this vid to see if playstyle changed i have spent a lot of time recently at 11.3-12.7 in ussr and swapping back to my old f5c has been so painful all that i remember is that f5c u need to keep at above .95 mach and use guns only f4 is kinda appealing tho bc it has half decent missiles
no, cuz yes the plane has incredible energy retention but usually u wont get in a dogfight cuz u get locked by some random radar missile from 20 km away. On top of that the missiles have like 10G and maybe 3km range while every single enemy u go against has 30G and 7.5km range. So its good if you are an experienced pilot otherwise idonno
