    I haven't been in years, but Lake Eerie used to be about the best spot ever if you wanted big Walleye...a friend of mine's uncle runs a reputable charter business, me and my grandpa went out with him one day, got a bunch of Walleye, someone else with us got a 9 lb rainbow, and another guy got a 7 lb brown...the biggest eye of the day though was over 18 lbs, and a young kid caught it, I got a 14.86 Lb, another kid got a 17 lb...and lots in the 7-12lb range. I thought it was an amazing day...but when we got back, my friend's uncle, the charter guide, says something along the lines of, "Sorry for the slow day fellas...here's half your money back...I promise it'll be better next time" and gives everyone half their money back. I think there was 4 of us on charter, and we kept our limit, and threw lots back too. And also got those bonus trout. He was also saying during certain times of the year, if you flyover in a helicopter, you can see dark spots on the water that are literally "schools" of walleye. This was all many years ago though...have no clue what it's like now there.

      That experience kind of ruined Walleye fishing for me...most of the ones I catch now are like 1lb in the local river, and it's like, "How is this even the same species lol" Got a few OK ones over the years, but nothing like that day on Lake Eerie. Maybe time to think about another trip!

      Aaron Henderson it's still awesome, but haven't seen or heard of any 18lbs + walleye come out recently...also haven't been trolling the web to see if anyone's caught them that big. Anything that big take a picture or two, take your measurements and toss her back!

      They dont care about the walleye because the salmon fishery is the $$. All those salmon fingerlings need to run the walleye gauntlet to get back to the ocean. Salmon protein is what grows them so big.

    Yes! Great video. I love BIG river Walleye!! Great catch man! Hey, it didn't sound like you were too hip to the Flicker Minnow. Let me tell you, the Flicker Minnow and Flicker Shad are two of the best lure designs I've ever used. It's not uncommon that I will fish with one of those baits ALL DAY LONG, and catch every species of fish in the lake, or river. NO KIDDING! These baits are the bomb!! If you ever troll, theses are the baits! Use the minnow for colder water and switch to the shad baits when the water gets mid 60's. I have a collection of worn out Flicker shads/minnows from catching SO many fish on them. EVERYTHING bites these baits! Love the show. I have turned on all of my fishing buddies to your channel!!! Keep on Rockin!

    It's not that they don't care about the Walleye fishery, it's that WDFW is focused on Salmon and Steelhead recovery in the Columbia Watershed. Walleye are an invasive species in the Columbia, and are treated accordingly. What's interesting is that studies have shown that predation by smallmouth bass and walleye on salmonid smolts is actually pretty minimal...so hypothetically, the 2 fisheries might be able to coexist. Interesting topic for sure!

    It's the same story down here in Tennessee, I live less than 5 minutes from where the world record was caught (Old Hickory Lake). Nobody seriously targets them down here, we catch them fairly regularly but it is looked upon as bycatch while we are targeting smallmouth on the river, it's not uncommon to land one in the 10-15 lb range in the low light hours.

    The thing you got to remember is that anytime fish are mostly caught and released their population will grow to very large numbers. Especially when there is ample food and structure for them to survive. I have fished Oregon and Washington many times. The Walleye eat tons of Salmon smolts and that is where the northwest G&P focuses their money. You cant believe how passionate the folks out there are about their salmon fishing. The walleye is a threat to their native fish. I doubt they want to eliminate the walleye, but they are getting overpopulated and are tilting the balance on the Salmon fisheries. Seems crazy to some, but that's the wildlife climate out there. I'm from Nebraska and those walleye out there in Oregon and Washington are a dream destination. Its truly magical. Its a bucket list destination for any hard core walleye fisherman. The next world record walleye WILL come from that river!

    I'm from Washington and I have to admit, I didn't even know we had walleye in the state, I thought that was more of a mid-west fish. As others have said, the no-limit thing is probably an attempt to reduce the impact another non-native predator fish has on the native steelhead population. Lots of fisheries in the PNW have almost completely lost their native populations when other fish move in, especially bull trout, kokanee, steelhead, and even cutthroat in some places.

    I live in Washington no further than 30 minutes from McNary damn and it’s a shame to see how the lifted limit on walleye and smallmouth has affected the Colombia. Smallmouth are rare to find above 3 pounds and walleye are getting harder to find. The reason they removed the limit is to help the salmon fisheries population in state, but the walleye and bass are not the problem. There are too many native American nets killing salmon, and too many dams that don’t have fish latters. It’s disgraceful that to see people shit on every species in the rivers just to save salmon when there are much better solutions to the problem that don’t involve killing off native species of fish like walleye, pike minnow, and smallmouth.

    • @uncutangling
      @uncutangling  7 років тому

      For bass or catfish or predators? A spinning reel is a better tool for most applications on the light to medium scale...and baitcaster takes over from medium to heavy since the design manages thicker line better.

    • @brendandilk-sobkowich907
      @brendandilk-sobkowich907 7 років тому

      Uncut Angling my main fishing is walleye, however with the recent purchase of a bigger boat the plan is to attack some bigger lakes, maybe venture into Ontario a bit. Never really tried bass fishing, however would be into it and trying out some trout fishing. I do a lot of trolling which is why I thought a bait caster would be better for that application then a spinning rod

    They dont care about the walleye because the salmon fishery is the $$. All those salmon fingerlings need to run the walleye gauntlet to get back to the ocean. Salmon protein is what grows them so big.
