The progression of this software is beautiful to see. I remember using Audacity to record a dry bass recording for my high school jazz band. Now I could practically use it as my main DAW. Once this gets fully-fledged MIDI support-perhaps Musescore file import integration?-Audacity could become a free one-stop shop for all things composition, mixing and sharing.
I used PT for years, then heard about this one, tried it out, and never went back. I'm not a pro, so I have no idea if it's robust enough for that playground, but it is well powered for what I need it for.
Audacity keeps getting better and much closer to modern DAW's including Ableton Live and others... nice update including using VSTs and the master effects channel which works in real-time.
As always - amazing progress, with (from the outside) hard to understand priorities. You mention people working with loops. Can we please get the grid lines to show through the clip backgrounds so we can actually use them to align waveforms themselves to the beat grid? It’s baffling to not see this afaik common request addressed when so many other UI concerns get so much love! :-) Thank you for all of your hard work on reviving Audacity!
Fantastic! Well done!! My little 1% fix suggestion is the zoom. It goes from too far in to WAAAYYY too far out zoomed so the waveforms about about 2pixels wide or to barely being seen. It goes from having a waveform window view of about 3 mins, to scrolling on the mouse to about 10 hours in one scroll and not being able to see the audio - It's just a bit crazy at the moment. I would also like to suggest having a "right-click drag" to move the waveforms around too. Just small things (and yes, I'm still an old Audition 3 user ;) ) Love your work! I've also been using since pre v1.

Both MS and Audacity are tangentially run by "MuseGroup," which (I think) is a company that primarily gets money from commissions on sheet music sales from their platform. Nothing too shady, thankfully, and it seems sustainable, too, which is something many FOSS projects are woefully missing.
They got a new lead designer, Tantacrul is his personal channel. I'm sure more has changed too, but the new source of direction seems to be stemming from him (he's the narrator and likely creator of this video, too)
The new interface is wonderful! And I love the ability to change pitch or tempo separately now. Can stretch out a growl sound effect to whatever length I need.
I truly appreciate Audacity team turning music prodcutivity more democratic for all msuic lovers and amateurs. Those are the things that still keep my hope that human kind is not bad but some. Thank you all very much indeed.

Honestly, they just made it too complicated for me 😭 I also hate the new design, but I'm sure some people love it. I'm moving back to the last version for now, though.

Does the Audacity team have any plans of integrating the OpenVINO plugins into future releases? This would be great for those of us who have to reinstall them after each release
I hate the behaviour of the loop function. Just make it repeat my selection!!! I don't want to set the loop separately, why should I? So please set it back to the way it was.
I am glad that Audacity, a wonderfully functional program is finally getting some GUI and appearance love. Thank you. New sliders look good! But the slot doesn't have enough contrast. At 4K, while the outline of the transport controls is large--the actual start, stop, etc icons are needlessly too small. They should be the very first thing you see while standing an arm's length away, while your guitar hangs over they keyboard. In dark mode, waveform should be just a bit brighter. As far as the Export Audio on the File menu, I would rather a separate Upload and Export. Please don't slow down every single local filesave--to push online outlets. : ( Thank you for working on Audacity!
Great work! Now we need to have all the existing filters ported to this new architecture. I wish we could use all the existing filters for DAW style editing, even if it needed some preprocessing + caching because existing filters do not support real-time operation.
I just like how they didn't show how unappealing the new dark mode is. Also, the new light mode feels pretty inconsistent, because there are some elements that are dark, and they don't fit with a light mode. The dark mode has some parts that are light, which result in an unappealing look. I'm sticking to the classic style, because it's designed to work well with the white top bar, bottom bar, entries, dialogs, and more. Seriously, the new color schemes look pretty bad when they don't also change the entries, dialogs, and top and bottom bars.
Y'all are doing amazing work over there! Thank you so much for improving on this already amazing tool (actually more of a toolbox now) - and more importantly, for keeping it free. I'll be buying some coffees for the team very soon!! 😉

Audacity is simply fantastic. If you add a Bus Rack Window and Post/Pre Fader sends feautures in the next update, it would be unstoppable. I hope this on next update.
Impressive. Audacity and Muse are my main composing and production tools. This version of Audacity stops responding occasionally and crashes on Ubuntu. Previous release did not do that.
I use Audacity for a lot of editing! But I did run into an issue when I bought my new laptop a couple years ago, (It's an HP Envy). After recording a few lines, I'd listen to the playback and it would sound extremely muddled and not clear. Do you think the new updates might fix that issue?
I understand the new compressor has a lot of extra features. I don't really need all that, I need something simple. How can I make the new compressor work like it did before this update? I do not know what settings were in place before.
I have been using Audacity for many years. I use it to mix other peoples music, making unique playlists with smooth transitions between songs. To do what I do each song is modified and placed carefully to transition into the next song. Often this requires many modifications. Audacity has been awesome for this in the past. Just save and everything stayed in place. Some of my mixes go up to 18 hours long and have almost 200 songs. The last update . . . grrrrrr when I saved and reopened Audacity files the songs had moved and where no longer lined up the way I had them. I had to redo hours and hours of work and could no longer trust the save feature. Add to that the navigation feature has changed (this might be a settings issue) I used to click to the left or right of the current place button to page left or right. Now it is super finicky and often skirts far right or left instead of just one page, very frustrating to have to keep clicking the little arrow or zooming in and out to get back to where I was just working. Instead of enjoying one my creative outlets I was swearing and yelling instead. I hope this update fixes the save and navigation issue. Or whomever is posting these video can help me. Have loved and used Audacity

No, but if you click on the ... menu in the track, there's some menu items which tell you the sample rate and bit depth.
