Hello AJ This Someone from the school you preformed live with on October 25,2021 Also Great song.
What a wonderful video. This is a part of Filipino-American history that needs to be taught to set the record straight on how the UFW came to be. My grandfather, Claro, was a labor organizer back in the day. He'd be proud of this video to bring Larry to the forefront.
major hamilton vibes! makes me so proud to be filipino! great work aj, thank you for telling his story through music. 👏🏻🇵🇭✨
Am here after watching AJ in the 75th Kalayaan Anniv in Phil Consolate's Facebook Live this morning.. 🥰🥰🥰
AJ, please do a song about SF's International Hotel in Manilatown - the work you do is so important as it can bring awareness about Filipino history in the U.S. 🙏🙏🙏
My dad and uncle traveled from Pangasinan to this country in 1927. Along with other manongs, they worked the fields in California and the canneries in Washington. They faced racism throughout their lives, and they survived to build a strong life for themselves and their families. It is wonderful to hear the story of Larry Itliong who is one of the great leaders of justice movement in this country.
I hope there are more Filipino American history videos like this! Sucks that they really don’t teach you these things in school
Thanks for making Larry’s story and the story of the legacy and labor of Filipino farmworkers so accessible. I share your video every year with my kids’ school and this year was able to get Oakland Unified to send a message celebrating Larry Itliong day and sharing out the video and resources from Journey for Justice ❤️💙💛
This is sooooo, so beautiful and I cannot thank you enough for making it! I showed this to my fifth graders today and they ERUPTED in applause when it finished. We had Library afterwards and the kids all asked the librarian about the book. THANK YOU for shedding this light on a chapter of our history that I can guarantee you I will teach every year from here on out with the help of your amazing work of art!
Thank you for sharing this information. Never knew there was such a guy like Larry that fought so hard for the Filipino's. Must've been really scary back then cause the Filipinos got beat up in Hawaii for trying to organize unions to fight against the slave like wages, but they eventually prevailed. My grandfather came to Hawaii from Northern Philippines when he was 16 years old in 1925? He was such an inspiration to us all. He worked so hard for the plantation but he had a lot of side businesses. He made a lot of money and invested in a lot of real estate. He lived till 96 years old and was as sharp as ever. Today our three generation of Filipino families comprised of a doctor, surgeon, lawyer, nurses and self employed business owners. Your video is awesome and your talent is superb. Please continue doing more videos on the history of the Filipinos in the United States. You make us really proud of you and your friends and of our Filipino heritage.
Salamat...totally appreciate this video. Reminded me of my grandfather and ILWU IN HAWAII. He was always about fair justice and work ethics for our Filipino heritage. Again Thank you for sharing. I am sharing this with everyone
Having been a field worker most of my young adult life, as a Latin American in the early 70’s and 80’s, I never heard of Larry Itliong until his passing. Both my dad and I were part of the Labor Movement and followed and supported Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers. Mr Itilong was still before my time as a field worker. To honor him in song is truly the best way commemorate his long life as a true Union Organizer.
Coming from a former U.S. History teacher at a high school that was half Filipino, I wish I had this video, back then. FYI, I covered the I-Hotel as it was local history. Larry Itliong was put into the curriculum about 8 years ago...Good song and a very good history lesson.
That’s amazing! I’m glad I Hotel is covered too.
@@huntrrams It's not in the CA state standards (impossible to cover them all). It was what I put in my standards. To discuss the activism of the 1960s and 1970s that involved Filipinos and Chinese was something that gets ignored. In my 2nd to last year of teaching I had some UC Davis students who were surveying the US History teachers at our school, and I was the only one who correctly identified him. I felt bad that I hadn't mentioned him when I was discussing the UFWA that year or any previous year, even though I'd posted a small news article that mentioned his inclusion. Included him my final year...Once again, a really good video...
Appreciate you putting this out there kuya. Don’t let the manongs be forgotten.
What a fantastic song as an introduction to Larry Itliong! I will play it for the third graders at my school who are learning about advocacy and social justice. I'm Filipino American elementary school teacher and proud of my heritage. The Manongs sacrificed and contributed to our society in many ways. Their story needs to be honored and shared. Thanks for posting!
This is AMAZING. Beautiful nod to Agbayani Village too 😭😭 for his people to the end
I'm Filipino and I'm in this school and there's a library teacher "Mrs serda" (Patty Serda) Morningside was my whole childhood!!!
I got major school house rock vibes 😁 Thanks AJ for teaching me about this great man in American history! ❤
We love the wholesome history vibes! Filipino and Mexican Am solidarity makes me so happy
This gave me goosebumps for real! I was browsing the web about Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz for our labor law class. Went here to search a few speeches of him.. and wow, this song! I've always been a fan of you, AJ Rafael. Much love!!
I’m Mexican-American, I truly loved this video! It’s sad our schools, especially in California never teach us this type of history. I make an effort now to learn more about Filipino history, my son is Mexican-Filipino and I make that effort to teach my son so he can be proud to be Filipino.
Thanks for sharing!!

Ironically, the song leaves out many important details that explains why Larry's name exists in obscurity.
Proud Filipino here
Proud pangasenense
The truth is like a LION you don’t have to defend it. It will defend itself! That’s the real truth about Larry Itliong. He spearheaded this whole farm labor movement!!! Keeping it Real…
Glad to hear about this before Caesar Chavez! So there was Unity thru the Union! Asians were the labor for farm workers!
BEAUTIFUL !!! GONNA EDUCATE MY PINOY HOMIES BOUGHT ARE UNITED STRUGGLE !!🇲🇽🇵🇭🥊✊🏾💯
You should probably look into WHY Mexicans constantly broke Itliongs strikes and why he left the UFW.
It’s his birthday today if im not mistaken
Ayeeee Delano
