Funnily enough, for whatever reason, I genuinely prefer Gangle without pupils. At this point, having them feels weird after 3 episodes of getting used to her usual character design. I actually felt weirded out by her expressions this episode. Wait, is that mean to say?
This compilation is actually pretty useful for analysis. It made me realize each of those "tink"s was probably a point her mask would've broken if it were breakable.
Yes. It makes sense. When you got the subtitles on in the episode, you'll also see that they progressively get "louder," the first time, they say "(tink!)", the second time, "(tink!!)", and the third time, you'll read "(TINK!!)"
y'know, i actually had a thought that those little *tinks* were the mask cracking, since it was plastic, meaning it wouldn't instantly break like a glass or porcelain one, but plastic can still break down or tear, almost like paper even, and i thought that eventually the mask would just shatter into a pile of shards when it eventually broke fully, ridding her of what she thought was her last source of staying positive or not breaking down then, in the end, she learned bottling up her emotions just made her more crazy and mentally hurt (i get the feeling, regularly...), which we saw when she spun under the streetlight with a smile on her tragedy mask, which, to me, was somewhat of a freeing sight to see
i've been wondering if instead of the mask breaking making her sad, when she gets sad the mask breaks. Coincidentally every mask break has come from a physical impact.
If zooble and pomni weren't there, she probably would've done so long ago. Ironic that the ones who may struggle the most during adventures are also the most mindful and helpful (no offense to ragatha)
I feel like a good moment to put in was her talking to Jax when he asks her if the clock was broken because she then says "or are we the one's who are broken?" Then she started going on a ramble where she started off questioning how long they were there for, then asking if they were ever gonna go home, and if they will ever achieve their dreams, until she's interrupted by her watch beeping
I’m so glad you mentioned this! I strongly believe that if she spiraled for much longer here, she would’ve abstracted too. If you look closely, there’s a glitchy and staticky effect as well! (If I’m right here, it means that she almost abstracted twice in this episode alone.) Poor Gangle…
@@Bluuish_Skies She was one hundred percent going to abstract at 3:18. The electrical droning growing deafeningly loud (possibly referencing the electrical, glitchy appearance of the abstracted), the darkness surrounding her (the abstracted seem to feel comfortable when away from light), and how the screen almost completely blurs from the Gaussian blur (possibly a visual for how her form was about to blur and distort into something unrecognisable). The moment Pomni distracts her is when all that suddenly goes away, showing the importance of Kinger’s speech to Pomni. And lastly, I wanted to mention how Kaufmo was described as “giving up”, implying that abstraction is a sudden process that does not require any long-term mental health issues. Gangle totally could have just “given up” here and lost herself completely. That is probably the biggest worry about abstraction; one day they are fine, but then they could go away the next day.
When you got the subtitles on while watching the episode, you'll see that the tinks get 'louder': First time: (tink!) Second time: (tink!!) Third time: (TINK!!!)
As someone with Bipolar Disorder, Gangle is an AMAZING representation of what it’s like. Even if it might not be intentional, the mania mixed with misery that we see her go through in just the timespan of a couple seconds is so real. And what’s heartbreaking is that it’s an actual thing some people deal with on a daily basis. It constantly feels like you’re buzzing with excitement and hope like you’ve been suddenly cured of all your pain, like you can take on the world.. then one second later you get hit in the head with a ball and embarrass yourself, or someone says something that hurts you because you know that it’s true and it feels like the words whip your heart.. and suddenly you’re in the most mental anguish you’ve ever been in in your entire life. Like, you can’t do anything other than mull over how worthless you are.. until you force yourself to try and make some sort of lesson that’ll make you return back to semi-normality, but you still feel empty and dead inside so you lose all touch with reality and dance manically embracing that you’ll never feel okay.. it’s really really accurate. THIS IS AMAZING REPRESENTATION.
the fact that they just LEFT Ragatha in the deep fryer SCREAMING IN PAIN for so long messed me up SO much. they didn't even get her out when the scene ended!
The fact that she said that IN FRONT OF GANGLE is wild. Like, imagine you're feeling VERY depressed, pretty much everyone's done nothing but insult you, you wanna cry, and the only person you are with and try to explain yourself to hits you with pretty much a "Who'd have thunk, you're depressed again"
@Acutelittlecat pretty sure Pomni says that because for the past two episodes, she's had a talk with a character about something in the same style. Gummigoo and Kinger. She thought that this was the same as before
I saw a comment on another video, it said that if a depressed person all of a sudden becomes happy, it’s a warning sign of them committing suicide, they also said too back up their statement that Gangle didn’t trip into the road, instead she happily looked up, closed her eyes, turned around and dived into traffic, if it weren’t for Pomni offering too close the restaurant herself, Gangle would’ve abstracted, and if it weren’t for Zooble, Gangle would’ve became more depressed.
Oh. My. God. You just explained that whole freaking scene to me. The saddest thing? They can't die. It was pointless. It was pretty much the only reason she survived. Imagine being Gangle here

Pretty much..its said that when you go insane in the circus you abstract but not like kinger insanity sort of but like you become unable to think straight or to litteraly just continue living. Abstraction in tadc is most likely some sort of suucide
The reason Gangle is doing all this is because she's trying really hard to indulge her nostalgia for her normal life when she was a shift manager. It just kinda hurts all the more when people refuse to let her have her fantasy. Because now she can't escape the reality that, as far as she's aware, she's all alone in the maddening circumstances of the circus and has nobody she can depend on to actually help her. Especially after the way she's been acting this episode. Pomni and Zooble thankfully proved her wrong.
I think I forgot to place the clip in while I was editing! I knew I remembered that something wasn't right 😓 its alright, people make mistakes sometimes and that's completely normal ^^ 👍
I think the worst part is that the mask doesn’t control her words, it really only affects the tone. That means all the things she said were not because of the mask, but because of how she feels regardless of which mask it is, it’s just here talking genuinely.
