Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621) is a Dutch composer and organist. He composed his Pavana Lachrimae sometimes in the early 17th century.
Pavana Lachrimae by Sweelinck is a keyboard piece based on Flow My Tears (Renaissance music) by John Dowland* (1562-1626).
The piece consists of 3 different themes and varies each of them once. The structure of this piece is AA1-BB1-CC1.
* John Dowland was an English composer, lutenist, and singer who was one of the most famous musicians of his time. The Dowland’s work was first found in his Second Book of Ayres (Songs) of 1600.
