Yes! I totally think I'm picking up what you'ree putting down (referring to your comments at the end about taking in Maison from time to time). My husband and I have a similar dynamic with his nieces and nephews. What a blessing it is to be able to step in and bless/take care of others but WHEW those dynamics are not easy to navigate. If you can get fun doses of your Neice but are not a parent and so you can have the flexibility to take time for yourself to travel, work, etc., why not just continue to be the cool aunt? Why would you want that full time committment? Seems like being an aunt gives you the best of both worlds…
