Come on, now; be honest. We are in fact somewhat less than 10% prepared. (what; like about 5%; 3%?). Lol. I have a feeling that of the money allocated in order to help us prepare, probably 75% goes to administration and for "scientists" to "study this phenomenon". Most of the rest goes to buy and install warning systems such as radio announcements, warning sirens and escape route road signs (which I have seen in western Washington.) If it happens, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE EXCEPT RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! NOT Lol.
As a side note, in Washington in the exact same areas that could be affected by tsunamis, there is worry of lahar mud flows from erupting volcanoes in the Cascades and so they have road signs for that scenario as well. Guess where I will never buy property.

R I’m 40 years old, and grew up in Portland, Oregon area for around 20 years. It’s the most beautiful area! But, I decided to move to Arizona, and about 5-8 years before I moved we started to have earthquakes, never before then.
We never had preparations for this, EVER! We, never had emergency alerts.. nothing.
Seaside, OR. Is just a vacation area, there will always be vacations there. I’m scared for my friends who are there. And have NO doubt that this is going to occur soon. It’s a 2 lane small highway from the beaches over the mts. To the city... it will be stopped gridlock! Like Paradise, CA. Experienced. Sad!

Pia Salvato people need to take some responsibility. We have been told for years to have supplies for at least 3 days. Just observe what happens before a winter storm- the store shelves are cleared out in hours. That tells me the vast majority are not prepared.

I would be working on a greenhouse, dehydration using solar, because you will not have electricity. Get some sort of solarium set up. You can dehydrate meat too. Stockpile wood for heating. Planning for it, will give you some peace of mind. Moving won't help. This crap is everywhere! Look at the earthquake of 1812. It made the Mississippi river run BACKWARDS! it's at the edge of Tennessee! Very interesting subject. I wish you well! Best bet, keeping BACKPACKS packed with dehydrated foods and water purification tablets or straws. You can grab those, and go! And a pot to cook in!

We should probably all prepare for darkness and cold. Have you seen some of the underground dwellings that have been discovered? They were for longtime habitation.

The historical evidence says the last Tsunami, in year 1700, was 50 meters high, not feet. That makes the "tsunami safe" shelters into deathtraps. The one in three chance of it happening in the next fifty years is a very low estimate. In the last 60.000 years, the earthquakes and tsunamis in this region has been happening regularly every 200 years. Now it is 316 years since the last. The tension between the tectonic plates have been building up for a much longer time than usual. In recent years, we have seen a wave of big earthquakes going around the world. As the tectonic plates are all shoving at each other, there is no reason to believe the ones in the Pacific Northwest will stay put. I think it will come within the next ten years, and it will be a Mega quake. Get the hell out of there, a Tsunami is the only natural disaster you cannot survive. Unless you are more than 50 meters above sea level and on solid ground when it comes, you die.

I've lived in Southern and Northern California since I was 14 years old.
And I've been through numerous earthquakes, which, luckily, I've never experienced any real damage.
But I've had numerous dreams over the last few decades of a huge tidal wave rising over the high heels and lower mountains of Central California (the Pacific Ridge from the coast along Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1)
The height of the waves were approximately 200-300 feet.
I've also had dreams of similar waves reaching about 180 feet coming into San Francisco. I lived on the 19th floor of a condominium building on Cathedral Hill at the time.
I'm guessing the height of the building along with the height of Cathedral Hill would make the waves around 250 plus in height.
    That's scary.
Sure, I realize these were only dreams. And dreams are almost always due to unsettled hopes and/or fears. But considering that a very large earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone could create such enormous wave height, it's also a valid fear.
I certainly hope I never see this in my lifetime.
I'm 57 years old now, but I believe it's becoming more likely this could occur at some point in my lifetime.
I'm a surfer from the mid 70s. I've surfed California on countless instances, from San Diego to the Oregon border. And I've been on some fairly large waves that reached 20 plus feet. That doesn't sound very intimidating but when you're riding such a wave it's much higher than it's seen.
I couldn't imagine being on the coast or especially along the beach front when a 100 plus wave hits. It would be devistating to countless beach front honest and low-lying communities.
Thousands along the coast would perish immediately and thousands would be injured severely.
And this doesn't include the effects of various earthquakes along the coastal areas.
Damn...If this happens, it will be more than anyone has considered. More than FEMA will be able to respond. 😔

This is why I recommend people getting involved in Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), and getting an amateur radio license. Those of us who do survive this won't be able to use telephone or internet for a very long time, and that is if we leave the region after all this hits. If we opt to stay, it could be even longer.

    • @k9builder
      @k9builder 8 років тому +2

No. Radio transceivers are self-contained devices, with the only serious limiting factor being the antenna connected to radio. To this end, antennas range from simple whip devices that connect directly to a hand-held unit, all the way up to those towers that you have expressed concern about. Truthfully, those towers aren't actually necessary, but they are more efficient than something like a G5RV wire antenna, or some whip type antennas. Truthfully, I seriously doubt that many hams will be using their towers during an emergency, relying more upon G5RV, handheld transceivers with a whip antenna, or NVIS systems. Large scale towers, though quite useful, are more of a luxury, and not all hams can afford them.

+Justin M - what do you know about the "Lord" that you did not learn from men? Most likely the answer is "nothing." So who are those men who tell you what to believe, and what did they do to deserve your complete unquestioning trust in nothing more than their words? Are they able to demonstrate their credentials by working the kinds of miracles the bible promises you can do? See Matthew 17:20 - it's been a while since I've seen any Christian throwing a mountain into the sea with just a spoken command.
And speaking of errors of "their" ways, if you actually read the bible, you'll read Jesus telling people to stop judging the sins of other people and fix their own sins first. Have you stopped sinning entirely, according to the definition of "sin" that you mindlessly absorbed from your self-appointed spokesmen for God? If you are still sinning routinely, just like 100% of professing Christians, then STFU about other people's "errors." Your own stupid bible says only sinless people can judge others.

I mean once the improvements are finished I would have demanded the Tax increase be removed as part of the deal leaving maybe a .5% inplace for maintenance. This is the main problem with government in general, once a tax is put in place it stays that way unless it is outlined to be retracted in a specified amount of time. There are so many other ways to pay for something like this other than fleecing the general public of their money.
