I interviewed Carl in February 1988 (for my radio program) - he was caughing throughout the interview, and he kept caughing over the next many months leading up to the US Olympic trials (where he tested positive for remedy written in Chinese against caugh; but it contained ephedrine, so he tested positive, but was later cleared to compete according to the rules)!
Carl is even caughing in this video - only a moment before the race starts!

This was a month before Johnson tested positive for Stanazolol at the Olympics. It was also a month after Lewis tested positive for 3 separate substances at the US Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. The difference being that Lewis's positive was covered up by US authorities. That wasn't found out until 2001. Lewis later admitted he was only one of hundreds of athletes that had their positive tests hidden by US track & field

Carl didn't even lift weights much until Ben beat him. I have friends from the USA team during that era. I saw Carl at a meet when he was 18 and still in High School. He nearly jumped out of the long jump pit in Albuquerque. He didn't know what a steroid was at that time and he was beating everybody in 3 events. He was the best natural sprinter I have ever seen. His technique was flawless. His ability to get up vertically and stay in the air for the long jump was incredible. He ran 5 events in many meets when the other sprinters ran 1, 2, or 3 at the most. He was the best speed athlete in Track and Field history.

Yeah, so many people slinging mud on here that everyone was on steroids and not just Ben. Bottom line is, removing the question of steroids, Ben wouldn't even be within 8 feet of Lewis, and neither would anyone else.. Lewis was an incredible athlete that may have been lab enhanced at some points in his career, Ben's career was lab made.

Carl Lewis ran with such composure and with an amazing high knee. This gave him such a large stride pattern when compared to his competitors. Thus he was nearly always able to make up ground on them in the second half of his 100 meter races. The way he caught and passed this talented field was testimont to his amazing technique and talent. He kept increasing his work rate and speed just at the moment most of the field were marginally decreasing theirs.

My aunt was a professional running athlete, she'd come back from meets, and tell me and my mom all the dirt! Back in the day, amphetamines were like candy - she took some, they made her sick and she took herself out of competition, but you're right, everyone was doping...led to the early death of Flo-Jo

My comment was in regard to Johnson's lack of ethics. Many athletes have been found guilty of doping. In Johnson's case, rather than admit to it and take responsibility, he feigned ignorance, then blamed his coach and even threw his teammates under the bus - a total scum. And even though many athletes do juice or other supplements, it was immediately and blatantly obvious in johnson's case because his appearance and performance changed radically between when he was cycled off and on the drugs. Carl Lewis's performance was consistent.

The False Start Detection System analyses pressure on the starting blocks from 0.3 seconds before the gun to 0.7 seconds after the gun. So the runner has to start exerting increasing pressure on the blocks 0.3 seconds BEFORE the gun and reach the maximum allowable force 0.7 seconds AFTER the gun to be hit with a false start.

Ben ran 10.0 in this race finishing 3rd. He looked rather slim at first glance. I wonder if he laid off the PEDs to gauge where he truly was, then seeing how poorly he performed upped his juice for the Olympics, because by the time he got there his physique was markedly larger than what we see here only a month before. Of course, we all know how well he did at the Olympics and what all transpired and why. And of course, we know through evidence and admission that nearly all the racers in the Seoul 100 meter final were PED cheaters. Ben at least comes off as a sympathetic figure. Carl Lewis even after all these years comes off as an arrogant prick. His "gold" medal should be revoked as well, except the IOC stating that it was after the statute of limitations and therefore too late to do anything about it.
