    TY for the video! Just bought a Wahoo KICKR SNAP on Xmas day and still setting it up. Brand new to Zwift so these videos help alot.

    Great stuff. The last few videos inspired me to give Zwift a go. First session today and really enjoyed it!

    Very helpful video, thanks. I'm a recent convert to Zwift and was wondering which FTP test to do first. I'll start off with the Ramp test Lite (as that has smaller increments) and see how that goes. If I don't max out on that one, I'll wait a few days and do the one in your video.

    Dawg i think your HR monitor is off... there's no way your at 213 BPM unless you're like 10 years old

      Seriously though! I've been meaning to test it against another HRM. Its a chest strap and i read they might be prone to strange numbers.

      Some people just have really high heart rates. Also, if you're untrained or in an area that isn't properly ventilated, heart rate can go higher than normal.

      @@valentindelapena7333 yeah but 213 is more than a high heart rate😅

      Not at all. First of all, (a) 220-age (derived from secondary data by Fox et al., 1971, following a conversation during a flight back from the ACSM AnnualMeeting) is not the most accurate formula for estimating HRMax, and (b) all formulas for HRmax have a standard error of about +/- 10bpm. That means 68% of the population is between 10bpm above or below estimated HRMax, and 95% of the population is between 20bpm above or below estimated HRMax. A decent article on the topic is by Robergs & Landwehr (2002), "The surprising history of the "HRmax=220-age" equation", JEPOnline, 2002;5(2):1-10. It's free to access.
      It's surprising how many athletes and even personal trainers are fixated on 220-Age formula as representing "true" HRMax. As an example of "true" HRMax, I'm 64 years old and my actual HRMax is around 195 bpm... my predicted HRMax using the Fox et al. equation is 156bpm!

      @@valentindelapena7333 HR would not go above natural HRMax under any conditions, but it might reach max sooner under physiologically stressful conditions. But you are correct, HRMax is very individual and people differ a lot from the age-predicted value. My comment above points you to one of many useful articles on the topic.

    Great video! Have you tried to do the shorter FTP test (20min effort) to compare to this test? I typically do the 20min test but gave the ramp test a try for the first time today and it really seemed to over estimate my FTP imo.

    • @socalgravel
      @socalgravel  3 роки тому +3

      That's a good idea for a video! I have done the shorter 20 min test but not in direct comparison to the ramp test. I imagine each test can play to an individual rider's strengths or weaknesses. To make a direct comparison could prove difficult because doing tests back to back you'd already be tired. But maybe alternating tests each week and comparing the averages over time...its worth a look.

    Where can you find the results to the test? I have done it and saw the result on screen but wondering if it’s saved somewhere. Thank you!

    Hello Michael. I am new to zwift but have been cycling for past 18 months. I found your video helpful. I’d already taken an initial ramp test lite. Had one question: where does zwift list or report my actual current FTP score? I understand how it’s calculated but I don’t see the actual score anywhere. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

      Its been a minute since checking but I believe when you go to see the different workouts you will see your FTP displayed in the corner.

      What Michael said, plus, if you expand the user menu on the top right corner and select profile, you will see the FTP field where you'd normally input your FTP manually will be updated with the result after you do an FTP ramp test.

    Ain't no way that HR is accurate. I've only hit 183 on the hardest efforts.
    If you think hitting 215bpm will make you more fit you are deluded.
