So I’ll speak to some of my knowledge about brass. I’m a piano technician. I take down pianos that have brass parts all the time. The wheels are made of brass and they’re pretty durable. The hinges are way thinner. I go far as it probably be the same thickness as your pipes. The one thing I’ve noticed is that as the heat up, they become really malleable. Easily bent. Not to say the brass is a bad metal, but that’s just my experience with brass. Also looks wise, it will oxidize without a proper coating
First of all, that’s a really cool profession. Secondly, thanks for the info! So in a high energy performance environment a racing engine could warp the exhaust from all the intense heat, potentially. This is the kind of info I love storing in my brain
I think the bmw transmission situation is similar to Ford gt500 7 spd because since the 7 spd is locked by tremec they can't tune it so, the higher trims of the m series might have a similar problem where it wasn't unlockable at first and later it was able to be unlocked to improve other transmissions
I wouldn’t say it’s that kind of situation. It’s more so just a case of BMW deliberately allowing the functionality of the gearboxes in normal M cars to perform worse when an OEM firmware upgrade is all they need
Different materials have different sonority to a degree so imo i think the exhaust materials do matter.
Brass is better to keep for Cutleries and Instruments really. it's nicely sonorous, Malleable and Tough but doesn't have much Higher temperature resistance.
Toughness =|= Hardness
I wonder if there was a way to treat the surfaces of it with some kind of coating. Maybe use ceramics? Downside is it would probably be too expensive and unnecessarily heavy
@@TheRacingJoker you can do some electroplating to deposit a layer of metal but with exhaust temperatures and gas flow, with petrol fumes and what not, it might just corrode away.
And then there would be not much of a difference as the main lattice of the base material won't change
I guess some kind of alloy would be better? I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, I don't know if you can just make an alloy and assume it'll even mix properly and give you something knew and improved
Well BMW uses PSA(Peugeot/Citroen) engines in their diesel cars , like the 114D to the 120D or even in the Mini Cooper , so , yah , they can do something like that to their gearboxs , its kinda sad
Jesus really? I don’t think I ever knew that. Then again if I wanted a diesel I’d want a truck or a semi
@@TheRacingJoker yup , in europe its very common having a diesel car , they can surprise you 😂, but not only BMW does that , Mercedes uses Renault engines too , like Nissan , yes Nissan uses , for example in the their little SUVs , the Renault 1.5 diesel engines , its a weird market
That sounds hugely different to the US where if you want diesel you gotta get something BIG lol
Brass hard to bend maybe rust to fast An might melt due to its heat maybe also brittle
Interesting! Well it made for a neat video! This is the kind of random info I like to store in my brain
The F-250 to F-550 have damn near the identical cab and chassis design, you really could put a bed on an F-550 and use it, it’ll look like an F-3/450. Also the F-6/750 are underpowered compared to the more normal Super Duty line. The 6.7 in those makes 475HP/1050TQ or 500HP/1200TQ
Good grief! That’s a lot of torque. I never checked to see how these truck compared to my cascadia i used to have
Did you know in the UK a woman was car jacked in her BMW. Her baby was in the car seat in the back. The police contacted BMW for the vehicles gps and they said no. The reason they gave was the owner did not pay for the gps subscription when she bought the car. WTF BMW?!?
Weird that they couldn’t simply turn it on for that instance
@@TheRacingJokerBMW gotta BMW ya know
Hey tom when are you going to do the next F&F commentary?
I was just watching the old ones.
Soon! I need to build up a backup of scheduled video to give myself time to film and edit the commentary
