    I think Model was known as the "Fireman" as he was called during operational emergencies on the eastern front.

  • @ExRhodesian

    He remarked to his adjutant that a Field Marshall who sent thousands of men to their deaths cannot simply just surrender, he joined his men in valhalla .

    • @melgross
      @melgross Рік тому +6

      It wasn’t his men’s deaths that was why he did that. It was that he knew his sending people to death as slaves as well as the many other murders he was responsible for would get him executed. Other German generals who didn’t do that survived.

    • @ExRhodesian
      @ExRhodesian Рік тому +1

      G@@melgross He was a soldier and a Field Marshall who died like one. He was not going into captivity like that spineless Von Paulus. What war crimes? How can one commit war crimes in a war The winners decide who the criminals are, terrorists wipe out a missionary school and bayonet babies and they are freedom fighters according to the lying media. Model's only crime was in losing.

      Please don't confuse what these assholes did with the ancient Germanic concept of Valholl. And besides, Model committed suicide, he did not die in battle, therefore he wouldn't be eligible...

      @@willremy5142 The Germans were the good guys. I know it is a bitter pill to swallow as my ancestors were duped as well. At least now I now who the real enemy is the one who is behind every dirty deed going back 2000 plus years. Sure Model could have gone out like General Hartmann or Stemmermann on the field of honour but he still went out with his boots on.

      @@willremy5142You sound like you know nothing about a soldier's death. All the US and USSR did was make it a capital crime to lose a war Model took the honorable way out as these Judeo Bolshevists wouldn't give the condemned the decency of a firing squad.

      Dripping with typical pro- Allied self-righteousness.
      Model was an outstanding leader first and foremost, with a lion heart: When he arrived in the winter 1941/2 at his command of the 9. Army, Soviets next to the command stand had taken over the supply depot and we're plundering. Model stepped in ad informed his despondent officers:" We'll attach here and here and there..." his chief of staff , flabberghasted, asked, " What resources did you bring?" He answered " Myself."- Upon which everybody burst put laughing. The spell had been broken, his scattered forces turned to fight and defeated a more numerous enemy. Model single- handedly saved Army Group Center that time.

    Walter Model wasn't only a Field Marshal but a convinced Nazi. Of course, all German officers supported Hitler (at least in the beginning), although they later said otherwise. But there weren't so many convinced Nazis among them. The other such convinced Nazi was Reichenau, for instance. As for his war crimes, the Soviets especially wanted him for his Büffel Bewegung - the withdrawal of German troops from the Rzhev salient. Where scorched earth policy was in full swing. By the way - how it may seem strange - there weren't so many German Field Marshals which were so avidly demanded. Another was Kleist who ardently tried to foment national strife in the Caucasus.

      Not really. My parents still alive, born in 1932 and 1934. They still are traumatized what happened until 1945.
      Even worse. My grandmother, 1905 to 1994 refused television her whole life. Feared seeing any pictures of war somewhere in the world. One grandfather was on almost every theater of war except Africa. His body survived, but his soul has gone somewhere. He was a broken man and never spoke a single word of what has happened.
      My 2nd grandfather luckily was too old for Nazis back then. He also had seen enough in the Great War and time after, because he went to legion etrangere in the 20s. Retired in early 30s he was pressed to Volkssturm last days and captured by French toops on 23rd of April 45. Luck again for him, they recognized his service for France and treated him well.
      Day of capture was his birthday and he felt like born again, he told.
