That was very naughty of you, Alan!
You rolled through 2 stop signs without stopping! Would you have done that if you'd been driving? Bicycle riders are subject to the same road laws as car drivers. The flagrant disregard for road laws displayed by many cyclists is one of the reasons why car drivers tend to hate on us bicycle riders.. (and why they show us little to no respect or consideration on the roads).
On a lighter note, yesterday I took delivery of my own fat-wheeled e-bike. Must say, I'm loving it!

You are obviously very pleased with this two wheeled machine Alan and I’m sure you ride it very responsibly. I have to say this though…….in Glasgow Scotland ,and I suspect in many UK cities , these things are an absolute menace to people walking in pedestrian precincts .I’m talking about DELIVEROO and JUST EAT drivers. I don’t think it will be long before someone is very badly injured or killed by these young men as many of them ride like maniacs through busy streets . I speak as a (conventional) cyclist myself and I always dismount on precincts despite only pedal power and much much less weight/mass than one of these things. Let’s be honest, with the weight and tyres on these things, they are essentially MOTOR CYCLES . Very best wishes on your trip Alan and respect for finishing WR 2 .

Loved the humour with the 'Frozen' backpack, Alan. In my days, being 64, we called them knapsacks. Great bike, by the way and the perfect mode of transportation for you.
    Cheers!

My criteria for a boat bike is that I need to lift it onboard. I couldn't find a light enough e-bike so ended up with a human powered folder instead. I found a nearly new Caribee back pack for $5 at a garage sale.

I like the bike, it reminds me of the old Puch Maxi moped that we had in Europe around 50 years ago. I wouldn't leave it unlocked outside a large shop in England, it would disappear into the back of somebody's van faster than you could say "thieving b@$♧@/d".

Alan does this company have a folding option that would allow you to possibly stow it below deck? It would be great in a port of call to have readily accessible land transportation for restoring your provisions👍you could keep it powered by your solar no need for gasoline… stay safe and sound with this Hurricane Lee heading your way!

I’d say play it safe and stay on the east coast down to the Caribbean. By the time you get to the Caribbean you’ll know how WR2 handles in adverse conditions. Tackling the Atlantic will be the final stretch of your circumnavigation and she’ll be well seasoned and ready to handle it. Wishing you the best and am looking forward to follow WR2 on her journey.

Looking at the weather maps. Fighting down the coastal waters is pretty much as bad as crossing in the deep blue.
Two hurricanes and an undecided low coming up behind them. He could go up through the straight past Newfoundland and use the northern winds to the UK but he would have the same problem going south to the Azores. All the small British sailors are stuck right now as well. Best to make the boat comfortable and wait for the weather to decide where he is going. Coastal waters can be more dangerous than deep water. I suspect getting killed on the e-bike running stop signs will kill him before the ocean does.

I live in France and have owned a Kalkhoff Agattu e-bike for 7 years and 7800km. In Europe and the UK a bike like the one you have just tested would have to be plated and insured. The vast majority of e-bikes are pedal assist i.e. the motor is only activated when you are putting some effort into the pedals . There is no mode where you can just use a “throttle” to drive the bike. There is also, by law, a maximum speed that you can attain of 25 kph after which the motor cuts out. This makes the bike much more of an effective exercise machine but you still get assistance with hills. I am 80 years old and hope to continue riding for many years to come. I must say I enjoy watching you build and sail Wave Rover much more than watching you buzz around on an electric bike. I owned an Albin Ballad for 25 years and have cruised extensively on both sides of the English Channel.

the sponsors who push these on the youtubers really neglect telling the youtubers about the regulations and then the influencer gets backlash as they follow the script provided that ignores local regulations.. I have seen this happen with several youtubers in the past 6 months.
also the phrasing "my favorite of 2023" or similar is part of the provided suggested phrasing. basically the ebike sellers prey on the youtubers to tempt them to get them to advertise and to advertise in a way and advertise a product they couldn't just import into a country and put on regular sale with the info they can make the youtuber say....

@@lasskinn474 I feel that people like Alan who is a genuine solid bloke don’t really have their heart in it when promoting products. I appreciate that it is a valuable source of funds but it detracts from what they’re really good at. At least he’s not promoting green vitamin powder !

I believe this e-bike is street legal as en E-bike (without the need of plated insurance) in the Netherlands (EU), it is legally sold here as well. Being sturdy and having big wheels is not what makes it illegal. The assisting power is max 250W and it's only assisting when you pedal up to 25km/h, but these may be localized configurations.

    • @lasskinn474
      @lasskinn474 11 місяців тому

      @@dutchhank importers modify them.
well actually himway seems to sell it as 250w into uk for example. the global site is 750w 25mph.
the unlocked version of course feels a lot better than any local ebikes do in regards of power.
honestly the most annoying thing about the whole thing is knowing the same phrases and words repeat in the 'make it sound organic' reviews of 'favorite bike'. they get even more annoying if it's the 5th favorite ebike in 6 months!

Looks like it will be something for when your adventure is over. Looks nice and sturdy (aka heavy). Doesn’t look like it folds. Doesn’t look like something that is gonna go in the boat. Looks like a great option for landlubbers or people with bigger boats and dinghies.
Question, do you have a bike for the boat? If so, at some point would to see how you stow it and get it to shore if not at a Marina.

How are you carrying that on the boat? Wouldnt a folding ebike be more practical? I had a Rad folding on my last boat but loading that heavy bike into my dinghy was just too much. If I ever, did it again, I would go with something smaller, lighter, manageable.

A Tim Horton's sponsorship seems like a good idea. How is getting the e-bike on and off the boat? You are definitely going to need a sturdy lock and chain. Between Margot and Lee, it looks like you may be waiting a while for the Azores. When does storm season usually end? I'm just looking at the wind maps and it looks like it would be sailing into the wind any way you look at it with these two hurricanes spinning everything in the wrong direction.

I'd never take a cheap e-bike or e-scooter on a boat. so many of the Chinese batteries randomly explode into a fireball that can't be put out. it would burn a boat and possibly sink the boat or kill me... so, whatever battery i use will be from that company louis rossman keeps talking about because they actually don't cut corners in manufacturing of the batteries. I'm open to a Chinese bike, just not a Chinese battery. and that himiway bike isn't built to take other brands of batteries, so there is zero chances I'd consider it for it's body. looks too heavy to lift on and off a boat and or dinghy anyways.
