I agree with you and love mine. Everyone has an opinion but for me, Black Widows click all the boxes. Me and my boys each own one. Cheers from the States!

Superior bows and bow builders for sure. I got my Black Widow weapon in 2007. PSAX Osage with Kingwood limbs 70@31.5". 850-1000+ grain arrows blow up everything I hit.

i bought a used psa that was a bit short for me , still the best bow i ever shot. Sadly it was broken in the limbs, but i fell in love and am now waiting for my custom build bow.
The X in the PSA is for Exotic Woods, they cost a bit more then the standard models.

My buddy in our club here in Perth Australia, has a BW that he got a couple of years back. I've shot it and it feels OK, but I think nothing better than my ILF recurve with carbon/bamboo limbs. However, I must say the finish is much nicer on the BW and it looks a million dollars The very disappointing thing is that he has literally had to post it back to the States 6 times for different problems. First time the tiller was all wrong and kept changing. Second time one of the limbs snapped in half. Third time there was a big crack in the other limb. I forget what the other times were, but he's just got it back the sixth time of having to send it away. My bow is a cheap Win and Win knock-off bow that's probably spat out in a cookie cutter factory, somewhere in the slums of Asia. However, I've had zero issues with it and it shoots as well as the day I got it. My same mate has some Bear bows, Predator, and some other custom bows from the States. He said the draw and feel of my bow is equally as good as his top bows. Here in Australia to land a BW over here now with customs, exchange rate, rip-off rates of freight from the States etc, will cost between 2.5 and 3K. I really think in archery there is a spot where you get to where there are diminishing returns on spending loads of money. One has to decide if they can be happy with a cheap Asian bow that costs under 500 bucks, shoots 95% as well as something that will cost them six times as much. I've gotten to that point and decided that near enough is good enough for me.

      Yep you are right.
Most cheap bows especially these days shoot just as nice as most customs.
But. They don’t look any good.
And it’s not some person with a small shop will workers that have rights etc that are making it.
I think until you have made your own bows. Which I have.
If I charged per hour what most trades would charge your looking at a very very expensive bow.
The other thing which I find weird is that people will always seem to complain about how much a custom bow costs yet they will buy a rifle. But a compound etc which is literally only touched by a machine.
Yet people will hand over 3k+ for a compound.
If you’re happy to spend $500 on a bow that’s is made in a factory than go for it. But I’m sorry. Traditional archery for me at least and for most isn’t about performance.
I shoot my bow every day.
So say a custom bow is 3k.
      It’ll last me 10 years.
So that’s only 80c a day for a hobby that keeps me very happy.
Let alone the bow can be passed down to my kids.

I have a black widow PMA ironwood , I, I get 182 FPS Out of my 50 pound bow with 500 grain arrows.. I have a 32" draw which gives me that speed.I shoot Black Eagle Deep impact arrows 34"long. Most arrows aren't long enough for my draw length. Happy hunting mate

They sure do advertise the most. I finally bought a PMAX 46# and it was nice. Shot it for a few years and sold it. It was the slowest custom bow I owned in the 45-50# range. About 163-166 average for 500 grain arrow @46#. I sold mine and bought new limbs for my Bob Lee.

    • @australianbushcraftandhunt6123
      @australianbushcraftandhunt6123  Рік тому +2

I haven’t seen too many bows that actually shoot very fast. When they go on the chrono with the same shooter it’s all simililar enough for me not to care. But free speed is still a good thing. But not something I will hunt for.
I live in Australia. We only have a few custom bowyers. So it’s hard here. As we don’t have many people that shoot the American bows etc. so you can only buy off reputation etc.
I’ve heard bob lees are great shooters. I don’t care for the looks though. I also like the look of stalker stickbows. He seems to make a real nice bow too and his reputation seems very good.
Over the next year I’ll be making a lot more bows. My new shed just went up. So I’ve got good space to build stuff.

I OWN SEVERAL CUSTOM RECURVES, TWO BLACKTAILS 62" AND 56" THEY ARE OUTSTANDING! A BIGHORN 60" FROM MID 80s, MADE FOR ME. I AVOIDED BLACK WIDOW CO. WHICH IS 2 HOURS SOUTH OF ME. BECAUSE I FELT THEY ARE QUALITY BUT ALL IDENTICAL. ALL THAT HAS CHANGED. I'M PLANNING TO ORDER A BLACK WIDOW 56" THEY ARE MAKING REALLY NICE CUSTOM, STUFF NOW DAYS.

For me they are like apple products. you pay for the name. They are quality, but not for the price. They are less custom and more mass produced. For less than half of the cost of one I have a bowyer who I trust and talk with throughout the process that builds absolutely beautiful customs.

One day I will get a widow when I'm a little better and can afford it,. Only just getting back to it.
They are sexy bows, I would also like a Aussie made bow but haven't came across one yet.

I bought a brand new one for my birthday and white spots starting showing up on my limbs. Sent them back , got some new ones and same thing, sent em back , got some new ones and the same thing. They didn’t want to fix them anymore so I got a refund. So good luck .

Don’t know when this happened for you. But they had a bad run recently. They had a bad batch of glue. Lots of people where affected. And multiple bowyers where affected.
Hope you have found a new bowyer to get a nice custom from mate.
I also make my own bows too. We are doing a video soon of my son making his first custom longbow.

I used to have two Black Widows. In my opinion they are over price for what those bows offer to you as a bowhunter. Now I own Caribow Taiga, the best bow I have ever shoot, but everybody got different tast. I am glad you love your bow, that what matter.

    • @australianbushcraftandhunt6123

Just looked the caribow bows up.
They look nice. Price difference is minimal though. It was 1200 for a takedown recurve. A widow is 1400.
Just like here in Australia. A custom bow costs are up there too.
Once you have made a bow yourself. You realise that these prices are very reasonable.
Don’t know what you mean by over priced for what they offer you as a bowhunter.
I’ll be doing more videos of other bows soon. Also I’ll be doing a few more videos on making custom bows.

1200$ cad vs 1400$ us, Taiga is faster, quieter and much more pleasure to shoot, at least for me. I am not saying Black Widow is not good bow, just from my own experience I can say, the Widow is over price and for same money or less you can have better bow. But if you enjoying to shot your Widow, that what is matter👍

Looks definitely matter. If you only want performance you’d shoot an ilf rig with all the bows and whistles.
