The crud groove is not for "mudery stuff" or high speed low-drag applications. Its a fuller, a common weight reduction method mainly seen on fixed blades. Its works in a similar fashion to construction steel beams, the ones shaped like an H. Anyway... probably it is here just for aesthetic purposes, and to mix Apple Juice and Motor Oil of course.
+Sir Galahad Yep, but I have trouble seeing it as a fuller when it's that small. The weight reduction seems tiny, especially compared to going with a fuller-flatter grind.
Dauntless is the best pocket knife in any configuration. I own many dauntlesses, and I’ll end up purchasing many more. I kinda have a dauntless issue. I buy every one I come across that’s for sale. I really enjoy your videos and reviews. They are great. Just don’t agree on this one. There’s no identity crisis here. They knew exactly what they were going for and did it. These knives are great. That’s why they sell out in minutes when a new one drops, and barely ever pop up on the secondary market. And when they do, they are significantly more $$$ than they initially cost. In my opinion, nothing beats a dauntless as far as folders go. It is the perfect midtech-custom design. You should try out the full titanium version of this dauntless. I think you’d really enjoy that blade. And the points you spoke on about this dauntless don’t exist with the titanium version.
Thanks for a thorough review as always. I've had buyer's remorse about this guy ever since I got it but your commentary makes me feel way better about my purchase.
So am I! Every time I see one for sale, I'm remarkably close to buying, but then I remember the blade shape and talk myself back down. Big hopes for Mk5!
Great review Fantastic knife ,like the color ,great materials .I can understand the raised part of the back of the blade,it's to get that thumb stud in the right spot to open so sweet..I totally agree about that silly grove . Australian dollar is to low at the moment for me it makes it well out of my range but if I did have one it would be my pride and joy..Thanks for sharing..
I love my Dauntless, only issue I really have is the clip. It forms a hot spot right in the meat of my palm and I'd prefer it if it had a standard clip for that reason alone. Otherwise.. it's awesome
Yeah, I'm with you on the clip...other than that I Love my MK4. Crazy friggin fast, fastest thumb stud knife I have ever owned...With about a 15.5 deg. bevel mine is a great slicer.....not perfect, but it's not meant to be...
Oh, I know all about it, but I'm doing my best to stay out of the knife drama. But it's very tempting, especially as a warning about makers who we *know* are problematic.
Bwuaaahaaa! $350.00? No thanks, I just bought Ganzo G741-1CF-WS with Carbon Fiber scales for $20.00. I put my real money into my high end fixed blade knives.
I would argue with you on your half G10 half titanium point. Just look at most Cold Steel knives: all G10 handles and still considered some of, if not the, strongest knives in the world.
It's plenty strong, but it still seems like an odd choice to make. And also, Cold Steel is the company testing their knives most often. But don't underestimate other well-made knives.
Their also the type of people that would call things we all know as kraton and kydex "Tuff-Ex" and "Kra-Ex". Or name their knives ridiculous things like "Man Killer", "Bone Crusher", or even something as ridiculous as "Broken Skull"... Wait a second. *face palm*
I'd say the fact that they make the knife with ambi thumb studs but don't allow for the pocket clip to be reversed for left hand carry is very UGLY. I HATE it when knife makers do this. It's like they're just teasing the lefties when they do that!
nick, im just curious if you ever picked up one? I made the same decision, Had a buddie lone me one, asked if I wanted to buy it and I passed. 3 months later I own 2...lol
Just bagged a black one through TAD.

yes.. thinner stock would be a smarter solution.

"Crud Groove" - great name for a band. Smart review as always.
I like how the groove looks lol😂
Thanks for a thorough review as always. I've had buyer's remorse about this guy ever since I got it but your commentary makes me feel way better about my purchase.
Thanks for the great review. I have been on the fence about this knife for awhile.
So am I! Every time I see one for sale, I'm remarkably close to buying, but then I remember the blade shape and talk myself back down. Big hopes for Mk5!

Some simple designs can be very attractive, I could carry that knife for edc, no problem, I dig the od green, my weakness...
Be careful you don't have too much military green. You don't want to... OD! :D

nice looking knife, but $350 seems a little ridiculous. great review!
that "groove" is called a fuller. and yeah, i agree it is dumb
Bone simple is evolving! Congratulations, it has turned into rock simple!
Teflon bearings? Liiioonnstteeell!
Wow, I really like this knife, I mean I'm not buying one anytime soon, but still.
Hope they make one slightly smaller & lighter w/ a full grind. I loved the looks but found it to be a bit useless cutter.
Hi Nick, Very good review, and congrats on going over 2K subscribers.
Hey, thanks, glad you enjoyed!
Cut open one motor oil bottle as a funnel for the rest of the oil! Why haven't I ever tried that before?! Thanks!
love that knife!!
Curious, Nick, do you know about the controversy surrounding Mick Strider?
I'd love to see you do a video on it.
Oh, I know all about it, but I'm doing my best to stay out of the knife drama. But it's very tempting, especially as a warning about makers who we *know* are problematic.
Nick Shabazz That's understandable, but you've made swings at some crusaders already ;) I think you're in knee deep already.
Hah. Could well be. But no sense angering more tacticians!
Q: *Anyone else notice the Knife section is no longer on the TAD website?*
I was going to buy an MK4 a couple days ago & they were no longer listed.
When they do release them they sell out in seconds. They did drop some G10 and full Ti versions around the end of January though.
Very cool knife! :)
Get the full titanium version and you no longer have a knife with an identity crisis. Great knife in any configuration.
Give me a full flat & I'm all in.

Its a good looker but 350$ ehh maybe if both handles were titanium id consider it
Nick, Where are the copper scales on your PM2?
+gonshocks Too heavy. But for sale!
One of the best features of the PM2 is the light weight. But those copper scales look good.
They did indeed!
You usually use US quarters for weight measure. How many pennies would those scales be?
A crap-ton of pennies.
Don't mess up the pocket clip because you cannot get another one.
I had one of the Sibert-designed versions of this knife and I lost it on the Rifle River. 😳
Interesting thoughts. I can see the points !!! I am waiting on the SNG review. I am sure i know where that review will go. Lol
+olmmedic July 2nd: A Date that will live in Infamy (for Strider fans)

Don't really think Cold Steel uses G10. They're more GRIVORY type people.

this is a TAD off topic... lol, but I just saw how much those Graham Razel flippers go for and now I want to cry my self to sleep
haha, "High-Speed-Low" drag show! I'm imagining military guys wearing camouflaged ball gowns and high heeled combat boots.
That's precisely the image I was going for.
I'd say the fact that they make the knife with ambi thumb studs but don't allow for the pocket clip to be reversed for left hand carry is very UGLY. I HATE it when knife makers do this. It's like they're just teasing the lefties when they do that!
Hey, talkin' IS hard!
It's nice but I couldn't justify paying 350 for it . the blade is a deal breaker for me m
Nick, has your voice gotten deeper in the last year? Something about your voice has definitely changed.
I purchased this knife. It’s the single most boring knife I’ve ever owned. Fail in my book.
So on tactical level, really good. In EDC/office use it has some bad things too.
Yep, that about covers it. Although for true tactics, I feel like I'd want a flipper or auto deployment.
Why are you not a voice actor for video games?
+Daniel Evans Because nobody's asked yet!
In the flesh. You do know that that knife is not alive right? Lol
nick, im just curious if you ever picked up one? I made the same decision, Had a buddie lone me one, asked if I wanted to buy it and I passed. 3 months later I own 2...lol
Damn you sure like to nit pick on the smallest things
