I started my dog life with beagles. We hunted a lot of hares. Great fun but the shooting was in brush. Very different from where you shoot. The hare population has gotten scarce in many areas of the province. Coyotes changed the game and hunting beagles are few and far between.Thanks for the video.
I,m hunting with Beagles in the north of Scandinavia. Indeed a totally different hunt but in my opinion more exiting, especially in winter time when the hare is white. More south i would not hunt anything with a dog because there is a big risk dogs will be killed by wolves. Cheers!

I dont hunt A lot of hares, but fun to show something else. do you have the same type of hare? or snow? dont know anybody that hunts with beagles, so if you dont mind me asking, how does it work with the beagles? they bark, chase, flush them out? have A Nice weekend
@@HoltanMedia Maybe i can also explain how we do hunt hare: We release a Beagle and it will find the hare track and will follow the track till it find the hare. The dog has an GPS collar and the hunter has a hand hold unit with map showing the dog , track, and has a bark indicator. In my case a Garmin Alpa 100 set. More dogs can also be used at the same time and all dogs ar shown on the hand hold unit. We hear on the type of barking and the amount of barks if the dog is hunting the hare (60-80 barks a minute) or is still searching for one (baks now and then). Than what is left to take an strategical position to shoot the hare while passing. The nordic hare is going mostly same turns whole time but are very clever and try to fool the dog by going back in it's own track and make a big jump off the track. De dog wil circle until he found the track again. It's an totally different way of hunt. We hunt the same way with roe deer and foxes. The Garmin set is great and you'll find always your dog if something should happen. Of coarse this way of hunting is only possible in unpopulated area's with no roads an traffic. The hare can make several km. turns in it's own track. Cheers!
@@HoltanMedia We have varying hare. We do not have cottontail rabbits. Our hare usually circle back to where they were initially jumped. Beagles track and push the hare while baying. This gives the hunter an idea as to where the hare is. You can then intercept the hare or wait for it to circle. When I hunted hare, I lived where there were smaller woods. The hare circled well due to the restrained habitat. These same woods are now void of hares. Coyotes are one of the reasons. Coyotes were rare 45 years ago. In large woods a hare can just leave and the dog goes with it. A hunting beagle is almost impossible to call off the track. Hunting hares became hunting for your dog! I bought my first dog, a beagle, at the age of 12. Parents were not thrilled. I bought another (so I would have 2) at the age of 18. My father didn't know we had 2 dogs for a couple of weeks.He would only see one dog at a time! My hunting was ducks/geese in the morning and hares in the afternoon. Four times a week until the ducks were gone and then it was hares until the end of February. My friends got beagles once they hunted with mine. Good times and great exercise!
@@rapalaron6348 Exciting is right. The baying of the dogs and the looking for movement. Coyotes are a real danger to beagles now. In the large woods I roam in now wolves would be a danger but so would lynx, fisher and getting lost.

@HoltanMedia All good here. Our waterfowl season has started, so have been out a couple of times and also the quail season is now open and I have only shot one bird.

Mooie video’s. Prachtig om de Drentse Patrijs te zien jagen. Heerlijk om met je maatje(s)zo aan het werk te zijn. Wij hebben ook een Drent. Inmiddels alweer 5 jaar. Wij ‘jagen’ met dummies. En passen de jachtprincipes en oefeningen op onze eigen manier toe. Cosmo vindt het fantastisch. Leergierig en altijd in voor ons eigen ‘jachtseizoen’ ❤
