Ancient Rome was originally an Italic settlement dating from the 8th century BC that grew into the city of Rome and which subsequently gave its name to the empire over which it ruled and to the widespread civilisation the empire developed. The Roman empire expanded to become one of the largest empires in the ancient world, though still ruled from the city, with an estimated 50 to 90 million inhabitants and covering 5.0 million square kilometres at its height in AD 117.
Ancient Roman civilisation has contributed to modern government, law, politics, engineering, art, literature, architecture, technology, warfare, religion, language and society. Rome professionalised and expanded its military and created a system of government called res publica, the inspiration for modern republics such as the United States and France. It achieved impressive technological and architectural feats, such as the construction of an extensive system of aqueducts and roads, as well as the construction of large monuments, palaces, and public facilities.
By the end of the Republic (27 BC), Rome had conquered the lands around the Mediterranean and beyond: its domain extended from the Atlantic to Arabia and from the mouth of the Rhine to North Africa. The Roman Empire emerged with the end of the Republic and the dictatorship of Augustus Caesar. 721 years of Roman-Persian Wars started in 92 BC with their first war against Parthia. It would become the longest conflict in human history, and have major lasting effects and consequences for both empires. Under Trajan, the Empire reached its territorial peak. Republican mores and traditions started to decline during the imperial period, with civil wars becoming a prelude common to the rise of a new emperor. - Розваги
Metatron, since you are Sicilian and interested in English history, I’m surprised you haven’t done an episode on the Norman ruled Kingdom of Sicily. I think we would all be interested in this little known part of history.
Johny Ricco good topic Let's all like this comment so he'll see it!
Johny Ricco Absolutely agree ! Normans were some proper badasses and more people oughta know about them
TheAtmosfear7 I was always impressed by the normans when I read about them. From conquering the anglo saxon kingsom to going on adventures and expeditions in sicily and southern italy and waging wars with the byzantines
But those Normans weren't English, they were French.
Ser Zippy not quite. When the scandinavians settled normandy there were already people living there: the franks and gallo-romans. The scandinavians integrated and adopted local culture, customs, religion and language. This created an unique blend which are called the normans
*ROMA INVICTA intensifies*
Incrediiibiliis !
So... technically the legionaires were professional walkers?
And post Gaius Julius Caesar, could they be refered to as *Imperial Walkers?*
*obnoxiously starts blasting SW music*
Well, they have leg in their name.
Booooooo! SHAME! SHAME!
the empire was founded 17 years after Caesar's death
White Walkers.
Next time some director has the bright idea to do another Roman era movie or a TV show, they ought to call you and the Legio XX as advisers and stuntmen (in the sense of you marching in formation and leading other actors to better perform their roles in the Legion).
If you want an accurate representation of the professional Roman army you don't hire some enthusiastic amateur cos-players. A smart director would get Metatron as the historical adviser and a team of actually trained, disciplined and fit people to represent the Roman soldiers, like an actual army unit or some kind of sports team.
The only tv series on Rome that got the battle tactics of the legion right was simply called Rome the HBO series, the first battle scene was so accurate with proper formation and soldiers being disciplined if they broke rank
You should take the legio xxi rapax. They know what they are doing because they have years of Experience and work together with historians
they won't though, because they don't give a shit about historical accuracy
There is a couple of reinactement team around europe who are really active. But in a case of a TV show, it would be better to use them as consultants.
Seems like you're mobilizing a new legion. Do you plan on liberating Italy and reestablishing the Empire or republic? If so, may Mars be with you on your conquest!

Hey Bismarck!
first, we italians need to reclaim our identity as Italic and Hellenic peoples.
PULLO!!! Single formation!
Get back in formation you drunken fool!
RacinZilla003 is that it? I was just beginning to enjoy myself.
Ah, you are a man of culture
@Petey
He was a real person too. As was lucius.
Titus pullo and lucius vorenus were apparently the only two soldiers on caesar's gailec campaign to be personally named/ identified from messages back to Rome. That is why they are named such.
@@fishyc150 Сenturions... They was centurions both.
Nice video! One thing I've noticed is your helmets are very loose. The group I am with find the best way to tie it is to firmly tie the thong to the ring on the neck guard, one end will come to the left and one side to the right of your head. The left one should then be passed through the ring on the right hand cheek piece, whilst the right end goes through the ring on the left cheek piece. You can then pull tight and tie in a bow - the helmet will stay put this way and allow you to run etc without it banging on your head or the cheeks flapping!
Thanks!
"Legio aeterna! Aeterna victrix!"
Invicta sends his regards
Thanks!
I've seen enough Game of Thrones to know where this is going...

Indeed he was. In Rome! Here in Egypt he was only a foreigner. Like a slave. So he died like a slave.

That's some gorgeous 4K footage.

Metatron for your next vid how about you do a scene of the Roman Senate where you give a speech entirely in Classical Latin? 👌
Nice Latin.
They are italians
MJB are you dumb?
Are you kidding? The roman pronunciation is way off and all over the place. Sometimes I think he pronounces it this bad as a joke to see if all you idiots will say anything.
@@Ed-wt3jn can you elaborate this?
@@imurt3417 the way he pronounces lorica with an Italian accent. And Pugio as pughio etc. He's awful.
Invicta says hi 😃
Hi :)
I saw Oakley’s video about singing on the march. Glad you guys will be working together on some stuff.
Excellent video and one of my favourites yet. The wonderful videography and effort does not go unnoticed.
Thanks!
I just finished reading Gallic Wars. These men were incredible. 20 miles of march and then battle, witch they won. Just incredible.
My friend of germanic descend finds this really triggering xD
Those 8 dislikes are probably from gauls lol
I somehow doubt that
ale Solís Lol why is that funny.
Runok 785 just making it look like if the gauls were "haters"
ale Solís Gauls are celtic you asshat. Reeeeeeeeee
Dib still they are gauls regardless reeeeeeeee
Impressive video Metatron
Thanks!
If you can speak (even in the responses) about the Bar Kokhba rebellion against the Romans I would be happy
Well done, dude. A series like this would make UA-cam Red viable (a feat so far, only Cobra Kai has really achieved). Too bad they have their sticks up their asses about weapons and historical events. I would honestly like to see it on there with a bit more production put in, and more money for our beloved Metatron.
Loved this. Keep it up.

Your channel captivates me because of your unique approach to history. Many videos talk about history, but you immerse me in it. Your greetings in full Roman gear and speaking Latin, to beautiful shots of your gear beside you, all help me understand on a much deeper and personal level.
Well done bro :)))))) Roma invicta 💪💪
We need a video of just you guys marching and chanting. That would be amazing.
2:55 slip tho lol
This was very interesting. Thank you to all, including your extras, for making this content.
I was wondering when a new video was coming out, and needless to say I was not disappointed. Good work as always Metatron!!
Great video, meta!
May your legion grow!!
this video is an absolute masterpiece!! WELL DONE
The cinematography was spot on, one of your most epic videos!
Great clip. Top quality. And as for the soldiers. Great reenactment. Kudos and - thanks for posting.
Daaamn the production values of thos channel are better and better
Thanks!
Very nice of you to present your troopers.
Really enjoyed this, thank you!
you bring history to life my friend
A great video and well polished. Many thanks!
Absolutely fantastic video.
It amazes me how fit in combatics and engineering/logistics these people were.
So aspirational, I still cant puzzle my mind of the sheer logistics, even with our fancy total war tools.
Superb quality, much better than anything presented in History channels nowadays.
This is another level!!! Congratulations Metatron!
That's really cool to kind of see what a roman legion would have looked like ! And it was really well done :D !
bellissimo documentario.
Grazie Raffaello
The UA-camr we need, not the one we deserve

I didnt know that romans actually invented blue sneakes! Anyway, awesome video! I really enjoyed it
... *Beautiful* work sir. ❤
Amazing video and wonderful explanation, absolutely astonishing.
Meraviglioso video metatron, veramente un superbo lavoro, le faccio i miei migliori complimenti.
What a great video! I remember when you used to make videos everyday, that truly was a fantastic period! Great job again Raf!😀
I reduced the volume and increased quality :) This video took 5 days in the making
Another great video!
great video as ever
The video looks really good
I Love Roma!
Saudações do BRASIL!!!
Thanks for sharing 👌
The quality is amazing.
I'm reading a series of Roman murder mysteries. Your information has really helped me 'see' the action. Thanks so much!
What a nice video!, congratz for your work, regards from Chile :)
Awesome! An upload from Invicta, and Metatron on the same day!
I have a suggestion for a future army vs army video. I think you should do a Japanese army from the Sengoku Jidai period (pre black powder of course.) vs the Roman legions, or perhaps a Mongol army under Subatai or Genghis Khan.
roma invicta that gives me the chills
Muy buen video, las marchas romanas, cánticos, formaciones e instrucciones eran necesarias para mantener el oden y la disciplina al máximo
Nice video. I thought you stopped uploading. This video is the first one that has shown up for me in a long time in my subscription box.
Excelente video
thanks for doing this.. thank you
It's a little over a year later and I just came across your channel. I love Roman history especially its military. I think I'll stick around. Subscribed.
Awesome as usual! :D
My 3 year old son loves your channel! He wants to say Hi!
Caesar's Legion flashbacks intensify
Alright, I have been wanting to say this for a while, and idk if anyone knows what "Knightfall" is, but it is a history channel show, about the crusades. In that show there is a character by the name of "Draper" and he looks exactly like Metatron if Metatron was older. I mean, he has the long hair like Metatron had, he is the more intellectual Templar like Metatron would be, and he is the only Templar that speaks different languages just like Metatron. I mean, it's a perfect fit. If you want to know what Draper looks like, look up "Draper Knightfall" then go to images. He is wearing a black surcoat with a Red Cross in the center. You'll know him when you see him. Like to let Metatron know.
Holy shit he really does.
This was awesome
PLEASE any directors making a movie on ancient Rome, please hire these guys
I got such a nerd-gasm from this 😂😍😂😍😂😍😍😂
Love it very informative.
Great video 💪
Those supplies are so solid that it makes modern historical nerds look like they could (at least) stand their ground?
It’s so hard to get humans to work together effectively, that even (relatively) simple levels of organization. Like the Roman army. Is considered a marvel by most of humanity.
Ajajja love the soldier whos wearing blue sportshoes xD i just imagined the enemy would be like "damn dude check out those Nikes xD
I know you from my other channel I did many searches to find you, it was kind of hard :(
I remember your chant of how roma eterna should of sounded omg!😍

i think i saw a video or a portrait once where a horse and cart was ridden over the testudo...just ....cking amazing really...good work met m8
Great videos metatron !
Very well done! So much better than those History Channel documentaries! ;)
If you ever get enough people, and the permission, you should try constructing a (small) Roman marching fort, I'd love to see that attempted. That's probably the one thing that amazes me the most about the Roman Legions and doesn't get enough mention is their ability to go a full day's march and then throw up a fort at the end of the march before settling down for the night.
belle prestation
They may not have kit, Raph, but they have Spirit. And there are more men with kit and no spirit in the world than men with spirit. Which is better? ;)
Yes, 12 bottles sir
Depends... If i was in a war i would rather have a shield than spirit lol.
I've been following you since you had 55k subs. It's been quite a long journey :P
That intro was epic.
