To me, a bound brim edge makes the hat, and adds a subtlety and style few people understand. The folded and stitched brim edge (under or over) makes the brim edge look too heavy. Most people do not register the difference between a bound rim edge, and a folded edge, they see the hat as an overall 'statement', Harrison Ford, Humphrey Bogart, or whoever, but are little more than a cheap fashion accessory, like socks or scarves. I started my hat journey at a market in Amsterdam where I discovered a stall selling vintage hats, and soon realised that their quality and craftsmanship was (almost) a thing of the past. You guys give me hope that all is not lost. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. Excellent, simple and direct explanation of the different brim edge options.
thanks Peter for keeping our knowledge hats well fitted and comfortable for learning! Happy Tuesday Hornskov! 😉
