Undefeated comment
The chords are so colorful I love this song. I especially love the B Maj 9 into the C major (add 2) and how the whole song is resolved with the A Maj 9. Great tutorial
I cant understand with that part especially, could u please explain to me how this chord works? since BMaj7 , C#Maj7 is 5th and 6th degree, which is can not be the maj7th in E diatonic. also the last G#7altered resolves into AM7 (start point of the loop). ..maybe the key change to B in last 4bars..?
@@hyowon3460 not a God damn clue this song made me start weekly lessons lol
@@hyowon3460 Hey man. If youre still interested i've analysed it in the comment section.
@@tilllanglo5316 Thank you so much for the explanation! been waiting for this one
This song being played at a slower pace is absolutely magnificent
Hey, for everyone thats wondering why this chord progression works i think i can analyse it:
So we have Amaj9 - D#7sus4 - C#7sus2 - Emaj6/9 - Bmaj9 - C#maj add9 - G#m9 - G#7 b13
First of all i think this tune is in B major so lets start with the second chord in roman numerals:
iii7sus4 - ii7sus2 - IV6/9 - I9 - IIadd9 (Lydian Model Interchange thats why its major) - vi9 - V/ii (alterd secondary Dominant that should resolve to C#minor7). Now why does it resolve at the the end/beginning to Amaj9 and not C#minor7 and still sound so beautiful?
Its because the Amaj9 is a chromatic mediant of C#minor7. They share 3 equal notes to one another thats why chromatic mediants work and sound so beautiful. You can find a similar chord progression where an altered dominant resolves up a halfstep to a major7 chord in the second and third bars of the jazz standard "someday my prince will come". Its really a beautiful sound. Also note that this song is actually a sample of Grant Greens "Maybe Tomorrow".

Damn, that's music theory if I've ever seen it
I think the fact that the E major pentatonic works over the changes makes me think it’s in E but who knows
The song isn't in any key in the first place. Its chopped together out of the original recording at various places. Its about what our ear makes out of it. And our ear clearly hears it as a functional progression. The IV (E) major pentatonic is diatonic as is the V major pentatonic. Listen to the Bmaj9 chord it sounds like a tonic, like coming home and resting. The reason we need to analyze is so we can play it in the other 12 keys and then get creative with it.
Anyway, thanks to Boom Bap Keys for the real work of transcribing it. 🙏@@julianlopez4917

Great job! Must be been a doozie to transcribe?
my hands hurt 😭
How the heck do people compose these?!!! This is coming from someone that knows little about music composition.... Do they just randomly stumble across these chords or is there a method to the madness?
Cool
I can learn most songs but I can’t do this my fingers don’t reach the correct notes without accidental clicking wrong keys 😂
thank you!!!!
