I wander if these light rail transet could be all electric using battery like you see on Tesla instead of runing on diesel or using overhead powerline.
These were built as diesel units first and foremost (and a pretty outdated model already) but the manufacturer that built these already have an order for similiar sized battery trains from the FLIRT family of trains (think TexRail in Forth Worth and the O train Trillium line in Ottawa) for use in Northern Germany, and potentially across the international border into Denmark.
@@drdewott9154 The current traction equipment consists of a Traktionssysteme Austria asynchronous generator (model no.: TGE 59-28-4), an ABB BORDLINE® CC750 DE IGBT power converter and two 300kW TSA asynchronous traction motors (model no.: TMF 50-29-4) each supported by a TSA gearbox (model no.: GMK 2-55-495B; gear ratio: 5.46:1).
yeah its just like how they say that trains on the yellow line go to antioch, even when they actually stop at pittsburgh/bay point and u have to change trains
@@BayAreaTransitNews but doesn’t that just make people confused, thinking that it goes to Antioch, only to realize it just goes to Pittsburg/Bay Point and having to switch?
@@calebreese2311 It could definitely be confusing for some, but BART probably thinks that that's better than treating it as a separate line and likely discouraging some from riding eBART in the process.
@@BayAreaTransitNews maybe. But they could treat it like how they treat the connection between SFO and millbrae and highlight it specifically between Bay Point and Antioch

It is strange how the sign mentions Millbrae SFO. Isn't common knowledge that one has to switch trains?
Yeah, BART really wants you to think of eBART and the rest of the Yellow Line as one line, even if there's a transfer separating the two.

I've just figured out that the voice of the eBART platforms is Microsoft Anna!
Great video
Nice!
