Dale you’re spot on with your information and ideas. That’s exactly why and how I trap when I do beaver removal for the state . I’ve always said any moron can get lucky and catch a beaver, but a true trapper can catch when, how and have him in where you want in the morning and in perfect condition. Keep it up Dale your doing great my friend.
I understand about the price increase. Everything I buy for the shop has went up. You gotta do what you gotta do to stay afloat. Keep up the good work Dale. Your videos have taught me a lot. Everything I know about trapping I’ve learned from UA-cam and just getting out in the field and doing it. You’re a big help to us nubes and experienced trappers as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Great video Dale. Here in PA we cannot use anything bigger than a 6.5 outside spread. I use the Bridger #3 offset trap and set for that front foot. I do have them on downers but have had times where they were sitting on bank. Have a BLESSED day and keep SHARING your PASSION
Dale another great video. You cleared up some questions I was wondering about. Thanks again and in the day and times we live in now I understand the price increases.
Thanks for the video Dale. I am one of those no pan tension guys. I have never minded catching the muskrats as they come over those crossovers. Sounds like I may need to give it some.more thought.
Based on the quality and consistency of your baits and lures, you should have probably raised your prices long before now. I doubt many people can say they have bought anything that hasn't went up in price the last couple of years. Thanks for another top-notch video Dale, great info as always!
Makes perfect sense Dale, I get it ,I've been using your method that the old timers used,I've had several misses and as soon as I raised my pan tension the misses stopped, as a basically weekend warrior I can't afford to miss,I watched you guys stack um up and for only running a few traps at a time I've managed to catch 16 in a couple of weeks, I know that ain't squat but for me,I'm tickled to death and being in ohio and not having many places with beaver, you've taught me to be effective and efficient, thanks brother for all your videos and people Dale knows what the heck he's talking about
Glad you noticed the no pan tension folks too ! Drives me insaine to see it ! I figured out a long time ago toe catches happen from light pans , and critters stepping over the jaws ! Good stuff !
#3 Bridgers are just an all around good trap. Versatile as it gets from coyotes to beaver. Been using them on both for years. Thanks for the video Dale!
Great advice! Thank you for sharing my friend! I just started beaver trapping and ordered Bridger #5s but have some Bridger #3s that I use for coyote so will use them too!!
Words of wisdom. TS 85s do well with high pan tension. I hold them in laminated 5 dls center swiveled with heavy pan. I'm not a 300 beaver a year man though
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 No your right, It works but you gotta remember what it is your trying to do,can't just through them out and expect the best.
I honestly don't believe they do that When working a set Ray. I catch 80% of them by the front foot. If they were carrying mud that catch rate wouldn't be possible. It also helps to keep the lure down low so he isn't rearing up on his back feet too. I appreciate you watching
I agree with you Dale. On the 650 and 850 they are to big and to much power. If I can't set the trap with my hands standing in the water . I don't use them. Just my opinion. Take care
Yea im not a fan of the mb 650 or the 750 either 1. The pan on both is 50% dead. Plus the low profile jaw on the 750 makes it inferior in my opinion. Thanks Bob
I think I heard you say one time that the bridger #3 only needs to be a 2 coil. Is that because the 4 coil is to help get the jaws up through the dirt when land trapping? I hear you say to use 10 feet of cain. What is the down side of using 8 or 6 feet of cain?Thank you for your insights on trapping.
If the traps are newer there's no reason the have them 4 coiled in my opinion Mark. And yea you can use 6-8 feet of chain just fine. I just like 10 ft. Johnny used 2 feet on number 2 northwoods. Craig O'Gorman used 18 ft on Newhouse 114s. Use whatever length you feel comfortable using. Thanks for watching
I can John yes. Send me a text at 319-217-0655 or message me on messenger and we can get you hooked right up. Thank you for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures. We appreciate you
Dale, I will be trapping beaver for the first time. Want to use this method. Where am I placing the trap to ensure front foot catches? As always thanks for the video.
The trap is placed about 6 inches back and offset so the loose jaw is in the center of the mound approximately 3 inches offset to the center of the pan Mitch. I have several videos in my beaver trapping playlist that explains this. If you have any other questions please ask and I'll try to answer. Thank you for watching
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531. Dale, tried to get back to you before you could reply. Yes sir, found your other videos on the topic, all questions answered. Thanks for creating these videos. I’m interested in purchasing a couple of lures for this trip, you mentioned 4 in another video; Iowa Silver, Swamp Master, Chips(?), Cyber Spray(?). I’ll be in southern Tennessee, November-December timeframe, what do you suggest I use and how do I go about purchasing them. Appreciate all that you do.
Mitch I make 4 different beaver lures. Iowa silver is a castor based curiosity type lure. Same with Cypress Breaks. Swamp master smells like a rank ol beaver when you throw one up on the skinning rack. And chips will flat upset a beaver terribly. You can call me to order at 319-217-0655 or you can order from Cumberland's Northwest Trapper Supply. They are online
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 Thanks for the reply and info on the lure. I know Cumberland’s well, their catalog is on my bench. I have some hardware to purchase, I’ll get the lure then. Big fan, great videos; I’m learning something from every one and a better trapper thanks to you.
@Billingsley Brand trapping Lures 10-4 you made good sense about the trap. I use mb750 traps. But i want to try new traps. I just want to make sure I get the right trap
Great perspective on jaw height!! And pan tension, I do use the bridger #3 and target front foot.I also use same trap on otter would 5lbs also be correct?
I've used them both ways Gary and see no advantages or disadvantages either way. If your traps are in good shape 2 coils are fine. If the have some age on them I'd recommend 4 coiling them. I appreciate you watching
when you hold those beaver alive how long of a chain do you run and how many swivels do you have on them. is there any brand or size of long spring you can get by using for your method of beaver trapping? Also where can i get ahold of you to get some baits and lures?
Ben I run 10 ft of chain or 1/8 inch cable. There are long springs that you can use with this method on front feet. Back feet yes, front feet NO!! Ben you can hit me on messenger or call me at 319-217-0655. Thank you
Thanks for the info. I have a few drowned set ups but would be able to set a lot more if I hold them alive. You may have mentioned this already, but why do you prefer to hold them alive?
The biggest reason I do it Brad is to release non target otters. The Iowa DNR in its infinite wisdom closes otter season Jan 31. While our beaver season runs through April 15. Plus they won't raise the limit on them from 3 per license. So I release them rather than giving the DNR the opportunity to sell them after I work to catch them
Ed if you're getting along with them and not drowning your beaver then that's great man. I'm just trying to head off some problems that guys may encounter. Thanks for watching

Duke 650 is the biggest I use period. Everything else just seems like over kill to me. Took a 65# beaver and held just fine
I've not tried the duke 650 yet. Hard for me to get away from the bridger 3s. Thanks for watching Drew
Dale, How do you deal with a beaver carrying mud to your caster sets? He’s carrying mud with his front feet under his chin.

Thanks Dale, great content! But on trap placement am I correct on nine inches back and off set in less than five inches of water?
Yes Edgar. 7-9 back I offset about 3 inches 4-6 inches of water over the pan
On the trap u are talking about is it the dogless trap. Or could you show the exact trap for the beavers

I use disposable stakes Tim. Just shove it in the bank
I use mostly pogos with a few Berkshire stakes too
