Stitch North was wonderful!!! There were such diversity of stitching styles, projects it was beautiful to see, and it was so nice to talk to the stitchers about their projects, so interesting. My biggest goose bumps happened when Caroline ask the stitchers, who were at their first stitching retreat to please stand up and to see most of the room stand up was just amazing. We needed this stitchy weekend!!
Hi Maryse! You're absolutely right about the goose bumps and I'm so happy you mentioned it here. I had the same reaction! A weekend like this was long overdue and can't wait for the next one. Cheers!
Ryan it was great to meet you and sit with a welcoming group of people. 🥰 Thank you for the shout out and wonderful words of praise!🤗 I can't wait to see your Verdigris Four de Lis. BTW, Weeks Dye Works Mermaid is very similar to Timber Yarns Tequila colorway. 😉 I registered for Stitch North 2022 and hope to see you then!
Oooo thanks for the tip about the WDW Mermaid. I'll definitely be adding to cart. And can't wait to see you again, too! It will be like a grand old reunion!
Umm HOW COOL that you made a bag with the same fabric as the loot bag project bag!! Loved hearing your thoughts on the retreat - I think it's so important to talk about that yes, it is really scary going somewhere where you know no one but then having the experience of feeling welcomed & being able to relate to every one due to our common love of stitching :) I'm so glad I got to meet you last weekend!!
It was great to finally meet you in person too!!! And yes, the fact that a craft could bring so many like-minded people together in this way is something I'll remember for a long time. Can't wait to see you at the next one!
Hi Ryan, it was a pleasure to watch your joy and enthusiasm. You were beaming and radiating such warmth and affection for your new friends. I’m happy for you. Thank you for another excellent video
Loved hearing about Stitch North. I am going in May next year. Kind of the same circumstances as you, going alone and a little shy and overwhelmed in larged groups. I'm going and very excited regardless of my shyness.
It really was. In fact, there was so much interest for next year's retreat, they'll be offering a choice of two weekends. Looking forward to it, especially when we've met so many great people.
How great it would be to just sit down with a cup of tea/coffee and discuss first retreats together. I was fortunate to have been a part of the Phoenix retreat in February (honored to have been stage manager for the show and tell Brenda and the Serial Starter video). It was such an incredible experience and you hit on many of those emotions in your video. What a community to be a part of! Your small scissor fob was gorgeous. Take care.
I'm not much of a commenter and very much more of a lurker, but I did want to say it was wonderful meeting you at Stitch North and hope to see you again next year.
Hi Ryan! My name is Margaret, and I am watching your Stitch North retreat recap while I am attending MY first stitching retreat in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We have the honor of working with Jeannette Douglas- your fellow Canadian designer. She is amazing, and I am having soooooo much fun. Thank you for sharing yourself and your experiences with us!! 😘🪡😘🪡😘🪡
Oh how wonderful!!!! Is this at the Silver Needle? I see people have been posting and sharing on Instagram. I'm so happy to hear you're having a great time. I would love to meet her one day, and maybe show her my teeny tiny mini-bouquet needle minder. She's so talented and inspiring! Hope you enjoy every single minute.
@@RyRyMcGuy Yes, it’s the Silver Needle, and it is fabulous!!! Jeannette is such a warm and welcoming spirit, with a huge constant smile. I’m sure you will meet her some day, and she will adore your mini bouquets!!
Hello from Northern Ireland Ryan! I’ve been enjoying your videos since you started posting, and I loved when you and Ellen were together on her channel. You have to have her guest on yours! Thanks for sharing your experience of Stitch North with us. I’m only a little jealous 😉 As a fellow introvert and flosstuber it was interesting to hear you share how it felt for you. I haven’t been to a stitch retreat but have been to quilting retreat and yes, going into a space of a lot of folks is daunting but the common love of the quilting or stitching really helps us introverts to feel like we’ve found our tribe and settle in. I’m so pleased it was a great experience for you. In the hope of one day getting to stitching retreat I shall watch your how to pack episode with interest. 👍
Hello from Canada! And thank you so much for watching!!! If you're watching Ellen, then I guess you stitch as well as quilt? It seems that there are many crossovers among the crafters. And yes, you are exactly right about finding our tribes. That's a great way to put it!
Yes, I came back to cross stitch during the lockdown in 2020 when I discovered flosstube. Now I stitch more than I quilt, but still love both, among other things.
So glad that you enjoyed your first stitching retreat at Stitch North. Stitchers are such a diverse collection of people, and at retreats we come together to share the experience of our love of stitching and meet people we might never have run across in our day-to-day activities. I'm happy that things are opening to travel and retreats!
You are absolutely right about everything. And I think because things have been closed for so long, many of us craved the contact and connection that the retreat allowed for, making it even more special.
So glad you had a good time at stitch North! Stanley is adorable. Looks like he dipped the tip of his tail in some white paint. If you are looking for a project for all those eye dazzling colours you bought, how about something from Satsuma Street
@@RyRyMcGuy yes I actually do! I mentioned it in my latest Flosstube! Going to The Steel City Stitchers retreat in Pittsburgh PA in March :) Stop by my channel and you can check out my latest Flosstube for more info :)
Hi Ryan from Colorado! You’re so refreshing I think you must be a counselor I just want to sit and listen to you talk and tell me how I need to live my life lol🤷🏼♀️anyway really appreciate your beautiful spirit and stitching, keep the videos coming my friend! 💙
Hi Vickie! I'm so touched by your compliment. Thank you! That means so much to me. I'm getting more comfortable with the process and I hope to keep it up as much as time will allow. 😊
Very much enjoyed living vicariously through you! I have to save up my loonie and toonies for StitchNorth 🤞 I am also here with you on the Brin & Nedle bandwagon - I want to design with their floss foreverrr
I do hope you can manage to make Stitch North happen. I know we'd totally have a blast! And I can't see what amazing things you create with B&N. I know it'll be magical!
Another great video. I have to agree that Stitch North was amazing. I did see you there but I struggled being in a space with so many people after a very looonnngggg 2 years. It was a great retreat and maybe I’ll get to meet you in 2023.
Hi Marlene! I'm sorry to hear about your struggle but I'm SO happy you made it to the retreat. And yes, 2 long years will make anyone have a challenge in those situations. I do hope to meet you in 2023 as well!
We have all been gushing about this retreat, as if there has never been anything like it before :) But its TRUE! It was the best and I can't wait for next year! Great re-cap Ryan.
Have we really been gushing? haha. I really have nothing to compare it to, this being my very first crafting retreat, and I'm so happy it was a success for Caroline and the vendors and all those who attended. Can't wait for next year as well!
Hello from Shetland, thank you so much for another stunning video. The retreat sounded amazing and your gifts and exchanges looked lovely. Looking forward to seeing your retreat packing video, but only when you have time. I love the Stanly interruptions such a handsome little guy. He should have his own slot in the video 😸 Finally the cross stitch kit with Nessie, the Unicorn and the Haggis looks adorable . Sending stitchy hugs across the Atlantic.
Thank you so much for watching! And yes, definitely check out the Quirky Quakers series. They're sweet and funny and are a quick stitch. And yes, Stanley has been bugging me for his own channel. hehe
Great video. I enjoyed the retreat as well, I shopped more than I thought. I keep seeing myself shopping in other people's retreat photos! 😂 I am glad you had a great time, hope to see you next year and the progress on your new purchases. I agree with not interupting a cat!
Thank you for watching! And it's great to hear so many others had a good time at the retreat, too. I was actually thrilled to find a photo where I'm in the background actually stitching, so there's documented proof that it happened. haha!
Thank you so much! It was great to meet you as well. Magical is definitely the word. Can't wait til next year as well, and until then, see you around Facebook!
You are the best cat dad around Ryan! Stanley is so lucky to have found you, I love seeing him on camera. Stitch North sounds like such a fun time. Hopefully it’ll be on my list of things to make happen next time.
That's so sweet of you to say! Stanley does bring so much joy into my life and I'm happy to share that energy, despite my complaints about him crashing my party all the time. And if you're on Facebook, join the Stitch North group to keep on top of the news and info. They're already planning for next year!
So glad you had a wonderful experience at your first retreat. Your recap was amazing! While you had previously stitched with Ellen, you had not stitched with others and were a bit unsettled. It made my recall my first retreat many years ago in Fargo, ND taking a hardanger class. I said I had never cut in public before, and it too was a bit unsettling! I had always cut hardanger first thing in the morning when the sun was high in the sky and I was fresh and it was absolutely quiet. LOL Retreats are always great, each has it's own uniqueness.
Hi Tam! I understand what you mean about needing everything right before making that snip. I'm the same way when it comes to some sewing projects. And yes, it took me a whole morning to relax into the situation and get acclimated. It was really great fun and I look forward to next year!
Wow, StitchNorth retreat was terrific wasn’t it? I was at the table next to you and Yvonne’s finishes were beautiful. Thank you for saying the name of the floss she used, I paused you while I went to 123 Stitch and ordered it. Hope to see you next year at StitchNorth 2023, I’m paid and ready😊
I'm so glad you had an awesome time, too! And yes, Yvonne's finishes were quite special. I'm also happy to hear that the shop still had some to order and that I didn't buy them all out. :) See you next year!!!
Ryan, it was an absolute joy meeting you at the retreat. It is so lovely to hear about your experience, even if I was there too! I was jealous of your table with all the cool people LOL but ALL the people were wonderful. Still buzzing with happiness from the whole weekend. I am also an introvert so have to make an effort to make connections but it was so worth it. I'm booked for next year ! In the meantime the Ottawa area stitchers will try to make mini meetups in between . Onwards !!
It was wonderful meeting you, too, Michele!!! And I think every table had their own unique vibe and energy, but Ellen definitely brought the cool factor. hehe. I know exactly what you mean about the buzzing though. I'm smiling from ear to ear even now as I'm reading your comment. Have fun with your Ottawa stitchers and definitely see you next year!
It was such an amazing honor to meet you at StitchNorth! We had a great time, didn't we? Enjoyed your Flosstube very much and looking forward to the next one!!
Sounds like a great retreat, glad you got to go. Great goodies you received & bought. Stanley is a beautiful kitty with gorgeous eyes. I remember the tv test patterns. Here in the US, they would show the flag & play the National Anthem before the test pattern. Marilyn
Thank you so much for watching! And do TV stations even go off the air anymore? It's been about 10 years since I've had cable and I'm sadly out of the loop.
Hi! New subscriber here! Wanted to tune in after seeing you at Stitch North. You captured the essence and vibe of the weekend perfectly. I look forward to more videos ❤️
Awww that makes me so happy to hear! It was hard for me to focus because there was so much I wanted to share. I've been remembering enough things to have content for a whole other video! haha. But I'm especially happy to hear you enjoyed the retreat as well.
Great video! I'm still recovering from Stitch North 😁 Was nervous because I didn't know anyone. I made several stitchy friends, lots of inspration, stash addition, and great memories. Already registered for 2023. Stanley is adorable
I'm so happy to hear that you didn't let your nerves hold you back! I want everyone who might be nervous to know that it doesn't matter if you don't know anyone and that great memories and friends are guaranteed. And I'm sure Stanley will be back again for more. In fact, he might be demanding his own channel soon. hehe
The difference between an alligator and a crocodile is if you see it later or after-while! Sounds like great fun at the retreat-so glad you shared it with us!
Loved hearing all about Stitch North! Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Your scissors case is stunning! lucky someone! Hope to join in the Canadian stitching fun some year. xx, Tricia
Hi Tricia. Thank you so much for the compliment! Finishing that scissors case was a little finicky but I'd definitely make another one in the future. After all, I need something to put my scissors in, right? 😉
Thank you for your great recap of your stitching retreat. It was fun to hear all the details and see your enthusiasm and excitement and hear about all the fun had by all. I love the scissor holder and matching scissor fob that you made, it’s beautiful. The retreat ornament that you finished looks so beautiful too and so special that it was a team piece. I love your La D Da bunny and looking forward to seeing your finish. Thank you for another wonderful video and looking forward to seeing you next time.
Hi Ryan. It's great seeing you and Stanley again! I am so glad you enjoyed yourself at Stitch North. It sounds like you had a fantastic time! I'm looking forward to your next video!
You're so sweet. You're welcome for chilling with you; I know you know that you don't need to keep apologizing. I am here to watch you, and I don't need an apology for you being you 😊 You you you you. Now there's a drinking game! Cheers Ry! 🥂
Hehehe well I'm here for that game for sure! And thank you so much for watching. It gets easier every time, and I do need to reign in my Canadian apologies. 😂 Take care!
I loved hearing about all the fun @ Stitch North! I am Sure the recipient of your gorgeous scissors case was beyond thrilled . It is beautiful! What?! The bag you made was out of the same fabric as the bag in the loot bag?! Love that. I went to my first, and only so far, retreat a couple years ago solo and it was outside of my comfort circle. So glad I did because I had a blast!
Isn't that crazy about the fabric? Too funny! And I'm so glad you managed to venture outside of your comfort zone and had a blast. I know virtually everyone felt the same way that you did.
Hi. So glad you had such a wonderful experience at the retreat. I have never had the chance to go to one but it is on my bucket list. Love the scissor holder and fob, your work is impeccable . That was so amazing about the bags both having the same fabric. That was a sure sign that it was meant for you lol lol. God bless you Ryan and have a wonderful evening. Will be waiting to see you again soon. Linda from Rhode Island
Hi Ryan, Thank-you for the update on the retreat. I was not able to come this year. Maybe next year. I told Caroline I was bummed. Glad to hear you had a great time. Nice to see Stanley again.
My pleasure! Sorry to hear you couldn't make it, though. I believe registration for next year's retreat is opening up next week, though. I think the demand is high so it's probably best to act sooner rather than later. And Stanley says hi! :)
Oh no!!!! I'm going to the April one. CRAP!!! Well even if it means having to register for both, I am NOT going to miss you. Seriously. But I'm so happy you're coming up for it! YAY!!!! (and please forgive the yoyo of emotions haha)
This was my first retreat also and I drove by myself. I know that I have made new friends and I am new to your channel. I was too shy to travel throughout the room but I certainly will next year. Such a wonderful time. Loved your video and Stanley as well.
Your recap of the retreat was so touching! From one introvert to another, it made me pluck up the courage to keep an ear out for upcoming retreats in the states. I would be traveling alone and not know anyone, but it sounds so lovely! Still thinking of starting my UA-cam channel.
Oh that would be amazing if you did!!! If you're on Facebook, keep your eye out for retreat groups. I know our Stitch North retreat had one and it was an excellent forum for people to connect with one another before the actual event. I think it helped contribute to a level of comfort many appreciated. Best of luck!
Loved the visit by Stanley and so did my Mimi - she's a Maine Coon mix, and she was checking him out lol!! Love the idea of the packing and prep for retreats video! I'm not a UA-camr so can I still go?? I've never been to Canada, but it sounds like you folks up there know how to have fun!! I'm an introvert with issues concerning crowds, but from what you've shared, I think I could handle it. :-) Love the biscornu, and I'm going to have to try my hand at one! Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us, I enjoyed hearing about it and seeing all your fun stuff!!! I can't wait for the next one!
Say hi to Mimi, and YES you absolutely can go without being a UA-camr! There were just a handful of us and it was definitely not a youtube thing. It was a stitchy retreat with lots and lots and lots of stitchers. I can't recall if I mentioned this, but one of the ways that made me feel really relaxed and comfortable was by having my back to the room. I got to fully enjoy my table mates without being overwhelmed by the rest of the activity going on. It was easy enough to walk around and enjoy everyone else's company when I felt ready. Please do go to a retreat if you get a chance.
I am happy to have had the chance to meet you at the retreat. Oh my gosh I so understand being introverted. Unfortunately to counteract that I tend to talk without thinking and end up saying stupid things so please forgive me for the ridiculous things I said when I met you. You were actually working on that pretty bunny when I came to your table and you gave me some good advice on finishing and stuffing a piece like that. Thank you. I also drove alone from the region of Lanaudière in Québec. Not gonna lie, I was nervous but I found a table that accepted me, and all of a sudden I felt right at home. I was in heaven. Caroline felt like a mother hen taking care of her chicks that had waited for oh so long to get together. She was amazing. So, I tried so hard to copy your Stich North piece and I failed but I'm happy with it. May I email you a picture of it? Take good care.
I'm sooooo happy you felt right at home and made some new friends! And yes, I think the people that were drawn to the retreat are a real testament to the kinds of folks that Caroline attracts. She really was amazing. And your finish is amazing, too! I saw you shared it on the FB group and I think it's fantastic! Really great job. And now, you definitely didn't say anything stupid, but I know what you mean, in that I felt like I was in a haze or a fog most of the time and who knows what I might have said! haha. Are you tempted to go to any other retreats now that you've found out how much fun they are?
@@RyRyMcGuy Thank you Ryan. You are so very kind. Yes as to another retreat. I have signed up for one in New Hampshire which is so cool because we'll be staying in an old Shaker Village right in the house where they lived. Of course then it was ladies on the left and gentlemen on the right. No mixing. 😀 It will be much smaller than the SN retreat but I think it will be really nice. How about you?
What a great recap of the retreat! I'm so glad you liked the biscornu and other goodies. Your hug meant more to me than you will ever know ❤ Looking forward to more of your FlossTubes and seeing you again next year.
Dearest RyRy.. Another great video.. You just must give the love when Stanley makes his appearance !!! What fun at Stitch North. I'm so hoping I can attend next year.. Be well, stay safe...Susan from British Columbia
Are you a member of the Stitch North Facebook group? Be sure to join for the latest and greatest. I think general registration for next year will be opening up soon!
Love the video and the length was perfect. Do you know you can find that television pattern in cross stitch on Etsy. I thought about it but because I have more time behind me then ahead of me, I have to be a bit more choosy on what I stitch these days.
Thank you! And you're absolutely right about the time thing. There are sooooo many beautiful charts and it's impossible to stitch them all. Maybe I should frame and hang up the actual charts so I can enjoy them because it's unlikely I'll ever get around to all of them. hehe
I'm actually not a stitcher! At least not yet--I mainly crochet. But I understand how moving it can be to be with friends in person, after a long time apart, and with people who really *get* the thing you love. This was a beautiful episode and very lovely to listen to while I work on some blue pineapple lace.
Yup Ryry, I’m here! Sittin on the Westcoast. Wished I’d have felt more Covid comfort because I’d have been there. In hindsight, glad I didn’t. I’ve avoided Covid this long and hope that continues. Heh Stanley
I've not gone to a retreat YET because the idea of walking into a room full of people I don't know makes me queasy. But one of these days I'll get brave.
Let me tell you, Kathy, you are not alone in your feelings. But it really is like taking that first step off a diving board. Once you book and commit to a retreat, you won't regret it. In fact, I guarantee part of the enjoyment of the event will be from your decision to go, and discover that there are others out there feeling exactly the same thing, and discovering that the scary thoughts that live in our head are only thoughts and nothing more.
I am one that if I am going to any events i am going alone because I don't have anyone who shares ANY of my hobbies. but I don't have a UA-cam so i am not sure if i will go on any stitch retreats
You definitely do NOT need to have a UA-cam. In fact, there were only a few of us and by far the minority. Many don't even watch UA-cam so I'm sure you'll be fine with any retreat you'd like to attend.
I enjoy your videos just as they are Don't be so hard on yourself with the ums and anyways... I come here for Stitchy talk not a professional production. Keep it real! Can't wait to see your packing video and your Narnia SAL- I finished mine up the weekend the last release came out.
You are absolutely right, Geralyn! I will let go of my concerns about ums and enjoy the moment. Thank you so much. And huge congrats on the Narnia SAL! I need to really knuckle down on my own. :)

I was actually thrilled to find a photo where I'm in the background actually stitching, so there's documented proof that it happened. haha!
Hi Ryan, another great video! Loved meeting you at Stitch North. What a magical experience it was. Can’t wait until next year!
Thank you for sharing your retreat experience. It was fun to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@RyRyMcGuy hope I get to be on the same weekend. I want to do both but will have to settle for one :-( but yeah happening !
@@michelegagnier162 I think I'll be going the first weekend. And I understand that a few have signed up for both. Now that's commitment!
@@RyRyMcGuy If I win the lottery, I'm in for both !! LOL
It was such an amazing honor to meet you at StitchNorth! We had a great time, didn't we? Enjoyed your Flosstube very much and looking forward to the next one!!
Thank you so much, Desiree!!! Was such a treat to meet you, too. Thanks for watching and hope to see you again!
The third La De Da bunny is FRANCIS 🥰. I love your Sweet Pea!
I want to say "thank you" for that bit of info. Unfortunately, Sweet Pea nearly killed me so I think he's going to be a solo bunny in his dough bowl.
Sounds like great fun at the retreat-so glad you shared it with us!
haha good point! I did google after reading your comment and have determined that my bedazzled needle minder is of indeterminate species. :)
Your words mean so much to me. Thank you! And yes, I loved participating in a team effort. Wish me luck on finishing the bunny in the next few days!
Hi Ryan. It's great seeing you and Stanley again! I am so glad you enjoyed yourself at Stitch North. It sounds like you had a fantastic time! I'm looking forward to your next video!
Thank you so much! And yes, the retreat was great fun. I'd highly recommend one to anyone.
You're so sweet. You're welcome for chilling with you; I know you know that you don't need to keep apologizing. I am here to watch you, and I don't need an apology for you being you 😊
You you you you.
Thank you, Linda from Rhode Island! And yes, definitely go to a retreat if you get the chance. I don't think you'll regret it one bit.
I can’t wait for your packing video. I’ll be attending my first retreat this fall and I could really use some advice.
It will be my pleasure to share! It's filmed already and I just need to edit it. Hope you'll find it helpful.
What a FANTASTIC recap. I hope you're registered for May 2023!!! =D
Thank you for watching, and I'm so happy to hear you made it to the retreat and made some new friends! That's so awesome!!! See you next year. 😊
Awwww that's the sweetest thing to say! And know that the sweet treats came in very handy as I was editing the video. Thank you!!!
Hi, great video 🤙🏼, thanks for sharing your experiences at the retreat, looks and sounds like you had a fantastic time.
Thanks for watching, and it was totally my pleasure to share the experience.!
Love your cat with the rather unique white tail tip. So sweet
I'm glad you enjoyed his little appearance. I love his little white tip as well. :)
Thank you so much for the info!!
Loved meeting you at Stitch North! Can’t wait until next year!
Loved meeting you, too! And I'm looking forward to checking out your own Stitch North recap and comparing notes. :)
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it regardless of craft.
Yup Ryry, I’m here! Sittin on the Westcoast. Wished I’d have felt more Covid comfort because I’d have been there. In hindsight, glad I didn’t. I’ve avoided Covid this long and hope that continues. Heh Stanley
There's always next year. General registration opens next week!
You didn’t talk about me enough.
Isn't that what your channel is for?
@@RyRyMcGuy both our channels need to mention me more
I've not gone to a retreat YET because the idea of walking into a room full of people I don't know makes me queasy.
@@RyRyMcGuy deep breath. Ok, let's see what I can do. Thank you, Ry!!
You are a delight. The end.
You're too kind. I'm glad you're enjoying them!
I just watched all your videos and I love all your projects. Also I really hope that Stanley is named after Stanley Kowalski.
Thank you for watching! And I'll just say that our dog's name is Stella and we'll leave it at that. hehe ;)
What kind of dog do you have? 🐕🦺 I love Stella and Stanley 🐕! What great names!
@@teresaboyer5707 She's a rescue from Northern Ontario so definitely some husky. Probably some shepherd and collie, too. She's one smart cookie.
