I couldn't agree with you more! It's not that I don't like Agalloch's cover version but its almost too good if you know what I mean.. The original version sounds more raw. Like people just throwing down their working tools in the field and start singing. With that said both versions are very powerful songs!
Its funny how most listeners of this and Agalloch's cover don't say anything about synth at start of cover version. In my opinion it really makes this song work better.
Give us our bread and bury our dead And kneel to the cross on the wall Whether burnt at the stake or drunk at the wake Just kneel to the cross on the wall We've original sin, but we might just get in If we beg to the cross on the wall It's love your neighbours and rattle your sabre Just kneel to that cross on the wall [Chorus] See the roof fall, hear the bells crash As flesh and bone turns to ash Tried to conquer the sun with a christian frost The corpses' stench beneath the cross [Verse 2] And give them gold and they'll save your soul And kneel to the cross on the wall And hail to the boss of the great unwashed And kneel to the cross on the wall They wail and weep, the march of the sheep As they go to the cross on the wall And it's ever so wrong to dare to be strong So kneel to the cross on the wall
As far as I am aware the song was originally on Lex Talionis, but in an even rawer version, with a somewhat off/sharp voice on the “It's ever so wrong“ part.
neo folk is not for everybody..this is the reason why people prefer Agalloch version (ps: I really love that version..but Tony wrote this song, not them :) )
Please, neofolk is easy listening compared to most black metal, and that's the general listening areas of most Agalloch fans. I got here from the cover but I like this version more; it's just personal preference.
This folk, his voice sounds like a decrepit spirit that controls the autumn & the pure soils of a mytic forest, it's near of the fire of wisdom. Agalloch it's the same thing, but just that they're the learning grandsons, & Sol Invictus the grandfather.
@@Sorcerouss I actually hate most black metal due to its lack of inaudible sound. One reason I love Agalloch is how they embrace so much music influence. They did this song justice and I do admit, the original version by Sol Invictus is nice.

@@DrakeDead Judeo? Are you familiar with the Christian teachings about the synagogue of satan? I get the criticisms of the modern, cucked, "Christianity", but the orthodox interpretation and teachings of the church have been lost to the corruption and must be reclaimed. So much beauty, so much emotion, so much passion. Thanks so much ProphecyBC, i was looking for this song for ages.
I enjoy this version of the song as well as Agalloch's cover
the voice of john Haughm is flawless :)
@@extremeanalogmusic6296 I miss Agalloch.
@@BNK2442 same. Too bad these pussies couldn't handle a stupid joke. So much for black metal musicians being "extreme"

didn't knew that this song was in Death Of The West album, haha awesome
Me encanta esta canción, en todas sus versiones.

orginally sung by Ian Read on Lex Talionis.
Excellent

Michael Bloomberg paid Felix Biederman $750,000 to do an infinite loop of when someone threw a donut at him set to this. Wow.
link pls
lyrics are very nice
I could see Michael Bloomberg getting eternally pelted with donuts to this music
Could you tell me what that is a reference to? Assuming I'm trve kvlt to learn it.

not like they were going for melancholy by itself, it's grander than that. sol invictus version just sounds...older
just realized Wardruna basically covers this song as solringen
I've never even heard the Agalloch version. Hail unto S.I.
🔥🦅
I prefer the agalloch cover but I respect the original at least as much.
what the meaning of the song? i am not familiar with sol invictus lyrics,... is it a pro christian song? sorry english is not my mother tongue
Absolutely not. It's a pro-pagan song. it mocks the hypocrisy of Christians facing the Cross to solve all of their sins instead of facing them.

Agalloch is too slow. This is perfection.
Why not both :)
Love them both, but prefer Agalloch
What does "But sumer is icumen in" mean? Just the obvious "Summer is coming in"?
roughly "Summer has arrived" translated from Middle English
exactly.
Its the title of the oldest Song known, 800 years old
Yep Tony have just more emotion in his voice than John Haughm
Love the vocals but prefer Agalloch's slower version.
Is that Eric Owens' voice I hear?
It's Tony Wakeford
This song converted me to Mithraism. Ok, It didn't.
why should it?
Christianity is Mithraism and Sol Invictus Sun worship .
Hail to the Sun!
🤘
more better then agalloch
Ma dai è impossibile confrontarle..... SOL INVICTUS!
The intro is too long. Excellent song!
i love this song but agalloch did it better. the best track on this album imo is our lady of the wild flowers
This is too fast. Agalloch has a better cover theirs decrees a darker sad feel
I agree!
