Literally could not have asked for better timing with this upload lmao. I’m in OMS-I and just finished my first class, somehow got an A on the final exam after failing the midterm. The culture shock of realizing that taking notes was basically useless definitely took me a while to grasp, but I think now I’ve found a good plan. For any incoming med students reading this, John is 1000% right about Anki, you NEED to do your Anki reviews every single day if you don’t wanna drown in med school content. Anki and Pixorize saved my ass from failing my first course. Also, as far as specific Anki decks go, talk to some 2nd year students and see if they’re willing to share decks. My school has official decks for each course, but they’re not comprehensive, so I like to supplement them with Anking and other decks that upperclassmen made.
@@berlyrene1164 I'm at NoordaCOM in Utah. My experience with the school so far has been mostly pleasant, but there are definitely some aspects of this school that might turn people away from it, namely the fact that it's pre-accredited so you can't take out government student loans, tuition is awfully high at just under $70k a year, the class size is on the higher end (roughly 170 people in my graduating class), and the preclinical classes are graded rather than pass/fail. But on the plus side, all the lectures are pre-recorded and made available for you online, there are no mandatory lectures (aside from labs), the location is solid and the city of Provo is very safe, and the professors here are very nice and are easy to get in touch with when you need help. I would personally prioritize going to a school that's already accredited so you don't have to get shafted by private loans, but I ended up going here because all of the other schools that accepted me were either unaccredited or were in a really bad area. Given my circumstances, I definitely don't regret coming here so far, so I'd say it's a good choice.
Congratulations John! Praying for your residency application! 🎉

What school do you attend and would you recommend others going there?
