Brings back a lot of memories from the early to mid 1980 s when I had one of those players and a pretty good collection of discs (mostly horror). I had the same problem with skipping every once in a while, but they were pretty cool at the time. Thanks for uploading.
Videodisc isn't every movie collector's cup of tea I can say that. I am fascinated by it and have fond memories of watching some Disney films in this format as a kid. I have learned to become patient with the format. As a horror fan I had to have the 5 Wizard releases. The hard part is not spending too much on them especially if they are coming from someone who can't test the disc to see how it plays. I love the size of the artwork and if I really like the artwork and the disc is just plain unplayable, I'll hang up as art. Welcome to the CED family!
Nice stuff I bought a ced player at a gradge Sale years back for 2 bucks. And it came with the black stallion and some goofy Lone Ranger movie lol. It works perfect to this day it’s neat to see somebody else has some of these rare machines still kicking around
Another piece of advice. If you don't know how to inspect the disc itself, take the time to look it up on youtube. They are easy to extract. Take a good look at the disc and make sure there are no gouges or ugly big spots on the disc. These can play havoc with your stylus and sometimes cause a lot of harm to your player. I've heard of styli getting caught on a gouge and the disc shattering inside the player. If the disc looks playable then pre play it a couple of times before sitting down to watch it. The stylus can also act as a cleaner. I've had some discs play better with more spins.
it seems like your player may have more than one issue. when it goes from b/w to rainbow like that typically that means the turntable speed is off ( usually too slow ) and if it is skipping around like that there may be another issue. first thing to check are the belts. clearly they havent turned to goop, but they may not be as tight as they should, and the slip in the advance will cause the stylus to track back since it cant move forward. the stylus has an allowable frame of time it can play before it has to be kicked forward... i can go on with this haha
I don't own one of these know much about these things but another UA-camr who has a massive collection of these says as long as the player and the records are in good shape, they play in really good quality EDIT: Also that player sounds really loud and angry. Every other video I've seen of these they're fairly quiet.
Wow, love those artworks on the caddies. A CED player with a few horror films is definitely something I'd buy to put in my man cave just to make a nice conversation piece. Apparently it's difficult to find a good player these days so I wouldn't buy it to actually watch the movies, but more to get a piece of history. It would also be really nice to display the discs since the art on them is very nice. If most of the discs and players were still in good condition I'd buy one, have a "CED night" with my friends and go full hipster.
HorrorBreakdown We had Friday the 13th, apocalypse now, Star Wars, Charlie Brown, Charlottes Web, the shootist, Rocky, empire strikes back - that’s all I can remember. We had this before our first VCR - Good Times!
@@GSGExtreme44 That's awesome, and it's funny how the VCR was just a much better option for consumers and way less finicky. Now, people don't even want to own a physical disc because they can just watch it on their computer.
So I have Zombie on CED as well and it’s still in the plastic wrapping and everything. I wanted to find out how much it was worth so I checked eBay and couldn’t find it. Then I found a list of the rarest CEDs and it was on that list. I was just wondering if you knew how much it would go for?
The Zombie CED in used shape goes for an average of around $50 and can ship Media Mail in the US for only a few bucks (these fit well in pizza boxes). Brand new and sealed? I wouldn't be afraid to ask for $150-$200 on eBay and enable "Best Offers" on it. CEDs are a very limited market though, so just because something is rare doesn't make it worth a whole ton. Good luck with it!
HorrorBreakdown thanks!!! I don’t have any intention of selling it because it’s definitely a classic and my film major friends are always fascinated by my collection whenever I show them.
you could, but you'd have to rig it in a weird way. what it would produce would sound like nothing but static. CED's work on capacitant discharge, so there are no "grooves" that the stylus could work in. it works by measuring electrical momentum along the disc. it's actually a really cool system
I like CED's also i think your stylist is bad that's why it skips your colors are not right replacing caps on the main board should fix that anyway CED has a better picture then VHS its almost Beta Quality
Most people just buy them now for the oversized artwork, but some also like having stuff on an obscure format. It's also not that hard to own everything that was put out on CED. Just one of those things.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching.

Thanks. The oversized artwork was what initially interested me.
That's still coo, both zombie & TCM 74 are great movies!
Definitely!

Awesome deal! Great to see the old machines still kicking. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the tips. I'll take a look and try a few things!

Thanks for the video. Thanks for the info.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.

Oliver's World they're definitely really cool. I love the oversized artwork.
not meaning to advertise here, but i have one working up for sale on Ebay :P
Yikes. I would be afraid to put that Zombie and TCSM CED in. Yours are in such good condition. I would actually shrink wrap those and preserve them.
My dad bought one of these in 1981 - The movies now skip, but it still works -
Did he buy a lot of movies for it?

interesting never heard of if before. really cool collecting items by the way.
Thanks. Yeah, they've become popular due to the oversized artwork, but local working players aren't easy to come by.
Thanks for sharing. I want one. Too bad the movie skips back and forth like that. How much did you pick it up for?
I think I paid about $20 shipped for Zombie off of eBay. The CED player itself was $10 at a thrift store.
4:20 Vestron Video Is Going Crazy!
That's was during the beginning of vhs
Can you play a ced disk on a vinyl player and hear something?
you could, but you'd have to rig it in a weird way. what it would produce would sound like nothing but static. CED's work on capacitant discharge, so there are no "grooves" that the stylus could work in. it works by measuring electrical momentum along the disc. it's actually a really cool system

Except for the day the system and movies came home from the store this format blows

Laserdiscs would be a better option than CEDs.
