Most of the time it is true and I found out the hard way when my guy friend confess to me that he has feelings for me but not long afterwards I ended the friendship after I realized that he just wanted to date me. I should have saw the signs sooner and ended it right then and there but I just wasn't looking at things very clearly. You have to cut that friendship out not only for yourself but for them as well. If you keep them around then that is sending a message to them that maybe next time they'll get a chance but there will most likely not ever be a chance. Sure it would be sad to let them go but it is better for both of you in the long run.

The issue is defining friendships by the absence of intimacy. Over 30 years in this life has taught me one important thing... I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. I know of only TWO LONG TERM CROSS GENDERED FRIENDSHIPS. They're in their 40s and 50s. They slept with each other in their early to mid 20s and married different partners. My position remains...Men and women CAN be friends, so long as they can have sex and not want to form a romantic relationship.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death.
I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse.
People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner.
It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse.
