This is Madonna's most theatrical and least commercially structured album. When you listen more, you will get that there is a reason for each artistic choice, and then it all comes together sensibly. Of course, track 2 and 3 are not typical for a pop artist, but get into the journey and storytelling of them and they come together. This is akin to a concept album like Dark Side of The Moon. Think of it that way. And the signing through the teeth is a metaphor for a. being silenced and b. choking on your own words c. not being able to speak... muddled communication.

AJayll, you are so funny and sincere, I LUV IT! Madonna was inspired by Portugal and Brazil in "Faz Gostoso", "Extreme Occident", "Batuka", "Killers Who Are Partying" and "Crazy" and maybe that's why the album sounded strange to you. I think "Ray of Light", "Rebel Heart", "Confessions on a Dance Floor" and "Bedtime Stories" may be a more enjoyable experience for you. If you got curious about Anitta, I recommend her album "Bang!" (my favorite), but her last release is a visual album called "Kisses"! Brazil would love to see your reaction. P.s.: I don't mean to be rude, but "Crazy" lyrics are actually in portuguese, not spanish. Though it's easy to get confused, "louca" and "loca" are very similar words with the same meaning.
@@vibeology9432 Actually, I think the rap is clever, especially how the second verse jumbles the words from the first one, but the way she 'sings' it is a little strange. It doesn't ruin the song for me though... I think it's a masterpiece.
I personally love the album and I think it's very innovative in its sound and inspiration from Brazilian and Portuguese music. Madonna deserves more recognition for that, I like her experimental voyage in some of the tracks.
Azael Poplert it is innovative for pop music, which Madonna is. Those melodies from other countries make this album inspired and rich, a twist of electronica and french house makes it unique

I personally think madame x is such a complex and aggressive album (in the good way). You really need to listen to it again and pay attention in the production of the most part of the songs. But anyway, taste is taste, huh? :)
Madame X is probably her most experimental album to date. I feel like it's her being like, "I don't care about getting record sales with this, I'm just doing what I want". It takes a few listens to get into most of the songs, and it's not nearly as accessible as most of her work. You should really give "Ray of Light" a full listen. It's a true masterpiece.

I don't think it was her most experimental work to date, but it's up there. Especially if we consider that she's "late" to the whole latin-influenced music trend that's going on. She usually arrives just in time for trends -- trip hop in the early 90s, electronica in the late 90s/early 2000s and then pure dance music in late 2000s.
After living in Lisbon and watching the show I can say that she basically did a trip around the world. The sounds are from Latin America(Colombia and Brazil), Portugal, Morocco, Cabo Verde... Which is why it might sound messy but makes sense with the story she tells in the show. A woman that has traveled around the world and discovered new cultures and ways of living; including injustice and violence. I like the fact she was not commercial at all and she actually was more artistic. Even during the opening she starts with a quote that art is not there for making you comfortable, it is for making you see what you know it exist and you want to pretend it doesn't exist. True art ☺️☺️ and I think it is one of her best tours ever.
I would call "God Control" pretty much a masterpiece only if we take away the "wake up, wake up" super-autotuned, robotic part. Reducing that part, the song is awesome. However, in my opinion, there are others way better in the album, like "Crave", "I Rise", and "Looking for Mercy". But yeah, "God Control" is one of the best in the album.
@@themoonchild7444 excuse me? The "wake up" super autotuned bit is one of the best parts on any Madonna song. I live for that bit and the whole song in general.
East Kazz i cannot agree. Any autotune addition in any voice will decrease its quality. Madonna has a particularly beautiful voice, and I love it without any autotune. Aka, verses for Looking for Mercy, intro for God Control and basically all of her Ray of Light album. Unedited voice will always be superior than autotuned vocals. With any singer. And specifically with gifted singers like Madonna.
@@user-me6vy8ok3j I don't want to offend (I'm also a Lana del Rey fan) but I can assure you that Lana will never release an album at that level of mastery, cohesiveness, versatility and originality like RoL.
God control is a masterpiece, great to intro the disco!!!! Production is innovative autotune is exactly what the messages, which are so great, need 👍👍👍
@@bebla5394 you're right I did lose! I expected so much more than faux-woke basic lyrics masquerading as political sentiments, trend chasing and bandwagon jumping and unbearable cheap sounding auto-tune from this album. I absolutely adore Madonna but I'm fan enough to admit this is nothing but pretentious garbage.
i think she should’ve listened to Madame X first, then start at the beginning, work her way up, and react to Madame X again with the understanding of Madonna better
@@thesassynerd And what's the problem? She lives in Portugal, and sings in Portuguese. Sing with Latin singers and sing in their language. Everyone gets elements from other cultures, that's called globalization.
@@HarleyChristo globalization and cultural appropriation aren't the same thing. Because in the cultural appropriation, there's a domination in it. Like when white people took the jazz and gentrify it, that's exacy what she did with Batuka which is a Cape Verdean music
I wouldn't choose this album as the first foray into Madonna, it's pretty flawed. I suggest Ajay may fuck with something like "Confessions on a Dance Floor".
@@srt4788 that's a common thing for people to say about art... when you don't understand something it doesn't mean that it's weird, please take your time and try to understand the music

Like A Prayer has aged probably the worst, it would not sounds good to new ears in 2019. Even her debut sounds less dated. I would say go for Ray Of Light and/or Music/American Life - both would make interesting reactions.
@@xophiyah7101while I disagree, I still feel that with your reasoning that that should be enough of a reason to listen to it, to see how her music has changed over the years. I also specifically mentioned Like a Prayer because it stands out as one of her few albums that moves completely away from variations of the dance-pop sound.
I love Tove Lo. It seems like she was on the way to be the next big thing in pop. With her debut album and the hit singles (as well as her voice) then her EDM/trance house collab with DJ Alyesso "Heros" whuch was a smash hit. Loved her song from the soundtrack to 50 Shades of Grey (another hit) it seems like she's fallen out of popularity just a tad in the USA. Such a shame she's very talented. I know she's still really big overseas. Regardless I can't wait for her new music 🎶
it took me a few listens to understand the concept of *Madame❌* there was a reason for the excessive autotune. *Madame❌* is a spy and the autotune was meant to be a disguise, and when you can hear her real voice more clear was when there wasn’t an assumed identity. each song was a different persona in a different place and time. Madame went and got existential on our a$$es. i think the reason people didn’t really dig the album was because the concept is maybe too demanding.
Maybe, but I also think that people could possibly just dislike the production or autotune in general. Madonna serves us with a kind of „imma show them“ production trying to be surprising and edgy which could turn out pretty nice (dark ballet) or weird (god control) which shes just not a master at like lorde or sia. But madame x still works as a body of work and art, its just not pop anymore at this point which is fine
I actually disagree with ajay because I liked killers who are partying sonically, but I hoped she would have delivered such an information with a more credible production/songwriting, I feel like your most important songs have to be bangers
Yeah probably because americans only like easy and boring albums ;) Probably ray of light would be too much for her... She only enjoyed the simple songs ahhaha
Madonna’s best albums are Like a prayer, Ray of light and Confessions on a dance floor. In my opinion i’d like you to react to Rebel heart album which is an underrated masterpiece. You are listening for the first time to a Madonna album so you can think some songs are messy but Madonna is a perfectionist, everything has a purpose, the example is God control new music video.

I would urge you to re-react to Madame X after you have done your Madonna discography series. Give Madonna a little break and listen to Madame X again. The album is not everybody’s cuppa but many of those who have given it another listen have changed their mind or dramatically changed their mind about it even though they were not keen on it at all after the initial listen. It really is a unique work of art. Nothing like she’s done before and nothing like what others are doing at the moment. Keep up the good work! 👍🏽
Agreed. I did not like this album for months, but eventually something clicked and I LOVE it now. Every song. I definitely did not feel that way for a while.
@@michaelcoppola7096 well I tried to feel in love with this album and there is no way. I loved R.H or American life, ray of light I am a fan of her but this album havent hit me so hard.
The fuck? All she pronounced is close to brazilian portuguese, she would need to swallow a potato to impersonate a portuguese accent. Plus in crazy she uses por me louca or something to mean "drive me crazy ", thats very spanish, perhaps someone translated that poorly and she sang it
That album is dope !! And I do believe that you do need to know more about her career and discography to understand why she made certain choices on that album, which is quite powerful and diverse in my views ! I guess it requires a few listenings and thinking to get used to. Some songs are more accessible than others but overall she is serving something more interesting than a simple ABBA cover album and for that I am so grateful to the Queen ❤❤

Spiritualy that spritual album sucks **says in a lana del rey voice**
@@user-me6vy8ok3j I don't want to offend (I'm also a Lana del Rey fan) but I can assure you that Lana will never release an album at that level of mastery, cohesiveness, versatility and originality like RoL.

I love this album too. Amazing.

God control is a masterpiece, great to intro the disco!!!! Production is innovative autotune is exactly what the messages, which are so great, need 👍👍👍
nah. it sucks.
@@IStandBrokenxo your choice. Love you anyway you lost 😘

I'M SO GLAD YOU REACTED TO MADONNA! REACT TO RAY OF LIGHT! LY QUEEN❤
Madonna is noted as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records.
Please give this a revisit. It really deserves one.
i think she should’ve listened to Madame X first, then start at the beginning, work her way up, and react to Madame X again with the understanding of Madonna better
Sorry it's been 3 years and this album still smells bad bffr. Someone in the comments said " it took 5 years but I really love it now" 💀

Yes with a lot of cultural appropriation but this Madonna, she did it everytimes
@@thesassynerd what do you know about cultural appropriation?
@@HarleyChristo i know that she takes a lot of cultural codes in order to repropriate herself
Bi Ph Bi Ph Bi Ph Bi Ph This album is amazingly cohesive

So underrated as was American Life. Madame X is a Masterpiece
React to "Like a Prayer" and "Erotica" - two of her best albums imo
Like A Prayer has aged probably the worst, it would not sounds good to new ears in 2019. Even her debut sounds less dated. I would say go for Ray Of Light and/or Music/American Life - both would make interesting reactions.
@@xophiyah7101while I disagree, I still feel that with your reasoning that that should be enough of a reason to listen to it, to see how her music has changed over the years. I also specifically mentioned Like a Prayer because it stands out as one of her few albums that moves completely away from variations of the dance-pop sound.

I SECOND THIS!
HINOO
I love Tove Lo. It seems like she was on the way to be the next big thing in pop. With her debut album and the hit singles (as well as her voice) then her EDM/trance house collab with DJ Alyesso "Heros" whuch was a smash hit. Loved her song from the soundtrack to 50 Shades of Grey (another hit) it seems like she's fallen out of popularity just a tad in the USA. Such a shame she's very talented. I know she's still really big overseas. Regardless I can't wait for her new music 🎶
God Control reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody in that Bohemian Rhapsody switches compositions several times as does God Control.
but in a very bad way
Ehhh I don’t see it.
I must've been the only one who almost had a heart attack when first listened to GOD CONTROL.

renato martinez yeah, you
renato martinez are you mad? Henny. When you could get glaad?
it took me a few listens to understand the concept of *Madame❌*
there was a reason for the excessive autotune.
I agree with u
Agreed..gotta b thru it to get
I dont care, i love it
Maybe, but I also think that people could possibly just dislike the production or autotune in general.
"GOD CONTROL" and "DARK BALLET" are masterpieces, everybody loves it, you just need more time listening to it.
girl just because everybody loves a song doesnt mean ajay does 😭
I don’t like Dark Ballet 😬

Yeah probably because americans only like easy and boring albums ;) Probably ray of light would be too much for her... She only enjoyed the simple songs ahhaha
Finally someone who‘s not recommending Confessions on a Dancefloor to her. As much as I loved that album, I do think it‘s a bit overrated.
Bedtime Stories is hands down one of the best ones EVER.
React to REBEL HEART
Madonna’s best albums are Like a prayer, Ray of light and Confessions on a dance floor. In my opinion i’d like you to react to Rebel heart album which is an underrated masterpiece. You are listening for the first time to a Madonna album so you can think some songs are messy but Madonna is a perfectionist, everything has a purpose, the example is God control new music video.
Like A Prayer is so overrated

I would urge you to re-react to Madame X after you have done your Madonna discography series. Give Madonna a little break and listen to Madame X again. The album is not everybody’s cuppa but many of those who have given it another listen have changed their mind or dramatically changed their mind about it even though they were not keen on it at all after the initial listen. It really is a unique work of art. Nothing like she’s done before and nothing like what others are doing at the moment. Keep up the good work! 👍🏽

The fuck? All she pronounced is close to brazilian portuguese, she would need to swallow a potato to impersonate a portuguese accent. Plus in crazy she uses por me louca or something to mean "drive me crazy ", thats very spanish, perhaps someone translated that poorly and she sang it
