My Type 1 Diabetes Diagnosis Story- Being Diagnosed with T1D at 8 years old, & My 12th Diaversary

Yesterday (June 2nd) marked the 12th year that I have been living with Type 1 Diabetes. For those of you who do not know, a Diaversary is a Diabetes Anniversary, meaning the date of a Type 1 Diabetic's initial diagnosis. In this video, you get a feel for the perspective of what it is like for an eight year old who just found out they got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, as I presently reflect on how I felt in that point in time

My 8 year old boy was diagnosed 4 days ago after being rushed to the hospital due to labored breathing. The tested him and his blood sugar was over 600. Once they started describing the symptoms, the past few months started making alot of sense. Hes taking it much better than me and his mom and your video was very reassuring to this scared dad. He actually thinks its cool having all his special gear and he will go get his brother and little sister to watch him get his shots. He hasnt cried or even flinched, which is much more than i can say for myself. Its so hard having to stick a needle in your baby, as im sure your parents can relate.
Thank you for sharing your story! Your son sounds so brave! To think that it has been less than a week since diagnosis and he already has such a positive outlook is incredible. For sure, my parents can attest to the unfamiliarity of it all. I am glad my video was able to provide a sense of reassurance. Best of luck to you, your family, and your son, with your son's Diabetes, but from what it sounds like, he has a bright future ahead of him.

Hi Monica Lewinsky & Drive Thru Tours. The amount of water that I drink daily, ranges anywhere from 64 ounces- 1 gallon of water. I do, however, make sure that I do not drink more than 32 ounces of water at one given time, because, while rare may have negative health consequences. Prior to my type one diabetes diagnosis I recall my water intake going up due to elevated blood sugars levels, however, now I drink the amount of water that I do, not necessarily due to high blood sugars, but because I appreciate the health benefits that drinking water brings.
