    Just to debunk smth.
    This is not THE crack. It's one of many places alongside the dividing tectonic plates and happens to be the most stunning one :D

    Imagine an earthquake happening while they're right in-between those plates!
    That would be bloody terrifying.

      Not necessarily. During a dive in Indonesia there was an earthquake and I could only hear a rumble (and felt it when I put my hand on the ground) but that was about it. Don't assume that you will see the kind of things that happen above water. Also, it's Iceland we are talking about which had erruptions and earthquakes on a daily basis.

      Not really any more than anywhere else along the rift. Remember that the rock walls on either side of you aren't *literally* two separate plates that can suddenly move independently. The entire rift zone is a web of similar fissures and cracks running roughly parallel to each other as the plates separate. This is just one area within the rift that happens to be especially spectacular.

      @@THEDEPARTURESCHANNEL do you actually need to be certified? I have over 140 dives and I always dive with a dry suit, just because I prefer them. It’s 2nd nature by now

    If its in techtonic plates why the water is not hot and creates geyser as below it magmatic liquid should be there.

    • @LASERJESUS
      @LASERJESUS Рік тому

      There tends not to be as much magma gathered at the borders, it occurs further into one of the two sides so it would probably be slowly affecting volcanoes in land. There is a much better explanation but this is a short one.

    • @sandysandy967
      @sandysandy967 Рік тому

      @@LASERJESUS i think the magma is inside the silfra deep beneth. Its great to look but you sud know to swim.

      Because there isn't literally one single crack in the ground where the plates separate and lava seeps through. It's not like the rock wall on one side is the North American plate and the other is the Eurasian plate. Common misconception. The entire area for kilometers in either direction is the rift, and there are many fissures that run more or less parallel as the plates separate. This just happens to be an especially scenic specific fissure within the larger rift.

      Hey Conor! We are negotiating with Netflix to get it up there in 4K. Hopefully this will happen Q2 2018. In the meantime you can get Descending in 1080p on Blu-Ray or from the departuresstore.com or via iTunes!

    I don't know why, But I just couldn't justify doing this when I was in Iceland...I think without a typical tour guide if would probably be more interesting than the 20 minute money grabber.

      Even so, it still is n°1 on my diving bucket list... But I agree, way more interesting if you could go without a guide.
