Using the great Sigma 30mm F1.4 for 6 years now, I was wishing for something a little sharper with less CA wide. Then I tried out this new Viltrox and it blew me away in every way. Only drawbacks in my eyes are size and AF performance (I hope for an update). Right now I'm conflicted about keeping it and selling my Sigma 30mm F1.4 or buying the Sigma 23mm F1.4 instead, completing my Sigma prime Quartet. As the 30mm is to narrow for my liking anyways and the 23mm is quite expensive here in Germany (550€) the Viltrox could be the perfect replacement for those two lenses. On the other hand the poor AF-performance outside of the middle of the frame of the Viltrox as well as the size and weight of this lens are quite annoying - the AF with the 30mm is right 99% of the time in every part of the frame and there is an appeal to its smaller and lighter form factor... What would you guys recommend? P.S.: I got the Viltrox with a huge discount for 425€.
@ferraz916 I did not realise that there was a new update. I just downloaded it and tried it quickly and the AF performance is hugely improved, at least on the level of the sigma. I returned the sigma and kept the Viltrox and I'm very happy with my decision! :)
I'm wondering what lenses would be comparable to this one. What other options are there in this price range with specs like this? I can't think of any other lens.
I now have this lens and the 75mm f/1.2 and so far so good. I only shoot stills so that is my use case. I’m a fan of this focal length so now I want a 28mm full frame equivalent but f/1.4 would be fine to keep the size under control. Thank you and take care.
Can you tell me if this lens has a linear focus ring? So does the focus throw depend on how fast you rotate the manual focus ring or on the rotation angle?
I thought the same until I bought it and it is not as bad as people thought it would be...the 75mm though is another story...that one is heavy but for a specialize occasion.

Can you update how is the AF performance after some firmware updates?

I have Viltrox AF 75mm F1.2 E Pro on my Sony a6700. Great review. I'm planning getting the 27mm pro.

Thanks you for this informative review , what about comparing it to the sigma 23mm f1.4 on a sony body ? Is the sigma sharper?
This Viltrox 27mm is definitely sharper than Sigma 30mm. I'd speculate that 27 and 23 would have similar sharpness, more so on the 27mm.
Best review I’ve seen
Thank you!
Is there a way to get rid of the focus breathing in post?
great review, i wait to see a comparison between XS20 and a6700
Thank you, unfortunately, I am not able to do that.
We need wider 1.2 lenses. 35 and now 27 is insufficient. We are waiting for 23, 16, and even 13mm f1.2.
I hope yes, but there is some reason why they do 1.2 so why not to go with 13mm f1.2 @@Eyeofkamau
I completely agree, I’m looking forward to your rendition of such lenses. If the companies aren’t making what you want, you should make it yourself.
It's cheaper and easier to just go for fullframe with f1.8 primes.
But if you already have apsc system and need just a couple of wider angles. But in general I understand what you mean@@MrMartinek99
Nothing with the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 already
This Lens is Native for Full Frame or Aps-C???
APS-C
Now that you gave your blessings, I can finally get this lens in good conscience. :)
Poor mans' GM, Iove it
Thumbs up for Banska Stiavnica
Too heavy.
Not really, the weight is justified by the performance.
