I am from a small town in Michigan, Dayton is my adopted City, I really love this place. All of it, the good, the bad and the ugly. Thank you for the bird's eye perspective.
Ohio used to be a powerhouse in America. It had every industry, lively and thriving state.
Some cities are doing okay but Ohio has fallen off quite a bit. When I lived in NY I always went to Cedar Point and Cleveland in the summer for concerts.
It has so many good sized cities. Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati... some states have only 1. Much like Michigan and the other states in that region, poverty took a huge toll on those states.
You're absolutely correct.Back in the days a kid could come straight from high school and make a living with out a degree due to the number of factory's in the area
Dude, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Been living here (NE Ohio) for 20 years. Doing wonderful - heck of a lot better than NY (currently in Hurricane Ida) and PA (incompetent governor.) Love it here.

Listen right now I don't agree with a lot of NYC politicians and it is going through it's own crisis right now. But Ohio, Nor any other state can ever be compare to NYC. NYC has a lot of history itself. And it's The most famous city in this country if Not the world. That's why people love to hate it. Jusr because. And I have a lot of respect for Dayton, ohio it had some of the Greatest bands Like Heatwave, Slave, Zap band..Ohio players. So a lot of talent came from there. But Dayton ohio, is not what it used to be. It's pretty lifeless now. It's ashame.

The southern suburbs of Dayton are very nice. Centerville, Bellbrook, Washington Township, Miamisburg, Oakwood, Springboro, and parts of Kettering.
And Beavercreek to the east of Dayton is a beautiful upscale suburb.

I called this city my home for 12 years. I didn't not grow up there but I left my hometown at 21 and went Dayton. My first few weeks simply blew me away at the size of the city , how many jobs were available. For almost a year I relied a Phonebook and Map of the city with me so I could get around. I still call this city my home. The stuff I did there during ages 21 - 32 meant the most to me. I still call Dayton my home today. I'm planning a visit there in about 2 weeks. I know much has changed so I will just deal with it.

Does anyone know the back story to the painting of a black man in the window of the graphics terminal inc building on st clair street. Its been there since I was a kid? Its in the upper right corner of the building

I agree and have lived in and around Dayton for most of my 67 years. She ain't what she used to be, unfortunately, but people can go watch the "hood" videos showing that, and they are depressing. I'm in Kettering now, slightly better.
