- On November 11. 1813 A.D. a small group of 900 British and Canadian defenders defeated a large invasion force of over 8,000 U.S. Army soldiers at the Battle of Crysler's Farm. Poor logistics, bad weather and untrained recruits plagued the U.S. Army as they were totally unprepared for fighting in the rugged Canadian frontier. The large invasion of Montreal which was intended to split Canada failed to materialize which was schemed up by the Secretary of War John Armstrong Jr. who left Washington D.C. unprotected while he concentrated on trying to invade Canada while the majority of the British Army was occupied in Europe trying to defeat Napoleon. The defeat of the Americans at Crysler's Farm ended any hope of capturing the city of Montreal.
