I just discovered Dottotech ... how did I NOT know about you?! I have learned so much, Dottotech will now be my first 'goto' for understanding Google!
Great info, I'd really been struggling to organise my gmail & make it productive. All makes sense now.
Brilliant! Thanks Steve. I had (stupidly) been applying the labels manually after the emails arrived and not taken the time to work out how to get Gmail to do it automatically. Now thanks to your video I can finally make it work the other way around. Yet again your videos have saved me time.
Really great tutorial.
Wow! Your videos are amazing, Steve! You actually make it fun to get more tech-savvy, which is something I never thought would be possible. Your explanations and enthusiasm make it so easy to understand. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for this Video. I have a Gmail account but not really using it as a working productive mail box... Great Video
Great video by Steve on Gmail's labels
Thanks for the label coloring insight!!! Very Useful! :)
Wow, super helpful, thank you sir!
your explanation is too good
This was super helpful. Thank you!
What a great explanation! I loved this video so much. Thank you very much!
Very instructional and witty.
Small world ... was just talking to someone about how to manage Gmail and your video came up! When I told her we'd worked together, I think she thought I was kidding!! Great to have you in my network! ;-)
Diane Darling LOL that is terrific! You always bring so much value to this channel, hey, what is happening with the +mentions? Are they coming back?
dottotech - did you get my email about your trip to the East Coast USA? Or did the email miss your filter system! :-)
Outstanding information.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for this. My inbox was cluttered before and nothing but a headache. Now I am sorting everything out and putting them in their rightful place. Now I feel so much better. Just like cleaning the house. This video is Great.
Really great. Tutorial. Thank you!
Thx so much for showing me how to color my labels! You've made my day (colourful) :)
Steve, Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience in setting up Gmail. It is helping me with "playing around" with the various settings as I figure out structuring my accounts.
Great video Steve! In the process now of organizing my Gmail. Thanks again.
I really appreciate your inspiring presentation on this subject: your years of research, your depth of understanding of using Gmail, and your ability to present the subject in such an interesting way. The image(s) you show in the back while presenting is very helpful for dummies like me. This subject intrigues me, and I plan to learn more by watching more of your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Thank you so much for sharing your time and experiences with us. Thank you again for your contribution.
Thank you. Excellent description.
thank you ... !
Beginning an introduction in an institution contracts allot of harm to mental acceptance of the plethora given in this webinar to employ.Another email engine is the more commonly introduced and ideas about making more and most useful are often ignored.I'm glad this tutorial and others like it remain available.
Very helpful! You do a great job of explaining things thoroughly. I appreciate your humor and love hearing your accent when you say "about". :) Thank you!
Thank Steve. I only recently joined your community. You are providing a great service
Great video, Thanks! I really wish the labels would carry over to Inbox. Been using it every day now for a few weeks and it's getting quite frustrating to keep organized.
Thank you. this video is helping me to be more organize.
Very nice job of covering this
I totally need to get more organised!
Gmail is awesome and powerful. I've been using Inbox for over a month now and I've grown tired of it so I've come back to gmail with my personal account.
You covered the main points pretty well on the video (create tag, color tag, filter) as well as mention the multiple inboxes lab feature. As much as I love Gmail, I have to say that the settings section is horribly ugly. What you pointed out in the video, about including colors in the label section, is accurate and shows that Gmail settings needs a drastic change in design - or should I say "material design".
Also, I personally thought it was a keen idea to show some messages from the community in the video. Kudos on that!!
Last point, and totally unrelated, I saw in your inbox my activity on Patreon :-)
I had some bank issues and had to readjust the pledge. Luckily everything is working just fine now. Happy to be supporting you!
Excellent video. It helped me to organise and declutter my inbox.Keep the good work
Great job on this!
Thank you so much this helped a lot!!!! You saved my life
Great Video. Just stumbled onto your channel looking to organize my email better. Love your articulation and pace.
I can easily understand his instructions and move forward.
very useful content Steve!.
Good info, I'd really been struggling to organise my gmail & make it productive.
For a complicated subject I never knew I needed, you made it so Cl ear. ..not sure how it'll work on the iPad but we'll see. Thank you!
Thank you very well explained!
Dotto... you ROCK!! Keep doing what you do so well!!
The very same! Watching this video brought back some good memories of you, sir!!
You made me smile, (Man, you could look at a newer video, we have come a long way)
Your video came up as a top hit to a Google search. So, this was on target. Yes, you have. I remember your early shows with the Knowledge Network... you were a pioneer then and continue to be. Rest assured... I will check out more!
Very nice. I just ran into your channel this afternoon. Very informative and well spoken. Great job, can't wait to filter through some of your other posts. Thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial
Very informative, Steve, thank-you. I am having a heck-of-a-time with my gmail inbox and have found your video to be very useful. I wouldn't want to get sentimental but I remember you on your show "Dotto's Data Cafe" years ago- our computer teacher used to use the occasional little clip to illustrate something for us. I have to say, you've aged quite well for a computer guy- I wish I had your hairline...LOL. It's nice to see you're still going strong, doing what you love to do. Keep up the good work.
+Projectix J It is great to hear from those who saw us way back in the beginning!
Thanks for taking the time to say hey!
Thanks . It was helpful
thanks. labels and filters are a great idea. can emails arrive in different tabs instead of all arriving in the same inbox? for example not just Primary, Social, Forums etc but tabs denoting geneological projects i belong to such Fatherline, Transcription, Motherline, Cen, Reg etc. can tabs be created so that i could see at a glance that say 5 Fatherline, 2 Transcription, 8 Motherline, 3 Cen and 6 Reg related emails arrived today?
Steve: I set my labels with a-z and have sub labels under most of the a-z. What I do to keep the most important label on the top is i give it number 1 then the name for example I would have 1CALENDAR and this would be on the top and I would not need to scroll for it.
You could put 1-9 numbers and categorize by importance. Very customary. I do agree about allowing us to color in the labels tab in settings. Maybe an additional tab category in settings should be COLOR and in this page you could create a color and categorize it or associate it by type of label, etc.
Thank you 🙏
Thanks Steve....funny how this worked out, as I moved all my different emails to gmail yesterday... perfect timing for me..:) Happy New Year, by the way..
Perfect! Subscribed!
Thank you, V helpful.
thanks
I always wondered what happened to you. I used to watch DottoTech when I was younger and had cable. Great to see the Tech continues! ~Scott, Guelph, ON
Nice Tech Analysis met
Good Job! Thanks
Very clear and helpful video! Is there a way to create labels and have recurring emails forward to that 'folder' and not have them show up in the inbox, but still have access to those emails when you'd like to catch up on those updates?
Thanks for the information Do you know how to set up an easy way to send group emails that are set up on gmail on a pc using a iphone or ipad it dosnt seem to work to easy ???????????
Mr. Dotto,
I would really appreciate it if you were to create more videos about Android-specific apps. Thanks very much for the addictive content.

Hi Steve! Just found you and subscribed. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us by your super presentations. I've already learned a lot from you--including utilizing "tasks" in my Gmail calendar. You're awesome!
Good stuff
Steve, impressed with the way you record the video with the background. Can you do a video on this process and what equipment you use? Thank you!
Hi Steve

Great video! Can you please do top chrome extensions for productivity? That would be epic and it would go great with this.
Excellent. Diane Darling and I were just talking about the G-mail management challenge when minutes later I discovered your video. It was a hoot to find out afterwards that you and she have worked together.
Glynis Gordon Diane is my main advisor on all things Google+! Glad you found me!

very useful
Thanks Steve,
Question. When you reply to an email which email address does it come from
Ed
really fantastic i like
Very helpful video thanks Steve I have been a fan of yours since your TV show days very awesome content love your videos
Great video!!! Has you consider nested labels??
More organisation than I need, but if you have a system that it works for, go for it!
I select an email and wish to move it via the drop down folder to place it under a label, however the drop down folder has every file imaginable and I have to scroll to much. How do I remove/hide the sub folders so only the main folders show? I have tried nesting them under main folders but they all still show up, can I archive them? Thanks
Hi Dotto Tech. Great video by the way. I am wondering if you know of a way to only view some tagged emails in their tag folder and exclude them from being viewed in the inbox? I have many emails coming into my account that I don't often need to read but they are still important so I would like them to sit in a folder out of the way until I need to view them. Do you know of a way to do this?
Steve, this was a very helpful video. One Question - If you get emails from multiple addresses in an organization and you want to filter all those emails into one Label, is it possible to have multiple addresses in the from box, if so how? I tried a comma between email addresses and that did not work, can this be done, or do I have to set up a separate filter for each senders email address. Thanks, Steve Munier
You spelled "Organising" wrong...only kidding. Great video, I really needed it.
Thanks,
Brian
Can you apply multilple filters, as in multiple key words to be searched in the emails or subjects? If so, how can you do it?
Looks like lots of options in gmail but incredibly difficult for for those of us that are of the older generation and not computer savvy. My yahoo is simple like my older lifestyle, create folder ,name it ,tap move as I read it,done. Gmail looks useful for people who have multiple business programs. But must us older folks like things simple gmail is anything but. Thanks for the ear for me to bend.
What is ur email to sign up for newsletters?
good video
thank you for the tutorial! how did you import your other email accounts? I have tried to do it on my own, but gmail has filtered all the messages, and I honestly can not find them. Any idea how to solve it? thx!
Thank you for the video. Question, I am an independent contractor most of my income comes from Company A, they are a google office, if I forward my other emails there, they can see them if they wanted to, right? Is it better if I forward Company A emails to my personal business gmail account? will it screw up functionality like google docs and sheets that I share with them? Thoughts?
It should make no difference, you will still be accessing those resources via your Google Drive account, it does not matter which email account you use. But you will have to also sign into your Google Account.
i hope you only blur only your gmail account not all, I'm studying how to handle Gmail and thank you very much for this!, very helpful.
Great tutorial. I notice the option SHOW IN IMAP. Should this be checked and what does it mean?
Also, I have about 6500 emails (spam) in my promotions box. Is there any easy way to delete these all rather than just 50 at a time? Thanks in advance, Scott
Terrific video and it covered exactly what was needed! You rock! And, thanks for the fun plug! If you're ever in Dallas, you can consider yourself welcome and can "come over to Korky's" anytime!
Steve,
Thanks for this great video about gmail features, I am trying to get control of my email situation. I have over the years some how accumulated an ISP email addresses x2, a gmail address, iCloud/.mac/.me addresses x2 (one an alias), and my corporate exchange email address. I want to streamline this mess and I am thinking that gmail is probably the best option for bringing them all together into one mailbox with the labels function. What do you think?
***** Sounds very similar to my setup, so I think you are in good shape moving in that direction
Thanks for the great video, Steve!
If we make a filter using the "contains" option, can this be only one keyword per filter or can you have multiple words? For example, if I'm trying to create a filter for Sports related emails, could I have one filter setup containing the keywords Basketball, Football, Soccer etc, to be grouped under a Sports label? Or would each keyword need its own filter?
Thank you!
Thanks!
Forgot to ask in my previous question, would these keywords be searched by gmail in the body of the email itself, or only the email subject lines?
Thanks again!!!
Is there a setting to delete an incoming message from my inbox but keep it in the label.
Hi Steve. Great information. Do you also have a video telling about how you change the vertikal
distance between the labels, and how you get a wider column for the labels, so you can see the entire label?
+Mariann Juul Sorry, not I have no idea how to go about that,
Try the google help foum
productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/drive
Thanks anyway. I got a tip elsewhere: install the Chrome "Gmail label column resizer" and restart Chrome. And suddenly everything lookes better!
I am trying to get the older labels on my pc not to show on my Iphone. I hid the labels I don't want to see on my iphone (older conversations) but they still show up on my phone under mailboxes. So there are close to 100 I don't care about at this time. I can not get it to disappear or condense to one line instead of all the nested labels on the phone. The phone is not looking like the gmail set up. Is this a phone or gmail issue. Is there a way to archive all these labels on my pc in a business file ?
Hello Steve, how do I set up Folders in Gmail?
Is there a way to add a filter to a list of email addresses or does it require a filter per email address? It does not seem to like a comma separating email in the From box. I am trying to say, for all emails from theses email address, apply this filter (as a side note, it would be outstanding if Gmail had a feature that learned from this and automatically added or prompt to add a label based on a label being applied- something like, if you add a label, a prompt would appear that said, "I see you added a label to this email, would you like to automatically add this for all emails from this person". Wishful thinking.)
How can I send emails with a certain filter straight to a corresponding Label box without them appearing in my inbox?
I'd like my gmail in a folder on my desktop. Do you have a tutorial for that?
Is there a way to re-arrange your Label?
Can I change those already named labels of promotion, social, etc. to a unique name I want? If so, how?
I’m sitting here in Gmail thinking ‘how the heck do I start organizing this for a more productive New Year’ and I head straight over to you Steve, because I knew you’d have the perfect demo of it. Definitely useful, thanks!
