Evgenia Obraztsova was a guest on the Russian TV show "Sati: Not Boring Classics" that aired in September 2014. This particular episode focused on the character of Violetta/Marguerite, who appears in both the opera La Traviata and Neumeier's ballet Lady of the Camelias (as well as Ashton's ballet Marguerite and Armand). This character originated in Alexander Dumas's novel Lady of the Camellias; it is based on a real-life 19th century courtesan named Alphonsine Plessis, later known as Marie du Plessis, who enchanted many of her contemporaries including Liszt and Dumas himself. In these excerpts Genia is shown answering questions about her thoughts on the character and her work in Neumeier's ballet.

Not only talented and radiant, but also profound and articulate. What's not to love about Evgenia?

Thank you so much for translating this! I really appreciate hearing her thoughts on this ballet and how she approached the character, and I appreciate that there was a forum for her to share.

Thank you for posting this. Although lucky enough not to need subtitles, when I switched them on I was stunned by how accurate, articulate and correctly timed they are - a masterpiece in themselves.

Thank you so much! It was truly a labor of love. But Genia's thoughts deserve to reach a wider audience.

La Traviata was my first opera - I love it! :) Wow, ObraztsovaUnofficial, you made the subs yourself? That's tough work!

***** I think it was my second opera, Rigoletto was my first. And yes, I made them myself :) It took quite a while, but I was glad to be able to share Genia's thoughts with many more fans.
