    Jack,
I just bought the Strat version of this guitar. I love it. I did put wedges behind the block on the tremolo. Virtually making the tremolo fixed. I hate trems, I wish the strat came in a hardtail.
I am probably going to get the KGD Tele. Unsure which color. I am more a a tele guy. But, I do like my strat with the trem blocked off.
You said the guitar smell strange. Like my Strat, you are probably smelling "shoe polish". There is a relicing trick/method on bare wood using shoe polish. I think that's what they did. I wiped my KGD Strat down with a micro-cloth with water and Dawn Dish soup on it. That seemed to get rid of most of the shoe polish smell.
By the way, my Strat came in at 6.7lbs. Which I think is a good weight.
    Thank you for the review.
    Larry

I purchased this same guitar in butterscotch a few months ago. I did a full setup on it, changed hardware to road worn to match the body and put locking tuners on it so I’m all in for about $300. I absolutely love it now. It sounds great out of the box, but maybe at a later date will change out the neck pickup. Enjoy it as I agree it’s worth the price!

That style Chinese factory fret is cut, the ends are rounded first then they're glued in. Sight down the neck you'll see the fret ends make a wavy line compared to the edge of the fingerboard.
On my Chinese guitars here with rosewood boards the frets are wheel buffed. The rosewood is loaded with buffing compound. Maple boards don't have polished frets.
Wish these factories could get ahold of some alder, I've got all the mahogany bodies I want. The ash Firefly sources is super heavy, sometimes tempted anyway.

That makes perfect sense. It is the first time I saw frets like this in person. It sort of blew my mind at first but it makes sense when as little time as possible is spent on each guitar. Nevertheless I am shocked with the quality of this guitar. I had some Chinese LP’s and a Chinese PRS about 15 years ago and the manufacturing process seems to have vastly improved.
These no name pickups, tuners, and bridge are all quite good also which is fascinating. The neck is killer on this thing. I don’t know how they get this to your door for $229 plus tax and everyone in between makes some profit somehow. Even if it only cost $20 to make there still isn’t much profit to share by the time it gets to your door.

I doubt Chinese guitar factory pay is recognizably fair to us and there's always the spectre of uncompensated forced/prisoner labor in China also. I would guess raw materials, parts, packing material and shipping far outstrip labor costs. I think Amazon and import/export policy is key to maintaining a sustainable margin.
Still, wish they'd find some alder...

Meanwhile literally any big company: "let me charge you $2,000 extra for me to take the guitar body strap it to my pickup truck and give it road rash" then proceed to cut costs by saving the copper wiring from wiring our pickups call it "vintage" because the output is so low wow!!! Now thats watt i call profits
