"The Light That Shines" is the 3rd opus of french melodic death metallers Fractal Gates.
Fractal Gates is a 5 man band featuring Sébastien Pierre (Enshine, Cold Insight, Ex-Inborn Suffering, Ex-Lethian Dreams) and Stéphane Peudupin (Ex-Inborn Suffering, Ex-Lethian Dreams, Ningizzia).
"The Light That Shines" emphasises on catchy tunes, stellar sci-fi sounds and melodic death metal energy. As die hard fans of sci-fi, our lyrics focus on the future, our consciousness and self awareness, the unknown, the magnificance of the universe and the probable alien encounters we might be faced with.
The album was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö of Unisound AB and features guest appearances such as Jari Lindholm (Enshine, Ex-Slumber, Ex-Atoma) and Ben Ellis (Scar Symmetry)

Happened to me too! Damn this is good, very Insomnium on the melodies at first listen.
Melodic Death Metal once was fresh and new. Over the years this genre got a more and more evil smell. Hats off to Fractal Gates! You created something great and vivid!

My only complaint about this album is that I'm always sad when the last song finishes. Luckily, I can just replay it!

I check out a lot of Melo-death bands and a lot of them don't live up to the specific sounds I enjoy, which are Omnium Gatherum, Solution .45, Insomnium, Dark Tranquility. Then I landed on this one. Holy shit dudes and dudettes. These guys got it right.

For me it´s a masterpiece. Shame on my head that I missed the first 2 longplayers. Melodies, heavy, dark and some melancholy. One of my Melo-Death faves with some influences from Gothic-Death...although the themes has huge differences. Ordered all 3 longplayers from Fractal Gates right now.

@@tingle3444 You are right! Omnium Gatherum is almost the same band as Insomnium except the vocalist, so definitely sounds similar... However, special thanks to you for introducing me to Countless skies, I have listened to couple of their tracks and its clicking pretty well

countless skies Rhythm is good but their solos are weak.. not easy to be as skillful as Markus Vanhalla (Lead guitarist Imsonium & Omnium Gatherum)
The members of this band also worked on Enshine and Cold Insight. Another similar sounding band would be Atomica.

IMO Shylmagoghnar's Transience is better than The Light that Shines... Its melodies area bit complex and profound. Still, Fractal Gates is a hell of a great band!!
