  • Air Content: Volumetric Method
    ACI Technician Workbook CP-1
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    CALIBRATED CUPS
    1 Calibrated Cup = 1 Percent Air
    A calibrated cup is used when the water level falls below the neck on the air meter while running the test. If this happens, either the concrete contains a significant amount of air, or your apparatus has leaked during the test.
    Add calibrated cups of water to bring the water level up into the neck so its level can be measured. Record the number of cups added, and add to the final air content at the end.
    Example: 9% air reading + 2 calibrated cups added during the test = Final reading of 11% air entrainment.
    Air Entrainment: Air has been intentionally added to the mix (typically readings above 3%)
    Air Entrapment: Naturally occurring air in the concrete mix (typically from 1 to 3%)

      @JSSTyger 4 роки тому +4

      @@vashman01In my opinion, lightweight concrete is typically reserved for interior decks, for which there should be no need for air content testing. Even if there is, you can just adjust the reading maybe 0.5% (up) after doing the pressure method.

    • @geofreak75
      @geofreak75 2 роки тому +2

      @@JSSTyger Lightweight concrete is sometimes used on bridge decks, which are exposed to the elements, so that would be one of the rare situations to use it in. Otherwise, I agree with you. But also whenever strength samples are cast, slump, air, and temperature are typically required.

    This is the worst test, first this method is for light weight concrete and LW is using rarely, 2nd the LW is mostly for internal slabs on metal deck and suppose to be Non air enterained, no need for test. So you may need this once in your career or may be yoy never need it. Anyway you did great job, thanks.

    And don't forget if you find yourself with a small amount of alcohol in your vehicle and not enough you can go to the old method of testing using the role of meter where you used to use three lifts fill it up with water and no alcohol to perform your tests and then after you're done if you have any suds you can use the 1% cap to pour alcohol in there to get rid of the suds but keep count .

    • @ivoryboxingnation3563
      @ivoryboxingnation3563 4 роки тому +6

      Raghunandan Reddy C
      He is reading the graduated cylinder how the water mixed with alcohol decrease ...from initial reading to final reading...after shaking the water gets inside the concrete pore which is filed by air...so it makes decrease the water level and thus the reading...He did not zoom it that’s why you could not see the graduation

    • @JSSTyger
      @JSSTyger 4 роки тому +8

      The air starts out entrapped within the concrete. After the shaking and rolling procedures, the air escapes through the water in bubbles. The loss in volume of air results in the water level dropping. The "0" mark on the graduated cylinder corresponds to 0% air content (air content is calculated as a percentage of the volume of concrete). Hypothetically, if there was no air in the concrete, the water level would not drop after the shaking and rolling procedures. The "stabilization" just means you have to wait for the water level to settle. If it doesn't eventually settle, it usually means that there is a leak.

      It's so they can keep making thousands off us every 5 years! I have done level 1 4 times and about to do my 5th. There is only so much that you can change on the test methods without changing the equipment altogether. Level 1 is now over $800 if you're not a member of ACI or other sponsor group. The Transportation Construction Inspector certification was like $1500 as a member. Hell, the books alone are $400!
