NOTE 1. Due to complications stemming from our other businesses, we had to adjust datalink terms. In this case, Secure Modem Datalink (SMDL). This is all I will say on the matter. NOTE 2. As always, these videos provide a preview of an upcoming feature to assist you in understanding a new feature. Later, it is quite possible that the feature will change, and the feature functionality has changed. As much as I’d like to, I lack the time re-record these videos. NOTE 3. The next AH-64D datalink video will instruct how to transmit and receive datalink text messages, tactical reports, and points.
Nice job. How about... A "Mark 1 Eyeball" Data Link feature. 1. Look at something on the ground (Group or just any old spot) 2. ID that group/point: Cockpit Visual Recon seems to have the math for this UI 3. Send an Event with that group ID or x,y,z ( or just x,y - I can get the ground MSL value) This would be really handy and apply to ALL platforms from an ME-109, F-18, Apache - everything. I've made this suggestion on the forums and the survey recently. No response(s). Thank you
NOTE 1: what complications? what other businesses? how or why is secure modem data link adjusted? if that's all you'll say on the matter you've really not said much at all I'm afraid I have absolutely zero idea of what your trying to say
Considering they do work for US Defence, I'd say it's a case of "we called it the actual name/used actual terms for the operating systems, and they weren't happy with that".
Love it! And love the fact that we can finally see the FCR! ❤ As far as naming of things and conflict with other businesses, I think most of us love the fact that we have something "as close to" real life as possible, high fidelity and advanced mechanics but also understand that due to the nature of these things and the fact that many of the modules are still in use we can't have everything and everything can't be 100% accurate. Keep doing the amazing job you guys are doing and deliver us an amazing combat flight sim!
Hey Wags, could you guys look into maybe adding these tutorials to your in-game tutorial menu? Maybe just have a window that pops up and streams from UA-cam, so it doesn't have to be part of the download package of the actual game. Love what ya'll are doing.
Wags, don't worry about not having enough time to make update videos. The community will take up to itself to make more detailed step by step tutorials, and they will be updated it with time. It is a complex feature, lots of radio presets and settings, pretty hard to grasp at first glance, but as with everything Apache, it will be easier to understand once we have our hands on it.
Wags, can you confirm all these nice datalink features (also Hornet, Viper) will end up accessible via data cartridge simulation too? Its a bit sad that players can't really enjoy these implementations on persistent MP- servers so far, because they have to either live with inflexible settings made in the mission editor or fiddle around in config pages.
DAS doesn’t really compare to a datalink. Datalink is friendly units sharing location and targeting info, which F-35 absolutely does, but DAS is a (group of) sensor. DAS is also incredibly powerful and we absolutely don’t know what it can really do, but a fairly reasonable guess is it’s an IRST but works in 360 degrees and detects enemy aircraft at a reduced range compared to the radar, but without the radar being turned on and giving the F-35’s presence away.
All well and good, but how many people are really going to use or benefit from this? The fact is most likely 90% of the users play alone. Even on line most people play alone. Not sure this is the most bang for the buck.
You should try the other mp servers... the people using datalink are usually the once flying on their squadron servers or in small groups in a more realistic way. You will notice with time, that DCS product developers typically don't care about "bang for the bucks" or "balanced gameplay"... they do care about accurate recreation of combat aircraft in the confines of available public data. So the AH-64D gets the Longbow Net datalink and we can finally request position updates and do all the fancy stuff Wags just showed...🥰

It'll be years before you see that.
Looking forward to your upcoming DL and FCR videos, Wags!

Longbow FCR in the works.. excite.
The heck with the data link. We want the FCR!
This is going to be so awesome!! These updates make me want to upgrade my Apache cockpit setup and buy some MFDs for this helo! :D

We can expect FCR in next open beta e.g 2.9version ?
No. I just wanted to show if off a bit to preempt the thousand "where is the FCR?!" questions. As can be seen, it is actively in work.
Outstanding. Will we be able to send position reports, target points and waypoint routes through the SMDL? Thanks Wags.
See Matt's pinned comment.
Ah sweet, that must’ve been posted a bit after. Good to see!

We do.
And there’s plenty of us who enjoy the Apache in milsim units, when you’re running a 4 ship of AH64’s it actually does matter to us ;))
