Thank you, Dylan and Corrine, for this very informative podcast that covered the UTMB scoring system, Golden Trail Series uplifting for other manufacturer products and athletes (can't wait to see Grayson at Broken Arrow), Olympic trail running possibilities and more. Glad I got to catch this and wishing you both the best this week. You both Rock!!!
Hope your races went well!!
Thanks for addressing the UTMB scoring changes, Canyons didn't really make sense to me
Seb Krogvig's 1 hour penalty in Madeira is a pretty interesting situation to discuss. According to Aroa Sío's partner, Abel Recknold, the penalty investigation started because of a claim by 4th place Anthony Costa, who ended up 3rd. He saw Krogvig coming to an aid station from the wrong trail and brought it to the attention of the judges. Krogvig argued with the gpx/strava track that he didn't gain an advantage and ended up doing more distance because of the wrong turn he took. The rules state that you have to walk back to the point you took the wrong turn and judges had no other choice but to rule accordingly.
Are we starting to more prominently see the consequences of the professionalisation of the sport? We're talking about prize money now...
In any case shoot Abel a DM if you want more details. He told the story in a Spanish podcast a couple weeks ago.
49:57 Yeah the strategy is so fascinating.... "yep he's changing socks now" "ok he's drinking milk"
Luis Alberto commented last week he's running the Ultra and targeting the sub 8 hour mark, trying to be competitive but knowing he's not in shape to compete for a podium nowadays.
