How do the Mariners not do this trade? Yoshida is overpaid but he’s still an above average hitter and would’ve played everyday for them, in addition to being able to buy low on Casas
According to FanGraphs, Masataka Yoshida has barely been a replacement-level player, posting fWAR of 0.6 and 0.8 in his first two MLB seasons despite his annual salary of $18 million. Steamer projects Yoshida with a 2025 WAR of 1.2, Triston Casas with a WAR of 2.4 and Luis Castillo with a WAR of 2.8.
@@FrodohTBaggins Why at 18 mil a year can't Yoshida just bust his ass and learn how to become a better defensive player? Is he really THAT bad? It didn't go through, but how do you think Tristan Casas is feeling right now? Finding out your team is shopping you is tough. My guess is that they eventually trade him. They probably have too many lefthanded hitters in the line-up.
Corbin the reason why Breslow was entertaining the potential deal was to unload Masa. You posted a video about two weeks ago talking about the potential deal for Castillo. At that point walker was still a free agent so I think breslows plan was to acquire Castillo and sign walker for first.
I think it’s because he refused an extension and then took his sweet ass time coming back from his injury. Remember the timeframe was supposed to be after the All-Star break and how much longer it took from that point on they offered him the extension just around the All-Star break. Makes total sense.
Do you think it’s crazy to think that Verlander or Scherzer would make for terrific bullpen depth or even a a really good 5 starter or long reliever if the price is right??
Agree, Casas is still very young. Potentially a stud for the next several years. Also, don't know if Castillo fits this pitching staff. I don't think he has had Tommy John surgery
Teoscar signed with the Dodgers for 3 years/$66M. Feels like the Sox could have made a comparable offer that would have been worth at least a couple million more considering the 14% CA state tax. I think we should have pulled the trigger on this offer! Only caveat is I wouldn’t want it to get in the way of Roman Anthony playing outfield in 2025.
Keep Casas next off-season dont pay Vlady, keep young developing Casas for less money and possibly better stats. Yes Casas can match Vlady statistics. Figure Masa out some other way!!
I really think, and I could be wrong because I love the guy, but a lot of Devers issues are on the throw. I really believe he could play first, and be good. ps I really think the Sox viewed that trade as a way to get off of Yoshida, which has a TON of value to the Sox.
Sure he might be solid, but how long does it take for him to get solid? That is my point. There are 2 months until the spring, 4 until the 2025 season. Raffy has been playing 3rd since he was 16 and is still figuring it out.
Roster Resource currently lists Luke Raley as the Seattle first baseman. The lines for Raley and Triston Casas over the past two seasons: LR 861 PA, .246/.326/.476/.802. 127 OPS+, 6.0 bWAR TC 745 PA, .256/.357/.480/.838, 125 OPS+, 2.8 bWAR
I do not think Tristan Casas will not be here all 4 years. The reason Scott Boras is his agent and will take him to free agency. But, I would hold onto him until he is about 2 years out. We do not know the medicals. If there is something about his bones. I do not like the trade either. I want to hold onto Casas. I saw some posts from Seattle that said for Castillo it would take both Casas and Abreu. I think I would rather have Crawford than Castillo. Look at the trades that have been made. They have not all worked out but they all made a lot of sense. Until Craig does something stupid, you have to give him the benefit of doubt.
Totally reasonable. He says he wasn't very interested in the extension offers the Sox presented. I suspect they're getting the sense that he will be a tough extension. In that case, I think your plan is spot on. Certainly don't trade him now after a "down" season.
@@PieterVanderWerf-p6vI disagree, because I wouldn’t be surprised if the extension was a cheap one with team options. Maybe 60 or 70 million through early 30’s. He seems like a dude who would love to be a redsox for life, his youth and ceiling are of great value.
@@PieterVanderWerf-p6v He hasn’t said anything that i’m aware of, he just seems like a guy with his personality that I could see he a sox for lifer. I just really want him to stay healthy.
Don’t understand the red sox willingness to trade Casas or the reported willingness to. Is it true ? Remember there was a lot of Trade Duran talk buzzing around which turned out to be uninformed un edified babbling ..he was untouchable and obviously for good reason… I don’t think anybody is taking on YOSHIDA😊 and his perfect running technique anytime soon.
Honestly I think there is more legitimate smoke to this than Duran, at least this offseason. Last offseason that was the big story that just never ended up happening
@@redseatradio have not heard one word this entire winter about Duran other than his breakout season …Houck also had an All Star breakout season ..I think Tristan will breakout in 2025
I agree with you I'm not sure why they want to trade Cases especially when they don't have an obvious alternative. I guess it might be because he's a weird dude but I don't think that is a good reason to trade. Keep Cases.
Certainly agree that Castillo is being overvalued with the steady decline and scary home/away splits… just a thought on Casas’ value that may be worth considering-is there a chance he’s a bad clubhouse guy, and that’s part of the reason the Sox are more willing to let him go? I remember there being reports on him frustrating teammates last year, and I’m curious if that’s part of the reason Breslow doesn’t value him quite as much as his numbers would suggest. Either way, it seems as if Yoshida in the DH role is what’s keeping Boston from signing Teoscar at this point, so it appears the Sox need to find someone to take him before Teoscar signs elsewhere.
Corbin I feel stuck here with the Red Sox grabbing another bat. We’re going to have 3 quality prospects coming up with no where to play. Right now Cedena looks to be the odd man out with those 3 . Now adding another power bat which is sorely needed. I’m wondering if collectively if it’s best to let the kids play? It also seems like the Sox are reluctant to give up a comp pick to attain the power bat. What are your thoughts?
Wouldn't want any pitcher from Seattle pitching in Boston I don't think it would work as far as trading Casas I'm thinking it's pretty much BS at least I'm hoping it is doesn't make any sense to me especially at this time
Yoshida needs to be moved, Casas is injury prone. I am okay moving both of those pieces considering Anthony, Mayer and Campbell are knocking on the door. May not have been good to move them for just Castillo but I can see both of them being moved in the future and I am okay with that.
Love the content!❤ I also love Tristan Casas, as he will be a beast in 25! Walker Buehler is a much better get than Castillo. Brayan Bello will be the game’s best #5 starter at the end… Crochett, Buehler, Houck, Giolito and Bello will get us to the ALCS at least.🎉🎉 Shoutout to Crawford, Sandoval, Whitlock, Fitts, Priester and Criswell for excellent rotation depth along the way. Well done Breslow!! I was a fan of your work ever since you first put on the ‘B’! IN BRESLOW WE TRUST, LETS GO SOX!
Breslow would have been booed out of Boston if this ridiculous trade would have been made.....Casas would have gone on to be a stud for the Mariners for years to come....
The only current trade piece or free agent I’d take instead of casas is vlady and we know that’s not happening right now. I’m in the boat that Masa HAS to go! But both of them for castillo is a wild overpay
Yoshida was there best hitter the last 2 months of the season so why they are trying to unload him just to save money they have no idea what there doing
Seattle's perspective on trade is very different. Casas is unproven and Yoshida overpaid DH. They'll want a decent prospect to make it happen. I think that's crazy but it all depends on which side you are on.
I think Seattle maybe would have done this trade if was Abreu and Yoshida maybe you think about that I wonder if the Sox actually offered another package I would be curious but it sounds like Seattle definitely wants casas
The trades you don’t make are often the best ones! Tristan should be a middle of the order bat to go with Devers, Roman Anthony and Campbell for the next 6-7 years.
Dude a possibility was the Red Sox really wanting to rid themselves of Yoshida…. He’s locking up a very important OF/DH spot (for Roman Anthony or Teoscar who’s now gone) with little upside and for lots of $$$. We’d be able to sign a true DH or power righty or have mobility as a roster with him traded. I think that’s the key here but just me thinking
Casas will be much more han just 40 HR potential. A conservative 600 AB season could be 90 R, 31 HR, 95 RBI, .280 AVG, and solid defense. Trading Casas in general is unnecessary. Find a trade partner that needs a SS/OF and offer Mayer, Abreu, and Crawford. I'd do that for Jared Jones, Bryan Woo, anyone like them.
I would never give them Casas for Castillo. I don't like the age gap between the two nor do I feel like making our offense weaker. You would need a much younger pitcher back in the deal to even consider it and even then its not a good idea. It would probably create a problem at first base. I think redsox management is dumb to consider even trading him. Thanks Corbin ! Joe
I don’t fully agree with them trying to trade Casas and am glad they didn’t. They probably felt like they had internal options for first in Raffy which I get, because there aren’t internal options for a true #2. Hopefully Houck can develop into it, but Bello and Crawford are not #2 options.
I just saw reports that 3x batting champion Luis Arraez is on the trade block... and of course, the damn Yankees are linked to it...I don't understand why the red Sox are not in the mix... why is it always the Yankees ...we have a way better farm system than the Yankees... why can't Boston at least make the call and find out...
Because he doesn’t make any sense. He is terrible defensively, is a slap hitter, and is aging. All from the left hand side. The contact is great, but it’s not what the Sox need right now.
Not so sure. A left-handed infielder with severe splits on a team that is too left-handed and probably looking to bring up two infield prospects (Campbell and Mayer) this year and other moderately high-ceiling young players (Grissom, Hamilton) already on payroll. Teoscar makes a lot more sense to me for these reasons.
im not exactly sure why everyone loves a baseball player that hasnt done anything in the league yet. he has been in the bigs for a while now and there is always a reason why he cant just break out
Cora & front office have wanted to rid themselves of Casas since he sandbagged them and threw them under bus during his injury We have heard multiple times from Multiple reporters that Sox were looking to trade Casas and were turning over all stoned in their quest for pitching And this proposed trade was in winter meetings when Goldy Nate Lowe Josh Naylor we’re still available and with their former teams Castillo would have been a legit#2 after Crochet and getting rid of Yoshida contract and taking on Castillo contract would only cost Sox 17M over 3 years I think most in Sox organization don’t believe in Casas
we literally have no replacement for casas if we trade him. hes the only true first baseman we have. what are we gonna do wait like 5 years for blaze jordan? nah im all set. but i will say this. he does need to be healthy next year no excuses. hes not a rookie anymore. hes needs to ge healthy and consistent if we wanna go far. he needs to step up
Do you keep track of and speak on when players are called up from the Minor Leagues? I’m following the career of Salem Red Sox player Karim Ayubi and am looking for a podcast that, amongst all other news, would announce if and when he’s put on the official Red Sox roster
It's been quiet on the trade & free agent front for the last 7-10 days. Could it be reporters putting something out there when nothing's going on? Guess you gotta publish the sports page daily.
Why did he miss so many games this past season maybe they think he milked it out he should’ve been playing sooner. He is very quirky and they didn’t like that with Manny Ramirez. It makes you think they don’t like him personally
That Trade was not bad. We have to be realistic. Red Sox need right hand bat. Casas and Yoshida will open the opportunity to get right hand bat. The problem here is two left hand bat have to go. Duran, Abreu, Casas, Yoshida, Devers. Two have to go. Plus Anthony and Mayer are Left hand. How you can balances the line up. How you can add having this team. We have to be realistic.
That does undermine faith in the front office. No surprise there. The most valuable pieces were all here before Breslow. That is waht was used to get Crochet. Having that jerk Chapman and all the Tommy John what ifs in the bullpen is also irritating.
The most logical answer? Like Alex said. With conviction. There was no trade in any form that involved Casas for Castillo. Reporters stretching the truth to stay relevant? Never. Lol
Not a horrible trade. Actually, makes sense on a lot of areas. Frees up roster spots for a right hander power bat far more easily. There are still plenty of first basement on the market. Also, frees up payroll to spend in better places, including a right hander power bat. It's would've brought in an arm that may have been questionable, but a greater need that is worth the risk. And it would've been for someone clogging the lineup and someone with questionable durability. Can't see how this doesn't make sense. The lack of seeing the forest through the trees is why I typically skip trade theory videos on UA-cam.
You would rather believe that Breslow is ignorant or has a “break in logic” than to assume there is a legit reason (probably clubhouse related). I know you’re an ardent defender of his quirky actions, but how about assume it’s just because he’s not gelling with the team. The nail-painting and sunbathing alone isn’t it, but when you combine it with his handling of the rib injury and his blatant lies to the media about his recovery, this just isn’t a guy the team can trust. Instead of assuming Breslow is stupid, perhaps consider he knows a lot more than you and has likely spoken to multiple players who privately said, “Please get this guy out of here.”
Shows you how little value Masa and Casas have . Nobody wants Masa and Casas is a risk with his injury history. That and Breslow and the Red Sox have a recent history of not understanding the market
Triston Casas should remain in Boston. I’m glad that this trade didn’t happen

Yeah obviously that’s the reason you attach masa there but it would have still been a really dumb move
Imagine if this trade went through and Craig didnt acquire Crochet..
I think it’s because he refused an extension and then took his sweet ass time coming back from his injury. Remember the timeframe was supposed to be after the All-Star break and how much longer it took from that point on they offered him the extension just around the All-Star break. Makes total sense.
Just because someone looking to get his name noticed brings up a big name in a possible trade doesn't mean there is any legitimacy to it.
They will kill Triston's spirit if they don't remove his name from these trade negotiations. He can be the right side cornerstone of this franchise.
@ 😂😂❤️
Casas is a sturdy hitter and a fairly fluid defensive player which makes me think he's an above average value 1st baseman
Abeau could be traded to open up a spot for Campbell or Anthony. Hamilton could have value to open up an infield spot. There are moves to be made.
It didn’t happen because Seattle didn’t wanna take on the 3 years of masa contract . Only reason Sox didn’t pull the trigger .
Correct
Roster Resource currently lists Luke Raley as the Seattle first baseman. The lines for Raley and Triston Casas over the past two seasons:
LR 861 PA, .246/.326/.476/.802. 127 OPS+, 6.0 bWAR
TC 745 PA, .256/.357/.480/.838, 125 OPS+, 2.8 bWAR
I've listened to a few of the Seattle Pod casts and they are all like "Boston needs to take the full contract give up Casas and two top ten prospects"
Of course whatever benefits only them 😂
I do not think Tristan Casas will not be here all 4 years.
@@travis6694 I hope you're right. What has he done/said that says he wants to be a Sox for life? I haven't been tuning into all this stuff.
@@PieterVanderWerf-p6v He hasn’t said anything that i’m aware of, he just seems like a guy with his personality that I could see he a sox for lifer. I just really want him to stay healthy.
@@PieterVanderWerf-p6v Hopefully by then they will have a replacement in AAA.
@@redseatradio have not heard one word this entire winter about Duran other than his breakout season …Houck also had an All Star breakout season ..I think Tristan will breakout in 2025
True feels like a pattern is emerging
I agree with you I'm not sure why they want to trade Cases especially when they don't have an obvious alternative. I guess it might be because he's a weird dude but I don't think that is a good reason to trade. Keep Cases.
Burnes heads to Arizona. Makes sense. He has a home there. 6 years , 210 million. Diamondback fans are happy today.
I honestly like moving Casas and/or Yoshida because I would sign Bregman for third and move Devers to DH and like Alonso over Casas.
Pencil in Casas for 35+HR this year and Yoshida for 20+HR and World Series MVP 😉🫀⚾️
Wouldn't want any pitcher from Seattle pitching in Boston I don't think it would work as far as trading Casas I'm thinking it's pretty much BS at least I'm hoping it is doesn't make any sense to me especially at this time
The only was if trade Casas is for Pirates starter.
Yoshida needs to be moved, Casas is injury prone. I am okay moving both of those pieces considering Anthony, Mayer and Campbell are knocking on the door.
May not have been good to move them for just Castillo but I can see both of them being moved in the future and I am okay with that.
Casas is single digit percentile in speed at 24 years old. Same with range. Unless he's Big Papi 2.0, that's really bad.
Love the content!❤ I also love Tristan Casas, as he will be a beast in 25! Walker Buehler is a much better get than Castillo. Brayan Bello will be the game’s best #5 starter at the end… Crochett, Buehler, Houck, Giolito and Bello will get us to the ALCS at least.🎉🎉
Shoutout to Crawford, Sandoval, Whitlock, Fitts, Priester and Criswell for excellent rotation depth along the way. Well done Breslow!! I was a fan of your work ever since you first put on the ‘B’! IN BRESLOW WE TRUST, LETS GO SOX!
Let's go Tristan!!! Keep him damn it he gonna have a 30+hr 100+rbi season and then he will make it threw all doubt!!
Biggest reason this trade would've been bad is they have no replacement for Casas at first base. $0.02.
Yoshida was there best hitter the last 2 months of the season so why they are trying to unload him just to save money they have no idea what there doing
thank god
Nice shirt. And thank goodness there was a grown up in the room.
thanks!
I think this trade had more to do with trying to offload Yoshida than it did Casas
Thank god we didn’t, but I really like Yoshida at DH if we sign a Bergman to play 2B then our lineup will be stacked.
Joe
Yeah I would agree if they do trade him it needs to be for someone younger
I don’t fully agree with them trying to trade Casas and am glad they didn’t. They probably felt like they had internal options for first in Raffy which I get, because there aren’t internal options for a true #2. Hopefully Houck can develop into it, but Bello and Crawford are not #2 options.
I think it is a Christmas miracle that this trade didn't happen!
Absolutely
I just saw reports that 3x batting champion Luis Arraez is on the trade block... and of course, the damn Yankees are linked to it...I don't understand why the red Sox are not in the mix... why is it always the Yankees ...we have a way better farm system than the Yankees... why can't Boston at least make the call and find out...
@@ghostlover951 he would be perfect for the Sox
Because he doesn’t make any sense. He is terrible defensively, is a slap hitter, and is aging. All from the left hand side. The contact is great, but it’s not what the Sox need right now.
Not so sure. A left-handed infielder with severe splits on a team that is too left-handed and probably looking to bring up two infield prospects (Campbell and Mayer) this year and other moderately high-ceiling young players (Grissom, Hamilton) already on payroll. Teoscar makes a lot more sense to me for these reasons.
Teoscar goes back to L.A. with a 3 year deal. Another one off the table !!!!!!
Why would you want Castillo? We didn’t keep Pivetta. He’s a bust. I wouldn’t trade costs at all unless it’s for one of the top two pitchers.
We don't need Casas ship him out of here.
im not exactly sure why everyone loves a baseball player that hasnt done anything in the league yet. he has been in the bigs for a while now and there is always a reason why he cant just break out
I wouldn't read too much into media reports. I'm sure these negotiations kick around lots of potential moves. Fact is that the Red Sox didn't do it.
I have never wanted to trade Casas. Mark my words he is going to have a breakout year in 2025 and it would have been a trade they regretted
I mean….. we could have then signed the polar bear.. 🐻❄️ I think we make a real push for Bregman though
You said a mouthful bro. WHY do they not value our man Casas?? Castillo is clearly trending down. SMH
Can Casas hit in cold weather? We’re going to find out.
They are that desperate to dump Yoshida without DFA'ing him
Cora & front office have wanted to rid themselves of Casas since he sandbagged them and threw them under bus during his injury
We have heard multiple times from
Multiple reporters that Sox were looking to trade Casas and were turning over all stoned in their quest for pitching
And this proposed trade was in winter meetings when Goldy Nate Lowe Josh Naylor we’re still available and with their former teams
Castillo would have been a legit#2 after Crochet and getting rid of Yoshida contract and taking on Castillo contract would only cost Sox 17M over 3 years
I think most in Sox organization don’t believe in Casas
we literally have no replacement for casas if we trade him. hes the only true first baseman we have. what are we gonna do wait like 5 years for blaze jordan? nah im all set. but i will say this. he does need to be healthy next year no excuses. hes not a rookie anymore. hes needs to ge healthy and consistent if we wanna go far. he needs to step up
If the Red Sox are trading Casas it better be for Vlad with an extension or they need to have their head examine.
Do you keep track of and speak on when players are called up from the Minor Leagues? I’m following the career of Salem Red Sox player Karim Ayubi and am looking for a podcast that, amongst all other news, would announce if and when he’s put on the official Red Sox roster
Sure yeah when/if he’s added to the big league roster we will talk about it
It's been quiet on the trade & free agent front for the last 7-10 days. Could it be reporters putting something out there when nothing's going on? Guess you gotta publish the sports page daily.
Fienstein is NYY supporter. We need Casas, and i wonder what has gone on with Casas that turned them against him.
We need keep Tristan and add a power bat and we’re all set
That does undermine faith in the front office. No surprise there. The most valuable pieces were all here before Breslow. That is waht was used to get Crochet. Having that jerk Chapman and all the Tommy John what ifs in the bullpen is also irritating.
Casas gets hurt too often. The Red sox should trade him now why his value is high.
I don’t think Cora likes Casas and Yoshida.
So we are focusing on 1 of the 3 different reasons I gave for why they would trade him? Completely ignoring the others to make your point?
Shows you how little value Masa and Casas have . Nobody wants Masa and Casas is a risk with his injury history. That and Breslow and the Red Sox have a recent history of not understanding the market
