I actually remember skiing here for two seasons while I was in high school. It must have been 1989-1990. It was so convenient as I lived within a half hour of the slopes. I entered the Army and when I returned home it was already closed up. I had some good memories here, although I never got to see it’s full potential.

I drove all the way from Harrisburg to see it, because the local radio stations were saying that it was opening, FINALLY! When I got there, I was in line with several hundred other cars with skis on their roof racks.
The massive steel columns for the lifts were laying on the ground in a long row, along what was supposed to be the "longest downhill run in the state". The outer walls of the buildings were sheets of insulation. And on the roadway... several hundred cars full of people who were so pissed off, they would probably NEVER come back, because it was such a long-ass drive.
Longest downhill run in the state...
Nah. Just the longest f'ng drive. 😢

Thanks for making this video. I live within walking distance of where this was, and I learned more about it than I knew. Man, it's sad because had this been successful our town and area would probably be much different.

I remember skiing at SnowPeak in 91 and 92 (or maybe it was 92 and 93). While I would love to see it reopen, I honestly believe another ski resort company would have purchased it and developed it if it had any real potential to generate a profit.

Interesting, thank you. I never heard or knew about this one. Too bad, it had a lot of potential if the right person could have been involved

This is a backcountry dream for PA

We visited March 7th and there was still 12-18 inches of snow on the ground at the summit. The upper ~700 vertical feet is all sustained steep pitches. It really would make a great place to earn turns if you could ever get permission from the landowners.

Great video. It's really too bad. This probably would have been the best skiing in the state - or close to it. Decent vertical and a perfect exposure. Rare combination in that region, and only 2.5 hours from the DC metro area.

It really could have been something else had it ever found the right owners.

is this area skinnable or is it currently all privately owned?

Most of the mountain is privately owned. You can access the top via the adjacent Tuscarora wild area.

Great vid. 1400’ vertical would have been a huge draw. With modern snowmaking they would have been a success. Shame.

It really is a great spot. Unfortunately nobody was able to make it work.

Fortunately there many, many mountains for potential development. Unfortunately the economics do not work in 2021. Lack of customers, environmental considerations and lack of capital.

This place would be on par with Vermont mountains as far as the vertical goes.

Nope. They were removed shortly after the area closed. Not sure where they ended up.

@@averyzucco220 rumor is that the Borvig quad was relocated to Laurel Mountain when they reopened in 1999 but it only operated through 2005 and was removed prior to the 2016 reopening.

That's too bad that this area could have been a ski resort for beginners and should have remained open forever.
